I have got to say that I LOVE everything on this thread, from the newbies to the veterans, but this has got to be my FAVORITE! I like something more non mickey looking and this fits my taste perfect! GREAT job and creativity!

Thanks for all the compliments. :) I was a little nervous posting this outfit since its no-sew, but you all have given me a little boost in confidence THANKS!! :thumbsup2

I LOVE everything about this outfit!!! Super fab! If you want to sell it after your DD outgrows it PM me!

Here's what I did with the Mickey swirl fabric. I DON'T sew, so this is as good as it gets!! DD is in the pool with DH so maybe I'll post pics. with her wearing it later. I plan on making matching bows too. We're going in February so jeans won't be too hot!

Okay guys, how many of you have taken your child to WDW wearing custom outfits and what was the response to your child being dressed up? I had asked this earlier, but at the pace we post on this thread, it's already way behind.

Also I had asked about older children and boutique outfits and someone did say that their child would be. I have been making coordinating outfits for my girls and a couple of little boys that will be going.

Also how many custom disboarders will be there in September?

Okay ladies, here is the next item in my Knock-Off Boutique. :rolleyes1 The original was posted by obsessedwiththemouse. I have to give a big thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas and pictures. I'm not very good at coming up with my own designs but that is my next challenge. I plan to brainstorm tomorrow while I tackle that 12 hour shift.

The Minnie ears look a little warped in the picture but that's just how the dress is hanging. I wish I could post pics of DD in the outfit but I've promised DH I would not post pics of the kids anymore.

Great job!! Love the set...

I haven't yet because I've only had boys in the past. We brought our dd home in November. She has worn customs around town and always been a hit.

We'll be there in September, the 11-16!

We are going in September, the 21st - 29th. Look for the little boy with shorts and matching tees, or overalls or something! Who knows! Right now all I have are his old Peter Pan overalls and his Cars and Monsters outfit, but those are both long sleeves and pants!

Tons of people walking would look at his outfit and the comment to whomever they were with or point it out. Not many actually said anything to me. During the parade, alot of characters came over and pointed, Snow White in particular spoke and said, how darling, did you make that.

I only ever had one outfit per trip before, never thought to have one for everyday. Last time I did have one for 2 days, mainly because I had made him a cars one for his birthday the month before.

I tend to sew the week before leave for him, so who knows what he'll end up with!

Very inventive! I think they are very cute! :cutie:

KeepMovingForward, Thank You!

The girls loved them and they can't wait for the outfits I make for Disney World. I'm going to try twirl skirts to the theme of AK first. I'll post my progress or my "lack thereof"!

Send pixie dust my way...

Wow, this thread is moving quickly today! Great customs, everyone.

I had customs for my DD everyday at Disney last year. They either coordinated to the park or meal we were attending. My DD received LOTS of attention from the CMs, other guests, and the characters. I had tons of people stop me and ask where we bought the outfits. I even had people stop me and tell they remembered my DD from the day before at a different park! My favorite was when we saw Minnie in front of the MK. My DD had on a Minnie-themed outfit, bows, painted shoes, and jewelry. Minnie made a huge (silent) deal over my DD. Minnie then walked her over to Mickey (who was greeting kids in his own line), tapped her foot to get his attention, and made Mickey take a look at her. They both made a big deal over her, and it was a priceless moment! Things like this happened with a lot of the characters, and it made the trip even more fun! Definitely expect some attention when the kiddos are in cute custom outfits!

We will be in Disney from September 7th-15th staying at the Polynesian. I will definitely have custom outfits for each day of our trip (and 2 for some days!). I just can't help myself!:rotfl:

My daughter (6 going on 16) was looking at this page with me and said, how old is that girl. When I read further and found out she was 6, I told her and her reply was, "see, 6 year olds don't wear hairbows like 5 year olds do!"
I have been pointing out the pretty girls with the big bows and she is tired of it!

My dd7 loves hairbows! The bigger the better and she will be in 2nd grade next year. Am I lucky or what?

Here are pics of one outfit that has been my most popular for the little ladies.

She's worn it out a lot and my mom teases that she's my best advertising. We went to a summer solstice fair yesterday and I gave my info out nonstop.

I've done bed size toddler quilts in boys & girls themes with NBC as well.

Where oh where did you get this fabric? I love the Jack fabric! It's my fav NBC outfit yet!

Wow! There are a lot of us going in September, aren't there?

