My DD got upset that she wasn't in the pictures that I posted so here she is...

Just like someone else suggested, she will be wearing this on the plane and when we check in at POP!!!! I hadn't thought of making myself a matching pair, but now I might have to!!!
I can't wait to get some matching ribbon to make some hairbows!

I made these ribbon capris to go with the leopard print minnie shirt I got from e-bay. I love how these turned out. I'm going to make some shorts for 4th of July!

Although these are overalls, you could always do jean shorts and a tee with these designs.

Happy sewing!

Love these shoes. I wouldn't mind doing a pair of these for myself.

Down in the bottom corner where the quick response and the quote buttons are is where you do it. The one with the quote marks is what you click. It will highlite red as you choose it. Just keep going along and clicking till you get to the last one you want then on that one click the Qoute button too. Hope that makes sense. PPSSSTT!!...dont feel bad, took me about 3 months of posting to figure it out on my own. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the instructions. This is my first try. Of course after almost 20 pages of clicking quotes, I hope I can remember what outfit fits what quote. Please forgive me if I get it wrong. This board has been extremely busy though the past 24 hours or so. Yikes!!

I like this a lot. I love the white on blue dots with the Pooh fabric, and I love that your older dd outfit coordinates but is definitely not too young. Can't wait to see the top when it's back from the embroiderer's.

Okay here is my second attempt with my new found confidence!:woohoo: I'm quite happy with it except for the sizing of the pants. The pattern was a 1-2-3 size, and I think it was designed for diapers, because it's a bit poofy in the crotch. I attempted to alter it, with some success, but after I put the waistband in, I was not going to take it out to fix it right. Anyway, lesson learned. Trim down all patterns for my skinny girl!

June120.jpg

I think you did a great job. I'm very impressed -- especially with the pleated ruffle. I would never have the patience to do all that pleating, and you really did a nice job. Congratulations!!

ETA: I'm having trouble cutting the fabric, but I didn't have any trouble slicing through my finger with the darn thing!

Ouch!! I hope it is going better now. I didn't use my rotary cutter for quite awhile after I bought it. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Now I use it for almost everything.

I guess the only little one in our group is my nephew who is now 21 months (who will officially be adopted as our SON on June 28th).

Congratulations!!! I still hope and pray that dh will one day agree to adopt. Of course, I've been hoping and praying for over 10 years now. Oh well.... I'm learning patience if nothing else.

What do you girls think of this set for my son for our Backyard BBQ? (I haven't made it yet, this is just an idea)

I think the overalls match perfectly with the dress. I have to say that your BBQ dress has been one of my favorites on the entire thread. I mean they're all great, but I have always liked this one. In fact, I found some fabric in my stash and have been inspired to try something similar. Here's the fabric. I don't have a lot of the white dots on red left, but it does seem to fit with this fabric.
CIMG0112.jpg

I made my DD a jasmine costume this weekend. I wanted something comfy that doesn't expose the tummy.... I think the coins really "make it".

I like the Jasmine outfit. My dd wanted one, too, but also didn't want her tummy exposed. I made this last year. I hot glued the embellishments on, and it hasn't held up well, so please excuse that.

I also like the lanyard autgraph purses. I may have to steal (umm... I mean borrow) this idea if you don't mind. I made these bags for my dd's (now 7) 4th birthday party. I made the bags and cut out all the felt and stuff. The kids glued them on. It was a great party activity and made a great goody bag for the pinata goodies, etc. The girls have destroyed it but still won't let me throw it out even almost 4 years later. It is a drawstring bag and was my first attempt at making a bag. It never occured to me to put strapping on it and make it a lanyard as well. Good job.

CIMG0114.jpg

Ok Girls! I have 3 outfits to share.

Very nice. Like others, I particularlly like the ice cream dress. However, I LOVE the bow you made to go with it, and I'm not really a big bow person. Nice work. I still can't believe you are doing all this by hand.

