I used the red to match the scarf fabric. Since the back side of the applique is not seen the stitches are not seen and if the stitches on the front end up a little bigger than I intended(getting distracted while I'm sewing ie a good part on TV...I save my hand work for watching TV...I HAVE to be DOING something while watching..LOL) they blend in better....Nana

THank you so much for your help! I used red thread and they turned out great! I am getting ready to leave for Disney so I can't post pictures. I will post pictures of my outfits when I get back! I can't wait to share some of my outfits I've been working on.

Now I need to make a few bows. princess:

I'm too excited to sleep:dance3:

thanks a bunch!!! It is pretty cute:cutie:

Did you get your fabric from reprodepot.com? I forgot about my sock monkey fabric treasure! My Mom and I were going to do sock yo yo monkeys.

No -- but now I'm going to have to go check that site out too!! I got all but the diner fabric at Christa's Quilts dot com. (Had a 10% off coupon and from the sites I visited - -her prices were the best -- also I ordered on Monday and rec'd everything today). The diner fabric I got at Hancocks. I just couldn't pass that up.

Well -- now I'm off to visit reprodepot .....

Aimeeg - great job! And your DD seems to like them :)
I was considering the disney blanket binding for that same thing, it turned out wonderfully! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Could someone tell me how you cover the bib of the overalls with material? Specifics :confused3 I'm a beginner sewer. LOL
thanks
tina

I am still curious about this...
Here is a pic from the disboutique photos - such a cute big bro and lil sis.
boys%20disney%20outfits

I would insert the pic, but they aren't my kids and I feel odd about posting it...might be silly, but whats wrong with silly ;)
Anywho, anyone know how to cover the whole bib part? I have this feeling its easier than I am thinking it is....or very very hard ;)

No time to sew today, but DS and I stenciled some t-shirts (non-disney, shhhh don't tell) Its such fun to do that with him. And he loves wearing the shirts we make together. Last night he wore one as a PJ top but we had stenciled a Lg Dump truck on the back (to big for the front, as the shirt has a pocket), well he insisted on wearing the shirt backwards, so the truck was in front. Silly boy - gotta love it.[/QUOTE]

I wonder if she cut a hole, made it a button hole to finish it off and then stitched it onto the overalls?

If you cut a hole in the fabric and just left it alone it would unravel and fray when you washed it. The only other thing would be to be able take the metal button off and put it back on. :confused3

Those Halloween overalls are really cute.

Can anyone tell me the proper way to attach a ruffle to the bottom of a dress?

I like this idea as a sewing alternative. I was thinking about glow in the dark fabric paint...for all those rides that have the black lights, DS loves it when his clothes glow! Actually I do to :thumbsup2 .

Hey has anyone used these for a little iron-on bling?

I am thinking it might be fun!

I have never used that brand, but have purchased some from Hobby Lobby. They go up to $9.99 but sometimes are 50% off and other times, I just use a coupon. One shirt I did for my daughter has been washed many, many times and (oops) even dried a couple of times. And it still looks great!
Well, here is a picture.

I got a new sewing machine!!!!

This one will magically make me good, I'm thinkin'.

I feel like I've been using a push lawn-mower and have switched over to a ride-on! I haven't really read the instructions ("instructions are for wussies!") but I simply sewed some seam binding onto a bit of fabric, and it sews like a dream!!!!

It's another one from Walmart. The brother CS-6000i computer one. IT THREADS THE NEEDLE! :cloud9:

Happy camper in Utah tonight!

I just got the 4000 one, I love it! I thought about the 6000, but didn't really need the extras I guess. Mine has enough compared to the dinosaur I had (it felt like a dinosaur anyways). Enjoy! I have been a sewing crazy woman since last Saturday!

:rotfl: My machine does everything but buy and cut the fabric. The absolute bestest thing is the threading! I have to thread it through the tension dealie but it goes through the eye of the needle like a dream.

