These outfits are so cute. I love the sunglasses!

you know, I love all those time consuming hours and hours outfits that make you go crazy putting together! But sometimes it is a simple outfit that is just as cute! and of course you can't be sassy without sunglasses!
Lori

I LOVE THE NEMO OUTFIT!!! You did a fine job.

Can anyone tell me the right way to make a casing for the elastic on my skirts? Also how do you stitch the elastic together? I mean I have "my" way of doing it and it works, but what is the "right" way to do it. You know so it looks good? :rotfl: Thanks and keep up the good work. I hope to be able to accomplish more now that my DD is off to school all day :sad1: I can't believe how fast they grow...as soon as my DS starts preschool (after Labor Day) I will hopefully have a few days a week that I can actually accomplish something !!!

When I make a casing, I first press down 1/4" from the top. Then I press down 1" and pin. I sew around as close as possible to the first fold, making sure to leave an opening for the elastic! Then, I thread the elastic thru (3/4") and safety pin the elastic together and try it on DD. I really don't think it matters how you sew the elastic together, I usually zig zag a couple of times. Last I sew the opening closed and go up through the elastic so it doesn't twist.

This is FINALLY finished. It's taken me much longer that I had hoped. It does have a great twirl factor. I'm considering doing some kind of embellishment on the bodice - maybe a tiara in rhinestones? What do you think?

Please excuse the floor that is in desparate need of vacuuming, and th hair that is in desparate need of styling.

First, that dress is spectacular!

Second, I'm jealous, I wish my floor just needed a vacuum...

I need to find the floor in my apartment, it's been missing since we moved in two years ago. :lmao:

Very cute! Love the twirl. I just saw at Joann's a "diamond" crown iron on that would be cute.

Eeyore that chalboard fabric is adorable!!!!

Now y'all are making me want a girl again. I keep going back on forth on having another one, obviously I know I can't guarantee having a girl, but I usually get what I want, ha ha. You will all have to stay tuned on that one. :rotfl:

Revrob I think DDs hair looks great! It looks much better than my 'styled' hair today. The dress is cute, I love the fabric combo. I think a tiara would be perfect.

celerystalker cute skirt. It reminds me of Tink. That is some serious tulle going on to stand up...I love it! :thumbsup2

OK I better go sew. I have 22 days left till vaca and a million things to do! :scared1:

thanks everyone for the twirly skirt links etc.....

I still couldn't figure out why I had to make each layer into a loop before sewing each tier together so a made a "paper model" of my skirt ( I am a real visual learner) it ends up a diagonal of course from the gathering and does look like it might be hard to match it up and stitch it straight so I guess I will follow the patterns as suggested on every tutorial I have seen....

why do I have to question everything !!! I never was good at "following directions" cooking is always a little of this , a little of that ...who needs a recipe (or a pattern for that matter....) I will let you all know hopefully tomorrow...more likely Sat how it went....I hope to sew while my girls are hosting a High School Musical 2 party/sleepover tomorrow ( I will be up all night anyway !!)

UtahMama - I am using 8 different materials of red, black and white patterns/solids - hopefully to wear with a mickey head and ribbon shirt

Yippeeee!!! Nice to meet you!

DH was born and raised in the Green Bay area- actually closer to De Pere, in a farming town called Greenleaf (think Hwy 96). He comes from a BIG family though (12 brothers and sisters) and most of them live somewhere in the general vicinty of GB. We are moving to the Milwaukee area within the next few months.

Where in GB are you?

I grew up in Ashwaubenon-right next to De Pere. We now live north of town in Suamico. Maybe we need to plan one of those fabric shopping meets they did in MI??
Here's my latest finished projects for my DN. They are not Disney, but practice for. It's my first strip skirt and embellished jeans.

LOVE that Nemo dress- especially the 3-D dimension from the seaweed and flower...Great Job! Two great Nemo outfits on the board today- I am officially inspired!!
Thank you I really need the encouragement to applique again!

I found it at Walmart a couple of weeks ago.
Thank you so much! My older dd's want capris and that would be so cute along with the nemo fabric I have to make ruffles and stuff and still match little sister!