I'm still rusty and have a long way to go...but I wanted to share with you my girls latest outfits. They were flowers in their school play right before the end of the year. Not too bad without a pattern?

Not too shabby at all. In fact, quite nice, I'd say. Can't wait to see the Disney outfits.

Ok, I have decided to take a stab at a twirl skirt for my daughter for the 4th of July. There is an e-book with patterns and instructions on that YCMT website but it's $12.95, which seems kind of steep. I was going to go to Joann's tonight to look at patterns there and see if there is an easy one for less.
I don't know if you bought this pattern yet, but the twirl skirt directions are floating around cyberspace for free. I know I have posted them on here before and so have a couple of others. I didn't save my link though. I'm sure if you just google twirl skirt instructions, you'll find it. I also think it is posted on a sewing forum -- "what's-sew-new" or something like that. If I can find it again, I'll post a link for you.

and my dd's coordinating outfits!
IMG_4233.jpg

Love 'em. I almost bought this fabric, but just couldn't figure out what to do with it. Glad to see someone came up with something so cute.

do you think this is tooo hot for july? the pink and black tulle look cute. the dark pink shirt made the skirt look more red
IMG_2291.jpg

Very cute. I don't think the black would be too hot. I think a black tank with a Mickey head icon in rhinestones would be very cute.

Here's what I did with the Mickey swirl fabric. I DON'T sew, so this is as good as it gets!! DD is in the pool with DH so maybe I'll post pics. with her wearing it later. I plan on making matching bows too. We're going in February so jeans won't be too hot!
IMG_1201.jpg

Oh my word!!! I love this, and will copy it shamelessly. With your permission, of course. I bought this fabric this past spring and just haven't been able to figure out what to do with it. This is perfect though. Both my 7 AND 5 yo really liked it, too. Very nice.

My question is do you think I should put some embellisments on it? Like a ribbon, etc.? I am still a beginner sewer so have not moved on to more advanced things yet but I hope to work towards that.

IMG_0786.jpg

I like it as is, but I do think some trim right where the bodice is attached to the skirt would be lovely and would help break up the pattern. Like I said though, it is great as is.

For instance, we are going to Hoop de do in Dec. Any ideas on what kind of outfit I can put together for that? Too bad we are not going to the BBQ - THAT outfit was so darn cute!

Thanks ladies!
Lisa

Couldn't anything that works for the Backyard BBQ also work for the HDDR? Truth be told. We haven't been to either, so I really don't know.

I have a question about doing an applique. How do you do this? Do you trace and cut what you want to do, then apply to the material and sew around it?

How do you apply it to the material?
What kind of stitch do you use to sew around the edges?

What is the simplest way to try this and see if a total idiot can do it?

Tink, have you gotten those instructions yet? I can't wait to see what you do. With your flare, I know it will be great regardless.

Look what you all have done to me! I think I can actually sew, my home ec. teacher would have been so proud!!

I think you can sew, too. Nice job.

Hi,
This isn't Disney related, but I was inspired by this thread. It is my first attempt at an applique.

Good job. We used to love Calliou over here, too. You're right about that big ole head though. Maybe I could practice on the Backyardigans. My youngest really likes them right now, and I think they'd be pretty easy, too.

I'm nearly 40 years old and I am thinking about making something similar for myself if I can find the fabric! :lmao:

I'm over 40, and I'm thinking of making one of these for me, too. :rotfl:

First, I've just tried the applique stitch myself for the first time using a zig zag and it worked just fine.

