Hi Everyone!! Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. I have been trying to catch up for days! Sounds like I will be looking for a ruffler foot the next time I am out.:)
This is the latest I made for DD
aDSCF8651.jpg

I did my first pattern over the past couple days, it wasn't very fun trying to figure out the terms  but I got it done! I know that another DISer has made this shirt with the cars fabric, and I know she used the checker stuff too. Sorry, I didn't mean to copy....... I just really liked it! I don't think it's an exact copy, but I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to take credit for the combo of patterns :)

THese are so cute!
I love the cars shirt. I wanted to make one but ran out of time before my trip.

mickeyfan, great job! That is too many button holes for me, from now on only snaps. :rotfl:

daisylou, thanks for the link. It has really clear photos, I think I could do that!

Anyone seen a foot like this? I have it but, it is not in my manual and I have no clue what to do with it.

I think that is a blind hem foot. I have one kind of like that with my machine - or at least it has the screw thingy out to the side. ;) I haven't used it yet.

Do you ever do blind hems?

I watched a tutorial on the singer website. I would like to learn how but I have not gotten around to it.

I am almost done my epcot dress but I am having sewing machine and complete jerk neighbor issues tonight!

Goodness! I was at the lake for a few days and then it took me 2 more days to get caught back up!!!! You really can't turn your back for a minute without having to sit for a while to catch up around here.

I have 4 days before my girls are both back in school full time. I will officially no longer be a mommy to preschoolers for the first time in nearly 10 years. All of my sewing projects are really helping me to not stress about the first day of school this year.

Well, I won't be able to sew for a few days. We have a lot to do to get ready for school. I can't wait to get back to my projects though!!! Hopefully I'll have something fun to post later this week.

Can I have your opinion? I need to finish off this skirt. It has been changed since this pic. I added more panels to make it fuller.

I just bought the black ribbon with hanging cold coins. Would you put the ribbon off coins right under the elastic on the top or do it as a trim on the bottom.

The shirt that is going to with it is a black t-shirt with 600 gemstones. It is shorter than the white tank she has on in the pic.

I haven't done them in years because I could never get them to be totally invisible. Of course when I did them, it wasn't with a special foot so that might help. If I want a hem that isn't noticable, I do it by hand... and I do that only on certain types of fabric, like silk, which I rarely ever use.

GREAT outfits as usual everyone - Im so jealous!

Ok I am finally ready to share... I have to put the buttons on the first dress - I just bought them tonight... and then the second is my creation with the minnie dot fabric and the "cheaters ruffle" thats attached to bias tape from waldemort... my hubby went with me to get some fabric - I hate to say it but Im glad he did... I changed my idea for a quilt thanks to him and I think I'll like it better!

Please be gentle on me....

Kristina

I know how to do a blind hem! And it's sort of almost invisible! Really!

See, my seamstress cousin came for a visit a couple weeks ago. She taught me 2 things that actually stuck!

a. the perfect blind hem...(imperfect when I do it, but it's pretty cool)
b. bias tape used inside a seam. Don't know what it's called.

She said I'd never remember how to do the blind hem so she made me a sample to save and refer to. You are actually sewing a straight (or zig zig stitch) stitch (# 09 and 10 on the cs6000) ON the 1/8-1/4 inch fold over part of the seam...you know, the very first part old-over and press? That part is never seen. It zigs along and grabs the hem a teeny stitch (if you pressed it and are really careful). I know this is about as clear as mud.

She also told me any seam that shows needs to be perfectly straight. That has totally stuck in my head. I swear, she helped me more in our hour together than any book. I wonder if she knows how much I appreciate her? Hmmmm...better call her and make sure!

I know how you feel. Only in two weeks I will officially be the Mommy of a preschooler. I am so happy and sad at the same time! DD is only going two days a week but IT'S TWO WHOLE DAYS! Next thing I know she will be going off to college!

Da ta da da . . . It's done!

This was a labor love! I thought I was a rock star with this sewing project. All was going swimmingly until I started to sew on the ruffle. I had major machine issues! I will not even get into it! Oh well, three hours after the first ruffle stitch and it's done!

I am really pleased with how it turned out. The back is more ruffled than it seems. Attaching the ruffles to the back was a little tricky. One thing that helped lining up the center ruffle was using the ironing board like a big cork board. I marked on the sides with pins where the ruffle should be placed. It was very helpful. I then laid out the fabric coordinating with the pins and pinned the ruffle in place.

By the way- I used McCall's M5084.

Yep it is a blend hem foot. My machine came with one as well.

You are a rock star Aimee! That is totally cool! I have that same fabric waiting in the rafters.

Very cute! I wrote down the pattern number since they're on sale.

I love the "cheater ruffle!" I got the big bolt of it both the pink and white from Waldemort too! I am likin' both of your new creations! You did an awesome job....is that gentle enough? ;) I think I need to get going on something back to school-y for my dd who is starting preschool this Sept. :yay: (me doing the happy dance to get 4 hours a week to myself).

Keep em coming!

I started DD in preschool half way through the year last year (a new one opened at the front of my town) and I cried every day (2 days a week) for the 1st 2 weeks. DD cried the 1st day and it broke my heart, then she excelled and loved it. She asks every day when she gets to go to school. This year it's 3 days a week but I still have DS at home. When he goes it will be so hard because I have be4en home with him since birth and he is my last. Here is a hug of support for you.

I love it! You did a great job! I would love some of this fabric but have been yet to find it. :sad2:

PLEASE tell me what pattern you all are using for the apron style dresses? I did a search on google and can not find the one shown on here. Pretty please!!

aimeeg & Krispy, lovely lovely. :thumbsup2

So it is a blind hem foot huh. Doh! Now I wish I hadn't done one with my regular foot. :rotfl: Mine stunk too. I will have to play around with it. Weird it is not even listed in my manual.

I got my Minnie fabric from Waldemort yesterday. Then I saw Hancocks had theirs on sale for $2 too. I will be getting started on MY minnie skirt soon anyway. Anyone have any idea how much tulle I will need for a ladies XL underskirt? I am guessing at least 6 yards does that sound ok?

I don't think many sewing machines come with a ruffler foot. They are big and scary looking.. I know that! It makes all those cute ruffles everyone has been showing off. I have no idea how it works, but I have to get one! :)
Congrats on the machine!!

That does look cool!! Might have to pick one of those up too. I bet it would snag easy though. No cats, dogs, children... lol

It took me a long time to convince myself to try a pattern. I had to read, and reread. I love T-shirt appliques :) Made one last month for my DS that turned 6, it had 6 balloons on it. lol

I made a very similar shirt for my son and I can;t believe that was the FIRST pattern you did. I thought it was very difficult! Great job! I've even considered making one for my DS1 to match.
