That looks so cute on her!!! Great job!!!!!

Before my DD went to school I let her try on her Belle gown. Now the dress is going to be hung in my closet in hopes she will forget about it :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think she loves it!

OMaimeeG!!!! Your princess is sure to be the Belle of the ball!! I can't wait until Liliana is older. Of course half the time I'm wishing she was a baby again..I should start appreciating her for her 2 year old self!!:rotfl: I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to raise a princess!

Everyone else, I have been so busy at work and when I'm at my MIL's (the other place I have to use a computer) I'm sewing... so I have been a bad DisPal... But everyone's creations always blow me away cause you're all so talented and I'm so much less. The Halloween stuff you're all making is WONDERFUL!! I wasn't making Lily a halloween outfit but we will be hanging out at the hotel, maybe going to dinner on halloween, so it'd be cute to have one. If I buy another scrap of fabric my DH is gonna kill me!! and I have too many projects on my plate as it is.. I still have to get the families Halloween costumes done. GRRR. I'll just have to look for something cute at Target. Maybe I'll find time to do a little layered skirt to go with it after I get everything else done;)

Back to work. I plan on finishing up her AK outfit today or tomorrow after work. I'll keep you all posted. I changed it from a spiral twirl to a straight stripwork top...I couldn't find many animal prints and had to use some scrap pieces, and the spirals use up so much fabric, but I love the prints I used and although DH said not to use the red poldadot fabric for the ruffles, he told me he was glad I didn't listen to him b/c is was just the right amount of POP for the shirt. My applique sucks, but - it is what is!

Aimee... absolutely Stunning!! You did an aweome job, you should be proud!!

DD started ALL DAY Kindergarten today!!! She only let me take a couple of pictures! I'll try to get a better picture of her outfit this afternoon when I pick her up.

I cannot find my sewing machine manual and I have never done a buttonhole. My machine has a built-in 4 step buttonhole but I don't know how to use it.

Does anyone have the Janome HF107 machine? This was bought at Hancock's 1.5 years ago.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

Maybe you can download the manual online?
Does it do an automatic button hole? Mine has a foot with a long plastic bit behind it. There is a metal lever next to the foot (built into the machine) you pull down and the plastic part runs into the metal lever and that is how it knows to go the other direction.

I am sure that makes no sense.

I never could figure out the 4 step kind though.

Your dress is gorgeous! I love it. I wanted to tell you, that you might want to hang it on a padded hanger, so you don't get hanger marks in the shoulders.
Your daughter looks adorable in it!

Hi: we're back! I made a little custom boutique trip report http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=20642462&posted=1#post20642462 if you guys want to check out the kids wearing their Disney outfits in Disney. We had a great time but I am exhausted! I stayed up way too late watching the FSU game and Megan was up at 5 in the morning.

Aimee, your daughter is just precious and that dress is gorgeous! I hope Megan doesn't see it because there is no way I could make something that fancy!

T, I am sure your applique looks fine. If you want, you can come over here and I can try to help (not that I'm an expert!).

2cutekidz: I was just thinking that your daughter does not take a bad picture. She looks great in everything you post, such a cutie. Hope the first day goes well.

Well, I have a lot of reading to catch up on, but I think I need a nap first. I really missed you guys! :grouphug:

Also I found my sailor strawberry shortcake fabric today!!! I am sooo excited my Joann's had it they never have a lot of the licensed stuff! I got half of what they had left...

Stephres - I checked out your trip report. The outfits are awesome! It looks like it was a fun trip!

I have to say I am a little bummed with the pictures. It is better in person. I still need to make the cape and the petticoat. The dress is full but I want it to be really really full. I love the rose bows. I put them on pin backs so I can take them off. I also bought a matching big rose.

Any ideas on how to pack this velvet monster!:rotfl:

I am so glad I finished and now I get to sew cotton!!!!

My Dh really liked it. He did say I wish you did not tell her about it. How are you ever going to keep it off her.

WOW!!!! That looks amazing. She's going to love it.

That is a great idea! I cannot believe I finished it so fast. Now only if I could make Christmas houses that fast! Oh well, that is work.