I think so, too. I actually have this fabric, too. (See, i've told ya'll I have a huge fabric stash. I was going to use it almost exactly the same way. My plans are to make some long cargo type shorts. (blue, with a lime green stripe down the side and yellow piping) I was also wanting to make a camp type shirt out of the Surfin' Mickey print. However, I don't have enough. I have about a yard, so I was thinking of doing just 1 side of the shirt in this print and doing the rest in the same blue as the shorts. I also found a yellow t-shirt in near perfect condition, so I thought I'd applique a Mickey head on it with the Surfin' Mickey fabric. That way the shorts could be worn with either shirt or both and the camp shirt left open. What do you think? Of course, I don't even have a boy, so I don't know why I'd even try this. Maybe I'll ebay it when I'm done. Anyway, this is all the fabrics together. Nothing is even cut out yet. I just folded them to see how the shorts would look if I did it.
CIMG0113.jpg

Emma fell at the softball park, so she has a boo-boo on her nose and upper lip... and she just got out of the tub, so she's not at her best!

Nice work. I hope your little model is doing better. Cute outfits and adorable models.

That's my next challenge. I just need to get to the fabric store to pick out some good prints...without kids saying "oooh, mommy, look at this!" and "can we go home yet?" (two different kids.) ;)

This sounds like me. The fabric store is my escape. I could spend hours in there. My girls are getting somewhat better. However, I still prefer to go alone.

Well, that's it. I hope this looooong post made sense. I tried to cut out as much as I thought I could. If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me. Of course, 40 more posts have probably been added since I started writing mine. :rotfl: I hope to finish the RnRC outfit today, but I am unsure of what is next. It was going to be the boy's outfit I mentioned earlier, but I found those water-absorbing crystals at the store yesterday. I think I am going to make some cooling neck ties. Our church is having a men's fellowship/workday on Saturday, and it is HOT around here. Thought I'd make up a dozen or so of these and let them use them to do their work. Help keep them cool. Of course, I don't think these grown men want to wear them if I make them out of Disney Princess fabric. Hey, does this mean I have an excuse to go to the fabric store yet again. :lmao:

Have a great day everyone. Keep up the good work.

Okay, so I managed the multi quote thing, but why is my post so wide? What did I do and what can I do to make it the smaller size? Thanks.

Aww...thank you! I love the BBQ dress too. Good luck in creating one of your own! Looks like you're off to a good start with the fabrics!

I am currently overwhelmed by the thought of quoting every post I would like to, so to all of you who posted outfits/clothing in the past 2 days, way to go! Everything is adorable, keep on sharing!

Dena

Ok I finished the skirt! I am so happy with myself. Now I thought I would appliqué some stars to match on the t-shirt but now that I see it I think a red t-shirt would look a lot better. I am attempting to post the pictures:

100_1484.jpg

100_1486.jpg

I was thinking of making a scrunchie to go with it, but I think a covered plastic headband might stay in her hair better. Any ideas?

2cutekidz: I love what you did! I saw the swirl fabric at JoAnn's when I bought the fireworks fabric and almost bought some but I didn't want to get ahead of myself. If I can finish this outfit I will go back and see if it's still there.

Thanks for all the ideas and encouragement!

Okay ladies, here is the next item in my Knock-Off Boutique. :rolleyes1 The original was posted by obsessedwiththemouse. I have to give a big thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas and pictures. I'm not very good at coming up with my own designs but that is my next challenge. I plan to brainstorm tomorrow while I tackle that 12 hour shift.

The Minnie ears look a little warped in the picture but that's just how the dress is hanging. I wish I could post pics of DD in the outfit but I've promised DH I would not post pics of the kids anymore.

minnie001.jpg

Wow!! I LOVE this. Great work LadyRob! This is darling and your little princess will treasure it! I may have to make a knock-off of your knock-off:rotfl:

I can't believe it--I was gone for the weekend and I came back to more than 25 pages to catch up on. How is that possible?! I can't help myself, but there's been some darling outfits posted since I left and I don't want to miss anything (my poor kiddos today:sad2: )

WOW! I have been looking at all of these outfits and I am so jealous of all you talent!! It is a talent I wish I had since these outfits are so neat!!

I can not sew at all! I have been searching and all the ones on ebay are so expensive!! I guess that is because of the talent and time that is put into them! Last year I made shirts with iron on designs I got on another section from this board.... I was so proud of justthat and look at all you guys can do!!

