Well, I haven't tried appliqueing on sweatshirts yet nor done adult sizes but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. :)

Hmm, I don't see a second listing... but it sounds cute. :) I didn't see the note that the pink dress is ripped.

I checked my photos of the Cinderella set and the peasant top is a white on cream paisley print. My photos aren't terribly good since they're mostly for my "records" but here's one that kind of shows the peasant top print better.

BTW - I added a light amount of fabric paint for the blush on her cheeks. That's the only place I used the paint and I thinned it down so it would act more like a dye and soak in rather than paint that is mostly on the surface.

cindy1.jpg

I love the fabrics you used for this one. Very pretty! The blush on her cheeks gives her a warm glow. This is a great applique. You are very talented and creative.

I will be on my way to Walmart in the a.m.- I also figured out that I used the heavy-duty Heat and Bond and I should have used the light so maybe that's an issue as well.
Even with this issue tonight, I'm still pretty tickled with my efforts-You ladies are definitely an inspiration! Thanks again-

Yes, that could definitely cause problems! The one time I tried sewing through appliques with it my needle gummed up, the thread would break or skip! I ended up removing the other pieces I had used it on and started over.

O.K. I have to use that Ziploc idea, I love it. It might keep me from packing and repacking the suitcase so many times!

I just thought I'd share these. We had the kids' pics done tonight and they wore their Epcot outfits so I had to share. :)

Your babies are beautiful! Have a great trip!

I wanted to share some issues I have had with my DD's school. :teacher:

One week after school started DD still wanted to have me walk her into the building. Her teacher told me to stop walking her to the room because none of the other parents walk their children in. Also she told me DD was fine once "mommy left" Umm hello I know this I was trying to get DD to get out on her own that very morning. I have had several "near misses" on the road to the school. To many people in a hurry in the morning and a couple scary incidents in the afternoon too. THere is a large daycare on the corner where lots of kids come for Pre-K.

DD was late a couple times because it is so hard to turn left out of our neighborhood and then turn left again to get to the school. My neighbor blew his horn at me when I didn't turn left when he thought I had enough time but I didn't.:confused3

This morning DD was about 3 minutes late. On the way to school we talked about her riding the bus and how it would work better because the bus picks her up earlier and she wouldn't be tardy. So when I got to school I went in with her to fill out the forms so she could be a bus rider.

We are greeted by a lady who I see in the office a lot but I don't know her name. She says, "you have been tardy a lot this year." "If you continue to be tardy we will call Social Services":scared1: I don't know how she would know how many times my daughter has been tardy. I haven't discussed this with her before. No one sent a note home with DD. THere are over 850 kids in this mega elementary school.

I tell her that we are having problems getting out of our neighborhood there is too much traffic. She says again, "we will call DFACS if she is Tardy"

SO I say well we are going to change to riding a bus so I don't think she will be Tardy again. After school I ask DD about this Lady and who she is. DD says she is the Principal!:scared: Umm, first of all where is her name badge? Everyone else in the school wears one.

I got things switched around and then left. I have been so angry about this since this morning and now I am trying to switch DD to a smaller Private school. What do you ladies think? My neighbor had an issue where she was trying to help her DS because he was having some difficulties with reading. When she talked with the vice principal he told her they were just babysitting.

Just making sure who we were "talking" to :goodvibes
I think everything is FABULOUS and it's neat to have another guy on here. I've seen your photographs (at least I think it's you :)) and you seem very creative. You should let your wife and girls "shop" on the thread, though ;)

ETA: You've got me on the mane. My first thought is it looks like DMC floss but I'm sure that's not it.

It's just loops and loops and loops of yarn - I think it was 2 or 3 full skeins(?) in all. I laid the headcovering upside down and sewed across a bunch of loops that I just laid down on top of the covering, and then when the headpiece is worn normally, it all falls down nicely. It took forever to do but she wanted the 'mane' to be really big. For the life of me I can't remember what kind of yarn is was.

WONDERFUL -- I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH THE GUYS ON THIS THREAD- - (would any of you mind talking to DH -- maybe he'll give it a whirl too).

Much as I would love to try to help you with this, every guy that hears from me that I sew looks at me like I've sprouted another head. Most of the women in my office know I sew, but none of the guys do. I keep it to myself mostly. One of the women just asked me if I could sew a pageant dress for a teen in a competition of some sort. I declined - teen and pageant in one sentence are enough to scare me off.

I really need to get more feet. My wife got the machine as a gift and it sat for 4 years gathering dust. When I opened it, it only had one presser(?) foot. Nothing else, even though the destructions said there should be more. I've only bought a zipper foot extra, but I know I need more.

Tough call - -I didn't know the school could call DCS if you had multiple tardies. I'll have to check in our handbook what the punishment is. That kind of peeves me that the teacher said something to you about walking your DD in. I walked DS into school every day for his entire year of kindergarten (as did other parents)... I really don't see what the problem is with that if there is no parking shortage/problem.

That said -- I would and will never let my children ride the school bus. I am so glad we don't even have to worry about buses at their current school (no transportation- everyone drops off).