UHHHHH AHHHHHHH (as if watching fireworks!) you're really off and running now! A good sewing machine is the best...no more "rustic" zigzag stiches! I am making a dress for each DD and all I finished today was one bodice. Too many interuptions!

I just do a long stitch along the top of the ruffle fabric. Then you pull the thread to gather it and then attach to dress.

I actually ment . .. How do you properly attach the ruffle to the dress. I know how to fudge it but I want to know the correct way. Thanks

I've only done it twice but here's what I did.

1) Laid a piece of fabric just a but larger than needed right side down on a flat surface and then laid the overall bib, also right side down, on it.

2) Marked the fabric lightly outlining the sides and top of the bib. I then cut the fabric with at least an extra inch around those 3 edges and long enough that I knew it gave me plenty of length to cover the bib to where I wanted it.

3) With the bib right side up (RSU), I laid the cut fabric RSU on the bib centering it so the extra was evenly distributed. I then folded the fabric under along the sides to the width of the bib and pinned the fold in place but not pinned to the overalls. I did the same along the top following a stitch line of the bib that was just under the buttons.

4) I pressed the fabric carefully to set the folds and trimmed the excess fabric from the 3 folded edges. I measured also cut it to length with seam allowance added. Since I was adding a ruffle at the bottom, I didn't fold under and press but I would have without the ruffle.

5) Once the ruffle was attached and the fabric bib was pressed nicely again, I pinned it in place and stitched as close to the edge as possible around all 4 sides.

I hope that made sense. Here's a photo of the finished overalls in case it helps.

I think some people will follow a similar process but make the fabric large enough to cover the whole bib and then put button holes in the appropriate spots so they could be slipped over the overall buttons before the fabric is stitched in place. I considered doing that but and actually liked it better with the top edge of denim than if I'd covered the whole thing. I'll admit I also decided it would be simpler to not have to worry about trying to stitch alongside the buttons. ;)

Happy camper in Utah tonight!

Sure, rub it in! Threads the needle? I'd love to see how that one works! Good for you and happy new machine!

Can anyone tell me the proper way to attach a ruffle to the bottom of a dress?

There was a great post a while back giving pretty detailed info (even a pic??) of how to attach a ruffle. I'll do a little search and see if I can come up with anything. It was very helpful. Where is The Seamstress when you need her???

Great work everyone! I'm off to attempt a peasant top with shirring for the first time-- --scary!!!

Happy sewing!

Are you talking about the smaller 'accent' ruffle at the bottom?
I hem the smaller ruffle first and then just sew on like you did the rruffle tiers of the body of your dress.
I actually start at the bottom and work my way up attaching to the bodice last, this way the tier I'm attaching the gathered row to is not already gathered. Does that make sense?
I may not be sure what ques you're asking.

Yes, yes a buttonhole...you are a genius! I have been thinking about how to do that too but, could only think of taking off the buttons.

So I would say cut your fabric. Iron excess down all around. Sew botton holes in the right spot and cut them open, pop them through then sew all around.

Those are definitely a Dis'ers kids. I cannot remember whose though. I have seen that pic before though, what cuties!

It is a GREAT Little Machine!!! I've got one! It does wonderful appliques cuz you can adjust the with AND the thread density, has the speed control...as well as the one step buttonhole..:cheer2: ..Nana

Utahmama -

Newbie here I just bought the same machine - I'm a bit intimidated by it, and works been crazy so hopefully this weekend I will get to try it out.

Good luck with it!!!

All you ladies and Tom do such incredible work, I hope I can get that good someday.

You know with buttonholes on the bib and the sticky stuff that only lasts until washing-someone with more knowledge than I have will know the product. You could have the words, characters, symbols "appliqued" onto the garment -legs,backs,etc and then change them for a totally different outfit. This would save time as well as moolah. This could apply to any character. To make the oufit look more professional, each piece would have to be finished with a zig zag but as this would prevent fraying that's a good thing.
