I started DD in preschool half way through the year last year (a new one opened at the front of my town) and I cried every day (2 days a week) for the 1st 2 weeks. DD cried the 1st day and it broke my heart, then she excelled and loved it. She asks every day when she gets to go to school. This year it's 3 days a week but I still have DS at home. When he goes it will be so hard because I have be4en home with him since birth and he is my last. Here is a hug of support for you.

I love it! You did a great job! I would love some of this fabric but have been yet to find it. :sad2:

Thanks for the hug. My oldest is so excited to go to school. She has talked about it for months. She wanted us to leave her there are open house! Her preschool does not do half days. You can pick them up whenever but you pay for the whole day. I was going to send her til 12:30 because she does not nap. I changed my mind and they can have her during nap! It will be good because the baby will be able to take a quiet nap two days a week. My baby will not transition easy! She is my velcro baby!

I got the fabric at Hancocks. They did not have much left and I never saw it there before. If it helps it was witht the licensed fabs.

You are a rock star Aimee! That is totally cool! I have that same fabric waiting in the rafters.

Very cute! I wrote down the pattern number since they're on sale.

The pattern was not super clear for me so my seam ripper and I got very close! :rotfl2: It turned out great though. I have to make a little one for DD1 but not today.

I am going to work on a pirate skirt. My Dad is taking us out on the boat this week and Hannah wants to be decked out. He even bought her pirate chucks!

Thanks!

My model was feed and bribed today!;)

Here is the dresses on. They are a little big but they are for six months from now. I am going to be so sad when I have to spend my days doing real work. :sad2: Darn that pesky art!

Epcot- I asked my DH what he thought this dress was for and he said It's a small world. I thought of UtahMama and making dresses for all the rides. I sarcastically told him yeah I am making a dress for each ride. Not joking he said if you want go for it- Hannah would love it and she look at you and say Next Dress Please! I do not know if I should kiss him or slap him!

I have to put the buttons on the first dress - I just bought them tonight... and then the second is my creation with the minnie dot fabric and the "cheaters ruffle" thats attached to bias tape from waldemort... my hubby went with me to get some fabric - I hate to say it but Im glad he did... I changed my idea for a quilt thanks to him and I think I'll like it better!

Please be gentle on me....

They are so cute. I wish I had made DD a back to school dress. I ran out of time. I did buy some fabric though. Not sure what I can do with it now thought LOL.

Sometimes I ask my DH about colors coordinating. They are suprisingly helpful! Of course I think they all love the clothes we make for the kids.

I just found some of the EPCOT fabric at Hancock's yesterday. :cool1: The overall print of the flags and faces was on the $2.95 table. The worded print was over in with the quilting fabrics.

I'm hanging on a VoldEmort auction for some Minnie fabric. I cannot find it anywhere around here. I've been stalking the one Waldemort in town that still has a fabric department. The newer Waldemort just remodeled and got rid of their fabric department. Very disappointing, that was the better of the two, but apparently it doesn't do enough business to both keeping it. :confused3

I'm thinking about running to another Joann's the next town over, but I may just wait until Wednesday when the next pay check comes in. :) I have enough fabric on hand for quite a few projects and I have yet to find my dining room table to get the machine up. :lmao:

Can anyone help with advice on gathering tulle?

I was fine when I straight stitched the sides. I tried to do a long stitch and pull along the top. My thread keeps on breaking in the machine and I am so frustrated!!!

How do you gather tulle?

On the Hobby Lobby website, the 40% coupon is only valid until Aug 11. I need the one that starts on the 12th, anyone know when that will be available?
That I've noticed = they normally post them, on their website, around noon/1pm of the day the coupon starts ...
As far as I know, Hobby Lobby stores aren't open on Sundays (never have been). Call & make sure first.
Yes, that's right. "Closed on Sundays, to give our employees a day to worship." is what the sign says at the store by me. :)

The one time I worked with it, I gathered by hand first. Then I cut a piece of extra wide bias tape the length I needed the tulle skirt to be, tucked the gathered edge of the tulle inside the bias tape, used every pin I owned ;), and sewed very slowly on the machine.

I'm not sure of the name but I did get it at Joanns. How much do you need? I could check my local store to see if they still have it.

I don't use the 2 basting stitch method on tulle or crinoline net. The thread always breaks. What I do instead is zigzag over a heavier thread, like topstitch thread... or even dental floss. :) Then I just pull the heavy thread to gather.

I haven't tried using my ruffler foot for these but I really hope it will work. I don't use tulle often but I've got a couple ideas for skirts and anything that makes gathering tulle easier will help.

Thanks Tink!! I'm going to check another Joann's first. I'll let you know if I find any.

Dental floss works great - especially the narrow tape kind (Glide?)

I used it when I made the Pluto Poodle Skirt. I bought one of those rolls of tulle, 6 inches wide. Then just ruffled the whole roll. I didn't bother to make a side seam. Just stitched it to the skirt lining. Then did the second row just above it, overlaying the top stitching. I even had some left over, so when she goes to the next couple of sizes up, it will still work. It was so easy. And here I've been cursing up a storm for years when I had to ruffle tulle.

Question for all of you experienced sewers out there.

I have a t-shirt that I purchased DD with a very nice applique on it. It is unfortunately too small for her, (it was clearanced, so not too big a deal) but I really want to incorporate it into a new custom for her. (It's very unique, at least to me it is;) )

The t-shirt is a fairly heavy weight material, not too much stretch to it, but it does have some.
Do I try to be very careful and cut as close to the applique as I can and fuse it to the new fabric, and then stitch it on?
Do I make a panel out of it, and can I surge it to a cotton without it puckering? (never tried surging two different types of material together)
Or do I take the panel and fuse the whole thing to a piece of cotton to make it more "stable" to use?

It's the only one I have, so I just can't practice and then scrap it if it doesn't turn out.

Any and all suggestions will be helpful!

Thanks!

Tom, depending on what you decide to do, there is an interfacing made for knit fabrics. It has some stretch to it, but will stablize your fabric. I used it when I made a quilt. I took my old favorite disney shirts and cut out large squares, used the knit interfacing. Then used regular cotton fabric. I didn't have any trouble using 2 types of fabric.