As to switching schools -- I am sympathetic to you know after hearing what a hoser the principal was -- I don't know how future relations will go with her. Very tough decision. I really empathize with your situation. I would check with the school/school board for the handbook to make sure she is telling you the right information as to tardies. If you want to keep her in the same school - maybe you could leave earlier. I have to do that with my kids - to get in line for 7:45 drop off - I have to be there at 7:20.:confused3

I know this is kind of JV compared to the amazing work on this thread, but my daughter loved it and got lots of compliments from CMs during the princess and pirate party. She was doing some kind of funky dance to the music playing at the start of the party which is why she looks like such a goof!

So has anyone tried making matching hair clips?
My DD is 16 months so I need to use the little alligator clips- I think someone said they found them at Sally's?
Can you point me in the direction of some hair clip instructions?
Everyone's creations are so beautiful. I am hoping to get my new machine out this weekend and get sewing. You all are very inspiring.

There are lots of bow directions in the bookmarks. Links in mine and Hkite's siggys and in the first post of this thread.

Here is my Minnie skirt for MNSSHP. I look weird but, it was the best picture I could get today.
OH and I wanted to add I decided to not wear the tulle underneath. I looked like a house.
th_minnieskirt.jpg
Love the Minnie skirt and the ears!
Thanks to a wonderful fellow diser, this is the outfit DD will wear to the magic kingdom!! I just love it.
th_100_5523.jpg

Thank you Nana!!!!!
The clippie bows are from ebay.
Really cute! I'd love to see her in it.
I found ours at Party City a local party streo.
Also the costume that we got her came with a black ribbon for around her neck. It was cheap and scratchy so I went and got some velvet ribbon and made a little neck peice for her. She looked so like a princess!

I forgot in this picture there are no gloves she got hot

th_dsc_29831.jpg
They both look so pretty!
Please excuse the mirror in the one shot - I let DD4 "clean" it earlier that day!

100_1945.jpg

Adorable! You did a great job.

Ok, I go into Joanns today to buy a ruffler foot. I walk to the "sewing" department and find two of them on a rack. I didn't feel comfortable just picking one, so I waited patiently for some assistance. After discussing my machine & needs with the two ladies, they tell me that I need to pay for it right there. I agreed and pulled out my 40% off coupon and they acted appalled (sp?) that I would suggest such a thing and firmly told me that they are NOT affiliated with Joanns and I can not use that coupon on their items! They said they lease that space and do not accept those coupons. So I asked if I could take the foot to the front counter (I had to ask!) and pay for it there using my coupon. Well, I thought one of them was going to faint!!!

Have I not read on here that some of you bought your ruffler foot at Joanns and used a 40% coupon? Or am I mistaken?

What if I just walk in take it off the rack and go up front with it?

Heather used it on hers. She just gave them the coupon and it took it off the ruffler foot automatically. It was the most expensive thing she was buying.

This is the first time I've had something to contribute.:cool1:

Here is the Ariel shirt with denim shorts. I'd posted earlier asking how to create the ribbon shorts/skirt and really appreciate everyone's help. When I went to Waldemort, I found this great trim and I figured it would be easier to just sew it on. I'm pretty pleased with the result.   My daughter thinks the shirt is a little short. I'm trying to decide if I want to add another ruffle. What do you think?

th_Outfit1.jpg

A little off topic--This picture is of my first creation:) This is the outfit my DD7 wore on the first day of school. You can't see all of the bottoms, but they are pink gingham capris. I can't take much credit for the top since the shirring was already in place when I purchased the fabric at Waldemort.:wizard: To make it Disney related, if you could see the front of her bookbag and lunchbag, you would see the Disney Princesses.princess:

th_outfit2.jpg

I still have three other outfits to finish before we leave for Disney on the 12th. So I should have more to post later.

I love the Ariel top! I don't think it looks too short, but if she really wants it longer, I think another ruffle would look fine. The pink outfit is really cute too! Nice job!

Your sons and daughter are so cute!!!! I love the outfits!

I have to compliment all of you once again...you're all so talented and I love everything I have seen on this thread! :thumbsup2

I'm coming out of lurkdom(is that a word? :) ) to ask for opinions please...

It's my first trip to WDW, as well as both my girls and I need some advice from you WDW vets. :goodvibes I know I'm asking a biased audience ;) but... we have reservations for CRT breakfast in September. I have a custom cinderella outfit that I just love for my daughter complete with appliqued shirt, twirl skirt, and matching necklace, bracelet, shoes, and bows.

If she wears the custom outfit instead of a cinderella costume will she feel out of place? Would I be better off having her wear the custom outfit a different time and wear a costume for the breakfast :confused3
Opinions, experiences, please :flower3:

Since you say she doesn't really like the costumes, I would definetely not make her wear one. You want her comfortable and happy. When we went, two years ago, there were girls in costumes and girls in shorts and t-shirts.
This is my favorite castle picture. It is priceless.

th_DisneyWorldFour033.jpg

I love the picture!