Anyway .....any ideas for someone who can not sew at all? Any place I can buy soem of these cute outfits for a reasonable price or maybe eveninstructions for some things I can make without sewing?

In the mean time I need to look into getting some lessons, but I never even put a button on!!!

ANy ideas for me?

QUESTION: Has anyone used that hotstick tool that applies iron-on rhinestones? I was going to get one with my Hobby Lobby coupon. I found an ebay seller that sells the rhinestones, but I'm wondering if the tool really works.

I have this tool and it does work. However, it is time consuming and the most of the crystals fall off after you wash it. My DD is a competitive cheerleader and cheerleaders like to sparkle :cheer2: so I have found that there is a gem glue at Michael’s (I am sure hobby lobby also) that keeps them on much better. There is nothing worse than spending a ton of time affixing gems to have them fall off the after the first wash and wear. The glue keeps them on a lot longer. Hope this helps.

I started with a dress from WalMart- red with white polka dots ( you can see several things people have done with them on this thread) then I started seeing cute stuff that could be "Disney-fied" everywhere! A cute red skirt with a white tee and embellished with ribbons and an iron on Mickey head would be pretty no- sew as well. I have seen cute animal print dresses that would be adorable for AK- and again just add a Disney touch ( the embroidered Disney stickers from places like Hobby Lobby are great too- they are fabric but stick to the outfit like a sticker- they would just need a little fabric glue or whatever to make them more secure).

Thank you! I was going to get the gem glue but thought it might be messy. It is a much cheaper investment, however, so I think I'll go for it.

You Can do it! I haven't attempted to sew in years and this thread has so motivated me!!!

I am practicing sewing Mickey heads on paper and am doing really well with the exception of the inside of the left ear moving down to the top of the head and up the right ear?

Any tips from you awesome ladies?

Thx!:goodvibes

IMG_1221.jpg

Do you have instructions on how you did the ribbon capris without sewing? Those are so cute and I'd love to try it but have no idea where to start.

No instructions, but here's what I did:
- I made the ribbon loops by cutting 4 in. strips from various ribbons (I varied the ribbon widths) and gluing the tips together.
- I cut ribbon to the length of the bottom of the jeans (it was 12 in. for her capris) - a little shorter is ok
Attatch the ribbon loops to the ribbon strip with glue (I used a glue gun)
- I then glued the strip of ribbon (now with loops) to the inside hem of the jeans - use the exsisting stitches as a guide to get it on straight.
- I finished it off by gluing the leopard print ribbon on the outside hem.
Hope this makes sense, i've been in the sun all day and am getting a little loopy!!! :cool2:

How did you do the shirt? I love it!!! I am a No Sew kinda gal, so to hear it is possible to do a mickey head shirt without sewing makes me :yay:

We're pretty much stuck with shorts and shirts for my son. We're in the potty training phase and I don't even want to think about dealing with shortalls/jon jons when he HAS to go!

Wish there was an eaiser way to find the few boys outfits posted. 221 pages is too much to dig through!

I went and bought 10 yards of Mickey fabric (I thought it was SO cute!)

to make shirts for our entire group and DH said he HATED the fabric and refused to wear it, so now I'm stuck trying to sell it on ebay. uggh.
1281_1.JPG

He was only in mild agreement to wear the shirts I plan on making with this blue check Mickey fabric.
248f_1.JPG

Our group will be me, DH, DS(2 {almost 3}) and some friends - mom, DD(18), DD(15), DD(11)

Any suggestions for matching/coordinating outfits would be appreciated!

And, if anyone knows where I can get gender neutural Mickey fabric for a low price (remember, I need 8 - 10 yards! ouch!) I'd love to know!

How about a polo shirt in a coordinating color for DH? I am not sure mine would wear one either, although he is pretty good about things like that.

I used Aleene's OK to wash it on the shirt and the mickey heads on the jeans. The last time I was near a sewing machine was in the early 90's when my mom made my homecoming dress - never touched one myself!!!