I also love the seaweed on that! Great job!
Thank you I played with that idea for awhile before finally taking the plunge on it. I wasnt sure if it turned out the way I wanted it to, but I'm glad ya'll like it, it gives me confidence to proceed with more wacky ideas. I aplogize for posting nemo at the same time you did, I loved your skirt and I am planning on using the water fabric that you used. See, I like yours better!

Ok, now I need Nemo fabric!
He turned out great.
Thank you!

WOW!! Everybody's stuff looks great!! The Nemos skirts are too cute, the Simba is beautiful and Tom, you out did yourself again! The Pillowcase princess dress...Love the back!!!!
Thank you! I love the Simba one also and her applique was harder than mine!

Eeyore's tiara - That nemo outfit is cute! I don't think the eyes look bad. You did a great job.
Thank you, i was so tired I was appliqueing (sp?) in a zigzag around the eyes. I should have just stopped and gone to bed, but I actually felt good enough that day to try and finish.

I wanted to comment again on your Nemo! I love the applique, I envy anyone that can do that! They look fine! I might try something for my diaper case, since I'm too scared to try to applique anything else!

Is this one piece or two?

I can't help on the capris, I've yet to do those. They are on my list, though.
Thank you again, it is several pieces but mainly one big orange piece for the main body, then the fins on top and bottom are seperate. The white strips are just placed on top of the already cut out fish and then sewn around. It's the same with the mouth and eyes. I had thought if I did it again, I'd make Nemo with fins already attached, but I dont know. I was able to move his fins around to fit her bodice better since they were seperate.

I think I saw where someone said you open the inside seams to do applique on pants...?
It erased your quote :sad2: I hope I spelled your name right.:)
Hi, my name is Cassandra and I have a secret addiction to watching project runway. It is sooo cool that you went to see where they stay. Does anyone else get frustrated when the person you think should win doesnt? Lke I have any control over it. :rotfl:

What do I think? You finished this LAST WEEK and waited until now to share it wit us???!!!???? It's wonderful!! You did a great job, I love Nemo!
Yes, I know, but better late than never? Health issues sidelined me for awhile. Thank you , I really appreciate your comments!

Evidently, y’all wear your best smarty pants when sewing. A factoid no one enlightened me on.
I'm sorry. :guilty: Did I forget to send you the memo.. I meant to...:rotfl2: Only you could trip report a sewing project.:rotfl2:

Heather - LOVE the Simba dress!! Excellent work on the applique and the fabrics are great!

I love your Nemo!! I have that fabric and have been toying with the idea of a Nemo applique, but I haven't been brave enough to attempt applique yet. You are giving me courage!
Thank you, you should have seen my first attempts..:scared: Heather's Simba looks like it was harder than mine to do. I'm not perfect like LisaZoe yet, but maybe one day if I keep practicing and someone sprinkles a lot of pixie dust on me...pixiedust:

Eeyore's Tiara- I woke up in the middle of the night realizing I hadn't told you how much I love your Nemo dress. Sorry I DID think it, you should have gotten my ESP message that it is ah-maize-ING! I love the ribbon details and sea-plant on the bodice.
I got your esp message. :flower3: Thank you for thinking of me in the middle of the night though, it makes me feel special!

Thank you! I can't remember what I was going to say,

ok everyone I know I have been MIA for awhile. school started this week. My 6 yearold started monday and my 3 year old started tuesday! Then the baby had dr's appts all day yesterday! ugghhh! So I am now catching up today!
Here are the kids on there first days of school!
Lori
Too cute! I remember crying more than my dd's on the first day of school.

Does anyone know how to make these beautiful creations... my mom does the sowing at home and I want to give her some instructions on how to make these.... Please can someone help? Do you need a special machine or something???
Thank you!
Were you asking about appliques? LisaZoe is probably the most adept at answering that. She's got some awesome work. It just requires a zigzag or satin stitch. She gave instructions awhile back, you might check the first page of this thread. Thats where all the pics and info for making most things will be. Hope that helped! :thumbsup2

spongy -

eeyore's tiara - I love your applique!
Thank you so much! I'm gaining enough confidence to try it again!

I needed that!

ok, I was busy while I was away from the board for a week. Here are 2 of the outfits I finished! oh, and Josephine always feels the need to wear sunglasses. of course we are in AZ and sometimes the glare is huge - no clouds for days!
They are cute and so is your dd. I love the mickey ears! Is that a headband?