Your 2 DS and DD are so cute. Don't worry about the gender error. When Zoe was that size, I could have her totally dressed in pink & lace and someone would invariably remark how cute HE is. LOL I'd usually thank them and say something like... "I agree plus she's a sweet baby, too" with just a slight emphasis on the pronoun. ;)

When Arminda was a baby, I had her in a blue velvet outfit, with a lace collar and a flower on it. A lady came up to me and said what a cute little boy I had. I told her it was a girl, and she looked at me and said, "WELL... he's wearing blue!" As if I were WRONG about the gender of my own child! That was weird. I usually put headbands on her, just to avoid such sitations.

My sister, Hkite, didn't have much hair as a baby, and people often thought she was a boy. So, my mom would tape bows onto her bald little head!

Help

I am looking for a tutorial on covering headbands and making the headbands with the "tail" that goes on under the hair. I have a general idea of what I am doing but that is about it.

Anyone have ideas or links out there?

Thanks!!!

There are some similar type tutorials in the bookmarks. I think the link is Hurray for headbands.

Thank you, not quite what I was looking for. :( I will keep searching though

Thanks!

They have headbands at the dollar store, that are a plastic headband covered in material, with the ends hanging down, have you looked at those? My girls have quite a few, but I'm not sure where the camera is right now!

Let me know if you find anything, and I can add it to the bookmarks.

I can't imagine a school like this! This behavior is unprofessional and disrespectful..but it must stem from the top. If the principal behaves in this manner, then so will others. But I hold elementary teachers in such esteem that I can't imagine anyone behaving like this.

She is your daughter and you are the one who should decide when DD is walked into school.

If you are tardy, the correct way to address this concern would be to greet you and after your DD is where she needs to be, ask to speak to you privately.

Children are not small adults. I would arrange a meeting with the teacher and/or the principal and quietly, calmly, and in a kind, concerned voice express my concerns for my child.

And...I would pray about it....sometimes that works best of all...I leave it up to God to lead me where He wants me to go in these situations...if left to my own devices I would probably end up going in like a wet hen and claw their eyes out!!!! Boy I don't like anyone who is unkind....

That is what I am looking for. It can't be that hard to make. I am going to try and something tomorrow if I can. I was thinking that these would be cute with a pirate outfit if I can figure it out.

I still have three other outfits to finish before we leave for Disney on the 12th. So I should have more to post later.

I LOVE it! Especially the shirt with Ariel. It is AWESOME! Where did you get that pattern? I might try to make one for my dd. Very sweet. Good job!:yay:

I am a self-proclaimed packing expert. I decided on which outfits for which days for which kids. I used 1-gallon and 2-gallon and some 1-quart sized zip-lock bags from the dollar store. I ironed and folded complete outfits and labeled the bags with a marker like Aimee did. I put the child's name and date of wear and time of day. I divided my three suitcases by the day. The biggest was for Mon, Tues and Wed. The medium size was for Thur and Fri. And the smallest was for Sat and Sun. Once in Disney, as the suitcase was finished, I put the dirty clothes in it and zipped it up. I put "kits" in the zip compartments in the top part of the suitcase like medical kit, sunscreen kit, hair kit, etc. Hairbows were hung from a hanger and put in a bag with lots of air so it wouldn't get squished. I packed three outfits per kid (3 kids) per day plus pj's and swim suits. I only brought two pairs of shoes per kid. I had two outfits per day for myself. The pull-ups and wipes went in my DH's suitcase. I also had two carryons: one with toys and fun stuff and the other with change of clothes etc. Here are my pics of packing:

Empty suitcases and zip lock bags piled in front

Day 4 and 5 suitcase:

Day 6 and 7 suitcase with the hairbow stuff:

I really liked this way of packing because everything was planned and portioned out ahead of time. I just doled out the zip-lock bags and it separates the clean from the dirty.

I will definetly try it. What an AWESOME idea! Thanks for sharing it! I'll let you know how it works for us.:woohoo:

OMG! That is so funny. My DD wants to be Cinderella for Halloween too. But she specifically said to me...MOM I HAVE to have the GLOVES!!

Where the heck did you find them?

Thanks!!

Maura

I couldn't find them where I live, but my sister found them at at foo-foo boutique near her...the kind of place that sells pagent dresses. Now you can find them easily at WDW with all the other princess accessories.

Don't you just hate that?! It was the same way with Marissa, she was bald until she was 2, and this was the day before gripper bows, so I couldn't even do that. She'd be in pink ruffles and lace, ears pierced and sitting in a carseat with a bright pink cover on it, and "I'd hear what a cute little fella"

I was looking in THAT site at all the other searches posted recently and came upon this one... custom boutique pumpkin patch overalls original design.

Look at the price...I wonder what the reserve is. No way I'm paying that for a seasonal outfit for a toddler! It's really cute though, I may have to do something like it myself!

Jen, they are adorable!! I can't believe how much Ilana has grown -- a little doll. The boys are getting big as well! Your trip is getting sooo close, I am excited for you and jealous as well!

BTW, the outfits are great!

KDK1188......LOVE this T-shirt and that your daughter celebrated the pirate part of the party...too cute!
