so, i am up to page 5 reading the pages of this thread, but not enough patience, so i will post then go back to reading. i am hunting for a pattern for mary poppins dress. i had posted somewhere else, and it was recommended i try the expert sewing of the boutique thread. I have a wonderful friend who can sew anything with a pattern, but i can't find one anywhere. i can't even sew on a button button so i am extremly impressed with everything i have seen on here!!! thanks!

I see that you're doing the Mickey next year. I'm signed up for the Donald but have I trained lately? Nope! I'm either on this board, sewing, or at the fabric store during my free time. I have to get moving soon though. January will be here before you know it. Keep movin' forward! :thumbsup2

Good luck on your 2008 races!! I did Goofy this year and had a blast! Not only did I survive doing both the half and the full (in 80+ temps) but I had my best times ever. I would love to be there in '08, but am expecting my first child this December. I keep hearing rumor of maybe a new half in the spring to replace the Minni-Marathon??? If so, I hope to be there!

In TeresaJoy's siggy there is a link to patterns. Try there. I think it is in the OP siggy now as well.

I took a few pictures while I was making the ruffle so you could see how it works. I'm sorry I can't remember who was asking but I thought some photos might help

This picture shows the two rows of stitching and I pinned it to the skirt right sides together. Then I stitch it on.

THis shows how I fold the ruffle down and then stitch again over the top.

This is what the back looks like when it is finished. You could trim it with pinking shears too.

I do mine almost the same way. I sew the ruffle on, and then zig zag over the raw edge, then I topstitch to hold the raw edge down.

I haven't been on the board for the last few days because I have been busily sewing!! I had been looking for a pattern to make matching father/son boutique outfits. When my sister posted the pattern for the men's jumpsuit, I knew I had found the perfect matching outfits! I disneyed them up , added some yellow crocs, and ta-da!!! As you can see, DH and DS LOVE their new outfits!!

I guess I'll see ya'll at Marathon Weekend, too. I signed up for the Donald, too, and like you, LadyRob, I need to get moving. I think I have been out MAYBE a handful of times since the Minnie in May. I was going to do the Run For the Taste, but now our cruise gets back the day before that, so I don't think that will work.

Good Luck!! It is such a memorable experience and a great weekend at WDW!

OMG...that is much too funny! I just about spit my coffee out when I saw that! :rotfl: :lmao:

I did not say I was going to post it but here is the one I made. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

How darling!! Alice is one of my favorite characters. I found the *exact* pattern for the dress you see Alice wearing at the parks-kiddie size. It's a vintage one and you don't see it too often, so I sntached it even though the smallest size is 3 and my daughter is only just about 1. I'll just add it to the stash until then.

Look at the historical costume patterns. They won't have one with Mary Poppins on the package like you see for some of the princesses, and the picture will likely show different fabrics--but you're looking for the *style* of the dress, not the actual dress itself. Sometimes the pictures throw people off. You'll probably find something pretty close.

OOH pockets! Now you are getting all fancy on us! They look great!

:rotfl2: I know! There is no stoppin' me now.

If you don't want to applique, there are some great Cars designs on the Creative DISigns board. I made one (using that same shirt, I think) for a friend of mine's ds bday. You don't have to have one with his name, but the DISigners over there are wonderful and very helpful!

I've been over there but hadn't thought to combine an iron-on tee with the shorts. I think it came out great! Thanks for posting the pic.

Here is a pic of the cinderella dresses I made my girls.

I am having a problem with the ties on the one dress not staying tight and the top falling to show to much chest. Any advice?

Cute dresses! I'm not sure if this will work for you, but maybe it's an idea (someone from this thread recommended it to me.) Maybe you could try square-knots instead of bows. I did it on my pillowcase dress (see below) and it seems to work well and still looks cute.:

If, like me, you don't know how to tie a square-knot, here are the instructions I was given.
-- Put the left tie over the right tie, then tuck under
-- Then put the right tie over the left tie, tuck under and pull tight.

Good luck.

For Mary Poppins try Simplicity 9723. Would this work?
