Yeah! Another Wisconsinite soon. Where are you moving to? I'm in Green Bay.

Yippeeee!!! Nice to meet you!

DH was born and raised in the Green Bay area- actually closer to De Pere, in a farming town called Greenleaf (think Hwy 96). He comes from a BIG family though (12 brothers and sisters) and most of them live somewhere in the general vicinty of GB. We are moving to the Milwaukee area within the next few months.

Where in GB are you?

Just thought I would post the pics of the package I got in the mail Saturday for Sam and Kiley  . They both have colds and were crank butts last night so I did'nt make them pose in them. I just got their bows for this outfit in the mail and I'll post them later.

Since I had two choices, I asked her if she would like a pair of bows, or one bow for each outfit. She picked one bow for each outfit.

I actually did not make her hairbows. she has a plaid uniform and skirts that match. the uniform store sells all kinds of bows and headbands with the matching material! They are very smart those bows were 4.99 each!

Question One-

How do you store your girls bows when they are not wearing them?

Question Two-

I am looking for a generic jumper pattern. I want to make Belle's blue dress and Cinderella's work dress.

Hi AimeeG

I am making Belle's blue dress for my own costume for MNSSHP. I bought 2 different patterns, one for the blouse (and then I did the collar freehand) and one for the jumper. The jumper was made by using a costume pattern styled after a German dirndl dress. I had to modify it heavily as it was designed to be a button front and I turned it into a closed front, zip back. But it was the best option available for me, at least in the adult sizes. You should be able to find period/ethnic type costume patterns for the smaller girls in the Halloween sections of the pattern books and go from there.

spongy - I love your princess dress!

tnmom - you inspired me. I had a night at home for the first time in awhile, so I made my ariel inspired twirl/tulle skirt.
Woo!

I'll post it after I'm done with hand sewing the elastic casing at lunch.
I hope it fits Jeanie.
This will be awful if it doesn't!!!

Utah - Have I told you lately that I love you? Well I do! You crack me up!

eeyore's tiara - I love your applique!

Tom - nice job on the bows!

Another general question about ruffles. I don't have a ruffling foot. I was wondering how long a ruffle you tend to use on your skirts. I have a twirl skirt I want to add a ruffle to. It is a complete circle, so I know I will need A LOT of material for a ruffle. Does everyone double the measurement or 1 1/2? Can I please get some opinions on this ? :confused3 Thanks a bunch.

-Michelle

I have become the selp proclaimed ruffle queen! princess:

Here is what I did. I took a scrap piece of fabric. It was 15 inches. I ruffled it. I came up with 4 inches of ruffled fabric. I divided 15 by 4 and got 3.75. I know for every inch of ruffle I want I will need 3.75 inches of fabric. I used castles trick about a white envelope. That is the width I use and I made a longer template to cover the folded fabric.

If you are not going to use a ruffler I would do a similar thing. Take a scrap piece of fabric and gather it. (dental floss method) Note the before measurement. Gather your fabric to the right ruffle fullness and measure. Then you can divide and see how much fabric you will need!

See Easy :cool1:

AimeeG - I am in love  with your tulip trim! How the heck do you sew that on though?!

It is tacky on the back so I am wondering if it is a heat bond. I hope so! This was the one that was $11 a yard. I only bought a yard and felt guilty because I have nothing planned.

Oh I so wish that I weren't already committed to dressing up w/ the rest of the travelers I'm going to MNSSHP with. Belle would be FANTASTIC!!! My DD (she's 2 mind you) Points to her on her pullups and says "Mama" she knows the word princess and she knows Jasmines name...but when she sees Belle she Always says Mama.
Could it be any sweeter?

PS. I LOVE, love, love the cinderella dress it is just darling!!
...t.

I usually double the measurement so I get a nice full ruffle. I sometimes triple the measurement if the total length isn't too daunting. ;)

Tom...I really think you need WAYYYY more ribbon in your bows

Just Joking , your bows are insanely fabulous!!!

I did find a handy gadget called the "Mini Bowdabra" that helps me a-lot to make big FULL bows like yours (only not as cool).

HELP WITH A TWIRL SKIRT QUESTION PLEASE :scared:

so I am sitting at my desk for lunch actaully cutting all the fabric I marked out last night to make one of the patchwork twirl skirts...I have been reading and lurking for weeks and hope to pull out my MIL hand-me-down sewing machine tonight and take the plunge....(I don't sew I hot glue !!!)

so I read with great interest UtahMama's sewing report and hope to have learned from Lisa's follow up suggestion to start from the bottom....

still have 2 questions....

#1-do you sew each tier into a circle before you sew it to the next teir? If so why? why not sew straight and then sew up a side?

#2-do the teir skirts usually have a ruffle also at the bottom or is it too heavy to add that too and should I just do a straight hem...

thanks...I am sooooo nervous

BTW my co-workers think I am crazy - they have never heard of someone making an outfit just for a trip....if they only knew.....

I LOVE THE NEMO OUTFIT!!! You did a fine job.

Can anyone tell me the right way to make a casing for the elastic on my skirts? Also how do you stitch the elastic together? I mean I have "my" way of doing it and it works, but what is the "right" way to do it. You know so it looks good? :rotfl: Thanks and keep up the good work. I hope to be able to accomplish more now that my DD is off to school all day :sad1: I can't believe how fast they grow...as soon as my DS starts preschool (after Labor Day) I will hopefully have a few days a week that I can actually accomplish something !!!

can anyone help me with this?

Another dumb question. I was planning to do a tiered ruffle skirt for my DD and I was wondering, how do you ruffle the two tiers together if they are not the same length?!?!? BTW I do have the ruffler foot. I am just having trouble visualizing (sp?) and I figured it is much easier to just ask!!!! TIA

Any help with this? I am confused on how this fabric with "meet up" if they are different lenghths?!!?!?:confused3
