Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Well, I finished my daughter's first day of kindergarten outfit. I let her pick the fabric (frogs!) and the pattern (skorts) so I think she'll be happy with it. I took a frog and sewed him onto some green fabric and then ironed that on and stitched around with ric rac for the t-shirt. I couldn't decide what to do. I had initially thought I wanted an appliquéd frog, but I am pretty sure that is outside my skill level. This was easy and cute too. Hopefully tomorrow I'll take a picture of her in it.

And here is my sewing machine. It is a Kenmore bought when I first got married 12 years ago. Hardly used, until now!

My daughter loves frogs - where did you find that fabric?

It was at JoAnn's. The last time I was in it looked like it was gone from mine. I bought it when they first put out the back to school fabrics.

Oh gosh, I'm in awe....can you tell me more about how your ribbon organizer works??? I've been doing bows lately and I've kept it pretty organized but what love it more organized and accessible...thanks

I got fed up with just sewing out of a roll-out/fold-away-desk ...
so, I took over an "extra" room ... :)
It was small, so it got filled up very fast ...
I got fed up again.
I emptied the room, made new desks & shelves, put it all back ...
NOW, it's fine. =)
I just hope we don't have to move anytime soon! ;)
(this is a 12'by12' room)

"pack-rat with style" is what my best-friend calls it.

Somebody asked how I did all this. Here's How.

Made a little boy too.. but he didn't turn out as well as the girl...

Planning on attempting shorts/skirt to go with the girl/boy tops with the Friends fabric... makes me feel a little like this  I'm so new at the machine! :P

Here is my sewing machine...

The picture didn't turn out that great but you can see it anyway.

It's 15-16 years old as DH bought it for me on our first Christmas together (I asked for one). I told him nothing *too* fancy & by today's standard this is pretty basic but it actually does a lot that I have no clue what the stitches really do. I'm learning more little by little though.

Lovin' all the new stuff and everyone has done a great job!!

Wondering something else....
I know there was/is a big meet up at the Hancock in Michigan (I hope I got that right) and there was tons of people that did/are going. I thought it might be fun to know where everyone lives -- if you don't mind sharing. Just recently I found a couple of people involved in this thread that live within 45 minutes of me. You never know, there might be even more people that could do a 'meet-up' on here. And, it might be a way of people getting there hands on some that hard to find material everyone keeps searching for.

Anyways, I live in Atlanta!

Here's more helpful organizing ideas ...

I used to keep all my fabrics in bins (I still do, yes, there's MORE!) ...
I got tired of sorting though folded fabric piles
IN & OUT of bins, back & forth, refolding, even just to SEE what was in it = you know what I'm talking about. grrrr... THIS was when I started doing my favorite "MINI-BOLTS"

cardboard, cut to fit * cheap ...
+ I suggest you use ELASTIC, sewn or tied into "bands", instead of rubber bands. I had a problem with the rubber "deteriorating" (whatever that was, it was nasty & sometimes ruined the fabric) ...
I LOVED THIS! You can just open the tub, see ALL the fabrics, get what you wanted & put it back WITHOUT all the old hassle! ... you can even put fabric BITS in ziplocks & slide that under the band = less mess. :)
"MINI-BOLTS" also work on shelves AND in armories ! :)

I used to use big ziplocks ALOT (even in my bin/tubs), but they SLID all over (annoying) ... now, they don't. :)

in an extra closet or on a bar somewhere = BIG ziplock bags attached to hangers. ... this is great for basements & garages, so that they don't get yicky or musty ... I suggest NOT pointing the bags down  and use slider bags = they are the easiest.
Hope that helps. :)

Somebody asked how I organized my sewing room. Here's How.

 Insert drewling smiley here.....I absolutely love  your organized sewing room and all that fabric and supplies......just made my eyes watering looking at the pictures of it...I love me some organized sewing supplies!! Bravo and you did it all yourself! Fabulous just fabulous!

Today I sat down and started planning my projects for our trip. I know we are not going until the first week of March but . . . my busy work season is rapidly approaching. I will have all August, January and February. Sept-Dec I am way too busy with work to have any side projects!

My DD3 shopped on the photobucket link. It was too funny. We found some good inspiration. I had planned on making the baby smocked dresses. For the times she does not have smocked dresses I am going to make coordinating pillowcase dresses for her.

I went through all the fabric I have bought and started mapping out outfits. I matched their clothes to events and parks. Then I made a list of event, outfit, pattern, fabric and supplies still needed. I grouped all the supplies in labeled ziploc bags. (Just like when I packed.) They all went into a big Old Navy Shopping bag. The bag is temporary until I find something better.

I did have a question for the Mom of this little cupcake . . .

I love this style of dress. Can you let me know what pattern was used or does anyone have a suggestion for a similar pattern? I have some really bright citrus seersucker type fabrics. It is for the Crystal Palace. All the colors match Pooh and friends!!!

GGGGRRRRRR!!!!! Has anyone used McCall pattern 5088!?!?!?! I'm stuck on the bodice!!! I'm giving up for tonight (almost 11 in Mi.). Any help would be appreciated!!
