Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

I am certainly no expert, but I'll tell you how I do it. I hand wind the elastic thread around the bobbin, making it a little bit tight. I use plain thread for the top. The elastic thread has never broken or knotted for me. I know it's not much help.

Thanks for responding, she did all that, but it didn't work!
My Friends around the world

Dress for DD she has told me that she is never wearing this. I am trying not to cry. But I will be packing it for our upcoming trip.
I am right there with you!! I have posted tons of bows and necklaces that I made and my 6 year old DD will never wear! It is definately heartbreaking! But I say pack it anyway and tell her that is the only thing she has to wear that day. As I tell my daughter when we are on a trip and she doesn't like any of the clothes I have packed, wear this or go naked, I don't care!;)

For anyone sewing using the red minnie dot, check you local Walmart. I bought a bolt today for only $2.00 a yard. The never have it. They brought it in, for costumes. I also got a cute Disney print with Minnie building a snow man, and Mickey sledding, I think... I will be posting photos this afternoon.

All because of you(twist my arm ;) ), I went to Walmart and bought the whole bolt of the red fabric. It's not the same as the minnie dot, but I actually like it better! Thanks!
When I picked it up my daughter says, "Oh no, do I have to look cute, again?" It is so tough being 6!!:rotfl2:

The flour and water shirts are cute -- they have a tie dye look to them.

Here is another version of the shirts: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=950647&highlight=flour+shirts

Thanks for sharing!

I tried my hand at shirring a dress for DD4 and it was SO easy!! The machine and the elastic thread do all the work (if the machine is working properlly, that is). I just followed the directions (pretty much) in this link from terejoy's bookmarks:
http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2007/04/shirred-dress-tutorial.html

Here's my little darlin' in her dress:

Great looking dress. I'll have to have a go at shirring next.

Swimsuit cover up I made..

Great looking outifts--boy, you have been busy. I love the cover-up. Very unique to this thread. Outfits, twirl skirts, PJs and now cover ups--I'll be sewing until our next Disney trip over a year away!

Welcome lurker!!!

How clever! Nice applique!

Girls Next Door is my guilty pleasure too!

Lovely dress! Your daughter looks very proud!

So cute! I love this fabric--Nemo is a fav in our house too! DD2 loves the seaguls--"Mine, Mine, Mine"!

I love that it's reverseable!

Great job on the twirl skirt Tink! I am looking forward to seeing pics of your DD in all her customs!

I too saw this at Joannes just last week. It is flannel and I wouldn't know what to do with it. DD liked it too.

Nope, it wasn't a mod who said to remove them, it was the creater of the outfits who doesn't want her work posted -- and that's her right.

That's too bad. Seems like she would like the free advertising--why cut your nose? I always thought she had cute stuff but would never purchase from her now. Looks like she might have lost a good customer too--there were a lot of customs bought by one person!!

Or...Butterick "Slow and Confuzzeling" #B5019

May I just add, it was Norah's turn to say family prayers tonight and she thanked God for her "new outfits". I'll remember that when she's a know-it-all teenager!!!

P7283626.jpg

Great job! I love that she mentioned her outfits in her prayers--makes every stitch worth it! Seems like you learned a lot. We all have to remember to teach our daughters/sons to sew--I wish someone had taught me!!

I read somewhere = if you can tilt your machine a tad bit UP in front = it can help with that. So, that you don't have to slump to see.

When I was pregnant, I could hardly sew it hurt so bad to sit there like that ...
I raised my worktables a bit, lowered my sewing chair + got a couple spot-light work lamps.
Wow! that helped TONS :)
That was 5 years ago & I still have them that way. :)

I am 37 weeks and still trying to put a few outfits together for my DD for halloween/thanksgiving but I don't get too far--my feet are swelling so much when I sit or stand too long! I have managed to read the laptop from an odd angle while laying down--but I don't think I can manage sewing that way!! :rotfl: I'm afraid I won't have much time to sew once the new baby arrives. Luckily, I am still months (and months) away from our next Disney trip!
I'll have to try some of the above tips for prego sewers!

Here is my latest outfits for my girls and the bag I made to match.
disboutique018.jpg

I just love the school fabric. You did a great job on the dress and matching bag. Lucky girl to get such a nice machine! Try searching online for the manual. I am sure you can find it someplace. Might be worth figuring out what all those stitches can do!

Ok, to multi-quote--on the bottom right hand side of a post, you will see four small boxes. First is Edit, quote, then multi-quote. If you click on it, it will turn red. Then, go to the next post you want to quote and do the same. Then, after you are all done, click "Post Reply" at the end of the thread (on the left hand side) and a box will all the posts will be in your reply box. If you don't want to use every pic or part of the message, I just delete what I don't want until the [/QUOTE]. Then, add your message/reply. Just do a "preview post" to make sure you did it right. It's much easier than my wordy message here. Give it a try!

Great work everyone! LadyRob, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Love those Back to School dresses! Where did you find the fabric? I'm teaching kindergarten this year, and I'm looking for some school-ish fabric for the windows in my classroom. I really didn't like any of the school-themed fabric at our local Hobby Lobby - the colors were wrong or the fabric was more about "teaching" rather than "school", if that makes sense. I haven't been to Wal-Mart or our Hancock's yet.

Oh, and everyone's creations are simply stunning!