Ladies and (two men)-
Again, thanks so much for all of the wonderful compliments. It has been really nice to read all of these kind words. I am not going to lie the dress was tricky but I am not an expert. I have just learned a lot from my mistakes. I also bought the Simplicity guide to sewing at WalMart. It is like a sewing Bible. Whenever I do not understand something in the pattern I grab the book and it helps.

Now only if I could get over my fear of applique before our Christmas trip. I have an idea for Snow Mickey's.:santa:

Steph, thanks for the offer, if I can't figure it out I'll take you up on it!!! But I didn't practice at all cause, well, practice is for patient people- which is a club I do not belong to- and it's not all THAT bad. It's not great either.

I have my own Jack. The men in my husbands family actually have the kids convinced that our family are pirates and when they get older they'll be pirates too. They're getting older now, but they play along I think b/c it's like a secret club. HA..

She looks absolutely gorgeous Aimee. I always loved Belle's Christmas dress better than the yellow ballgown.

Stephres,

I saw you at MK!!!!!! I think you got in line shortly after us on the Pooh ride. I saw your DD's dress and kept thinking "I have seen that dress" LOL

One way to make a full skirt really stand out without a lot of petticoats is to use horsehair braid on the hem. The really pretty McCall's princess costumes call for it. I used it in bridal gowns and formals. It is made of polyester and sold by the yard in the notions section.

Joann's also sells petticoat net. It is very stiff and you just gather and sew onto a slip. I make my slips for girls out of the dress pattern, using the basic top and skirt, and then sew my ruffles to it.

Well, that's my advice. I am sure others have another way.

Susan

Thanks for that advice! I have never really understood what you do with that horsehair braid! I am thinking that might look good on Lydia's princess dress.

Next year, Lydia will start all day every day kindergarten. How did you hold up? She looks adorable!!! When Arminda started Kindergarten, she was fine, I was a mess though! Corey too. Speaking of which, my little boy just got home!!!!

I finally finished my Pooh outfit for Ds's birthday breakfast at CP this Saturday. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. ;)
The top part is kind of a mess but, I did learn a lot even though this is the 2nd time I made this pattern. One strap is about 1/2" wider than the other. :lmao: My blind hem looks MUCH better than the Backyardigans one. I used my blind hem foot even though I didn't have instructions I think I used it correctly. My buttonholes were even better this time. I only have one thing left to sew and that is a vest for Dh's goofy outfit. It is felt though so it should be very easy.

ok everyone ! I have to catch up on a ton of pages! I went to LV with a girlfriend this past weekend and my head still hurts today! Wheww it was a great trip! Lots of celebrity sightings and lots of fun! I'll catch up and be back with you all really soon!

Lori

Does anyone have some clip art or picture of large Mickey gloves I can use to make an applique? I only want the glove part. TIA!

Aimee....it is breathtaking....excellent color combination and trim, just perfect. Your little girl is beautiful. The dress looks better on her than on the hanger....you are both so blessed and what memories you will both have of that special dress...

boy, you sure whipped that up in a hurry!!! Wish I had that kind of speed!!

One question...patterns call for a 5/8 inch seam and the serger does a 3/8, I believe. Do you sew your fabrics first and then serge? That is what I have been doing with standard patterns. Is there an easier way?

Susan

I have always sewn the fabric first...make sure there are no mistakes...then serged. (Can't undo serging!)

ooooo Amen, no ripping out serging...or applique....I tried that and it was not a pretty site. Just for the fun of it, I tried an applique without any backing or anything...just gingham heart on gingham...it was ok, but I am too much of a perfectionist to put that on my clothes. I will have to practice and work with my machine to get it just right.

Got my ruffler today...got the new Disney machine out...can't find the cord!!!! Drat!! I have so much fabric cut out and so many machines and patterns all over I can't find a thing!!! What a mess...hope this ruffler thing works when I find that cord....only have until the 21st to finish my outfits.

Oh, by the way, the horsehair braid gets sewn into the hem and then turned.
The patterns tell you how to do it.