We just got back from a 2 wk FL trip (1 week Disney) last month with the whole family, including DH, me, DD4 and DS2.

Just me and DD4 are going back for a short trip Sept.21-24. I am returning for the sole reason of redoing pics. Our camera was stolen on our trip and I lost all the pics of my kids' 1st trip to WDW! :sad2: I would say 90% of the pics were of my DD in her outfits and with the princesses. Returning just with her will be a lot easier than with DS2, especially since it is just me going this time - hubby is staying home.

I had custom outfits for both kids for all 5 days we were in the parks. When I return with DD, we will only be doing 3 days of parks so I will have to choose among the outfits. Either that, or she could wear 2 different outfits for day and evening.

Yes, we did get attention in the parks, mostly from CMs although occasionally the odd person would comment. A lot of admiring glances and 1 or 2 people actually took my kids' pics which was a little uncomfortable actually!

As mentioned, you would not know it from this thread or from the popularity of the boutique/customs on ebay, but there were very few kids with Disney outfits in the parks, at least that I saw in May. Lots of nice custom t-shirts but next to no outfits. So my kids really stood out.

At the risk of opening another can of worms, I have to say that I was quite frankly surprised at how little thought and effort most people spent on dressing their kids for Disney. Obviously no one on this thread! We are the opposite, some might say obsessive, extreme.

My thought is, you are going to have countless photos of your kids in the parks and will be looking at these pics for years to come. Wouldn't you want them to be dressed nice?

I completely understand that not everyone can sew and not everyone can afford a custom/boutique outfit.

However, I personally found that the vast majority of kids (and we know not all these families are pinching pennies) were dressed in what I would consider play clothes. But I guess each to their own - probably many parents consider that play clothes are the perfect attire for spending a day in an amusement park!!! And they are probably right!

I will take full responsibility for being completely neurotic about how I want my kids to be dressed in WDW! I am just glad that this thread proves I can't be the only one!!

Wow! That must have been a fantastic interaction! What a great added perk of custom clothes!

I am about to suggest something that I can't even think about doing until school starts in August, but so many people periodically request patterns that we have linked or just described. Like the free patterns on twirl skirts, ruffled socks, or how-to-gather tips.

It would be nice of someone to go through and collate them all and write something on the first page. This could be really useful. I have seen this kind of thing done on the room views thread or the pictures of Disney food thread.

Any takers? I feel really guilty for suggesting this as I am busy with 3 kids home from school plus a little boy I babysit in the summer.

LOL I've never done boutique or even homemade, (which is more my price range :rotfl2:), before. For DS we usually dressed him in store-bought disney t-shirts and shorts. Last year was DD's first trip to WDW. She didn't have any disney stuff, so I dressed her in Gymboree.

My mom was, at first, surprised that I'd dress her nice (risk getting it dirty), but in the end she decided I was one smart cookie. Pretty much everything I took was from one line, so everything mixed and matched. ;)

Now I've got to get sewing. My DS, who will be 7 for our trip in December, has said that he will wear clothes that match his sister if I make him button-up hawaiian shirts. I'm afraid to try...but they would look cute in coordinating clothes, wouldn't they? ;)

:thanks:
The Ice Cream dress is just a halter style pillowcase dress, no pattern. For the gauchos, I used a capri pattern and widened the legs. Does that make sense?

ive made a few pillow case dresses. could you explain how to do the halter style? thanks! id love to try one!

Oh! I haven't looked at this thread since we decided in January to go to WDW!!

Now I'm thinking AGH!!! I've got to learn how to sew so I can make some cute stuff for my DDs!! I can sew a straight line, and can do those fleece ponchos and hats, but.......!

Good thing I have 6 months or so!!!

My DSIL was here last year, and an awesome seamstress, and we bought Newlook Easy pattern for kids - 6478 which is their dresses, and then she even went through all of the patterns and picked out 2 of the easiest patterns for me!

I think my problem is mostly that I lack the imagination to come up with these ideas that you ladies have come up with!!!

For instance, we are going to Hoop de do in Dec. Any ideas on what kind of outfit I can put together for that? Too bad we are not going to the BBQ - THAT outfit was so darn cute!

I also really like the white shirt/jeans with the retro fabric that was "glued" on!! Too cute!

Thanks ladies!
Lisa

This is my first attempt at my version of the tulle twirl skirt - don't even ask me how I did it, I still don't know

I figure, for the one day they will be wearing them in the park, it's good enough!!!