Has anyone ever made decoupage jeans? I am wanting to have some made for Halloween, but I don't know where to start. Any help? Thanks!

I love all of the latest outfits!!!
My sewing machine is a Husqvarna Designer SE. It sews beautifully as well as embroiders. The first picture shows the machine w/out the embroidery module-the second has it.This machine's regular stitches are the best that I've ever experienced sewing and I have a Janome MemoryCraft, a Bernina Artista, and a Pfaff.

My embroidery only machine is a Brother PE 750 Disney. It came with Disney designs built in but there are tons of both Disney and other
designs that can be purchased.

I would definetley either tell your daughter she has to wear the dress{shes 6 ,wait till shes 14:eek: ]or coax her{bribe}:rolleyes1 whatever works. and when she starts getting compliments from people she will change her mind. get her some cute jewelry to match or sandals. Good luck .Its just beginning

you all make such amazing outfits!

i'm inspired to learn how to sew now! any advice for beginners? i have no kids to sew for (except maybe some cousins) but i could totally use curtains for my new apartment! any suggestions (books or websites to go to for learning the basics?) thanks!

Here is the sewing machine I use. It is a hand me down that my dad bought for my step mom thinking that she should be able to sew since my mom can. Well, needless to say, not all women can sew and my step mom gave it to me. My dad believes that the more "things" on anything must be better so this machine has 116 different stiches. I think I've used about 10 of them. I lost the manuel so I don't know all that it can do. I know it can embroider with memory card but don't know where those are either. But it does what I need it to and it was free which is always a bonus.

Also for those wanting to try applique work, try it first on denim, this was MUCH easier than on a t-shirt.

Everyone has done such great work. If anyone can tell me how to multi quote I would appreciate it. I want to comment on everything but don't want to take up a whole page. Everyone has been busy.

These are adorable!! I'm just finishing the same dres with the same maaterial! I love the bag. Can you tell me what pattern you used for the dreses? I haven't found one yet that I love and I'm liking yours!

Okay, saw this material on ebay, and I am NEEDING it. Has anyone ever seen this? I am a huge Disney and Horse fan, I can't believe that I have missed this. Well I'm on a mission. Need this fabric!!! (to sit next to the other fabric I "needed" in my closet!):lmao:
FurDisneyPrincessFlannel003.jpg

I saw them putting it out in JoAnne Fabrics about 2 weels ago. It's flannel.

Yep and they are SUPER easy!!!! I did them b/f trying applique. The only challenge is figuring out the fabrics and how you want them to lay and layer.

So that I would have room to play, I fused Wonder-under to larger pieces of fabric. Then I decided what shapes I wanted them to be and cut them out. I started with the larger basic pieces, fused the on, sewed about 1/4" away from the edge and then filled in with the other fabrics in the same process.

I am away from home right now, but when I get home, I'll take pictures of what I did. I did a pair of jeans and also a jean jacket (in the same fabrics, but not to wear together) and then a peasant top to match. I love the decoupage method!! You have no edges to worry about b/c you WANT them to fray.

I'll be back home Wednesday. I'll take pics then.

Until then, these are the Minnie overalls I did with that method... (I've shared them b/f, but so you don't have to go look for them...)

Someone was talking about custom autograph books. These are two that I made for a friend after I made some for my kids. I don't have pics of my kids with me... I can take pics of the Buzz Lightyear and Tink ones I did for my kids once I get home.

I searched how to make decoupage jeans and this popped up "decoupage jeans fusible applique technique". This was from a site to buy the directions, however, I would say that if you can use fusible products, then it's that easy. Just choose the fabrics, cut the fabric in shapes to make an interesting collage and fuse them to the jeans. It basically looks like a crazy patch design. Now,that I saw the method,I'm going to make them for my nieces!

I got fed up with just sewing out of a roll-out/fold-away-desk ...
so, I took over an "extra" room ... :)
It was small, so it got filled up very fast ...
I got fed up again.
I emptied the room, made new desks & shelves, put it all back ...
NOW, it's fine. =)
I just hope we don't have to move anytime soon! ;)

I got all of these back to school fabrics at Joann's just recently. There is also a black with random captial letters scattered to match. I bought 4 different ones and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them since the girls only need 1 back to school outfit. I thought about making bags for their new teachers but who knows. Happy Teaching.

I didn't use a pattern. I just took measurements of my daughter from armpit to armpit and then around the ches/waist area and went from there. If you want to try it I will give you more detailed instructions if you PM me, but I'm sure there is probably a similar pattern out there.

Here is my version of the poodle skirt. I think it came out pretty good. But I do wish I had left the overskirt a little longer. Can't say I enjoyed making Pluto!! But I made it through. Went with Grey because MomMom wore a grey poodle when she was a teen. While I made it, Mom kept telling me that was not a poodle skirt!! I told her it's the new, updated version. I think I'll have Kirsta wear it to MGM, I should see if we can get an ADR at the 50's resturant.

We'll be having dinner in Cinderella's Castle. We usually have a "special" dress. I think this one is one of my favorites. I got the pattern off EBAY it's from about 5 or more years ago. It's really heavy to carry, but she loves it. I want to make a special embroidered hair bow. Pretty white shoes. The sleeves and back of this dress are really pretty. I couldn't get her let it hand straight for anything. Great twirling!!