This is FINALLY finished. It's taken me much longer that I had hoped. It does have a great twirl factor. I'm considering doing some kind of embellishment on the bodice - maybe a tiara in rhinestones? What do you think?
Please excuse the floor that is in desparate need of vacuuming, and th hair that is in desparate need of styling.
A tiara is always a good idea!:rotfl2:

Gosh this is so long, I'm sorry I talked to much!:)

Hooray Goody Goody I got mail today !:dance3: pixiedust: I love getting mail now. :cloud9:

I am going to order one for DD21 as well once she has a look at these and decides she wants one. I'm going to get a family picture in front of CInderella's Castle with us in the t-shirts and the girls in their Minnie overalls and use it as our Xmas Card pic this year.

I want to make a skirt like that, but I've not had any luck. I've had several tips, but it just doesn't work for me.

I finally have the bows done for Heather!

Beautiful bows, Tom!

1 - Both dress and your dd are adorable! I have that princess fabric and I'm scared to cut it, along with my Minnie dot, princess toile, etc.

2 - I think a rhinestone tiara would be perfect!

3 - Who has time for vaccuming and hair styling when there is sewing to be done!

When I make a casing, I first press down 1/4" from the top..... Last I sew the opening closed and go up through the elastic so it doesn't twist.

I never thought about sewing up through the elastic to prevent twisting! Great idea, thanks!

Eeyore-

I am so hooked on Project Runway. I did not think tatoo neck should have won last year! I feel your pain. Like me being upset will change a thing. I was not even looking for the Atlas. I just saw it out of the corner of my eye! I took out my handy dandy camera and fired away. I am not a "autograph seeking" kind of girl but I had an overwhelming need to go to Mood! Now whenever I am watching PR I can say I was there! That's not going to get old. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I aplogize for posting nemo at the same time you did, I loved your skirt and I am planning on using the water fabric that you used. See, I like yours better!

Don't say that! You worked harder on yours than I did and you should really love yours, I know I do!

I think I CASE that!!!!! I think the family Christmas pic will be superb! But, you must post pics for us to see!

TERESAJOY- Where do you live in WIsconsin??? I'm moving there soon!

Edited to add................ Man! It IS late!! You're not in Wisconsin.... you're in Michigan!! DAH!!! Well.... it make sme feel a little bit better to at least be able to say I use to live in Michigan! We lived in South Lyon- which is west of Detroit and just north of Ann Arbor. So... do you live near ther at all??

I live in Southwest Michigan, below Kalamazoo and above Sturgis. :) My husband's family is from over on the other side of the state, in Lapeer. I guess I would be west of where you lived.
Has Anyone Created A Mickey Head 9or Any Other Design) From The Crystal Beads, Like The Bead-dazzler? Was Wondering How That Worked. If Anyone Has Done This Do You Have A Diagram Of How To Evenly Space The Crystals, Also, Do They Come Of In The Wash? Thanks Alot!!!!

Stepmmom3 did one I believe, and I'm thinking a few others. She made herself one and it's in the photobucket site with the "adult" photos. :lmao:

Lori

So cute!!! Lydia starts kindergarten next year. They will go all day every day, and I just don't know how I am going to handle it! Well, I do know, I am going to do a LOT of crying!

For those ladies having a rough sewing day. Just look at the pretty pic and say.

Calm Blue Ocean, Calm Blue Ocean, Calm Blue Ocean.

Gorgeous!!! I love the tiara idea.

Here's my skirt I just finished.
These are taken with a cell phone camera, so they're not the best.

I love it! I am planning an Ariel inspired petal skirt. Who knows when I will actually get it made though!
I need to find the floor in my apartment, it's been missing since we moved in two years ago. :lmao:

:lmao: I love it! When my kids can't find something, I like to tell them "It's probably under your floor" That only really makes sense if you have seen their floor though! Uggh, what a mess.

I would have bought more but . . . they only had two yards!

It was $2 a yard also! The huge American Flag ribbon was like $2.50. I got 3 yards to do something for the Liberty Tree. I was thinking it might make cute ruffles for capri cuffs. I am doing a tiered red, white and blue top and white capris. I wanted to do really cute korker bows to look like fireworks.

I have to finish a couple projects and I think I will work on the Liberty get ups next!
