Any Creations For Us Adults Or Teenage Daughters, The Shirt Robnchris Did Is Adorable, Might Make One For My Daughter, Any Other Suggestions Or Designs. I Thought About Making My On Disney Tote For Our Upcoming Trip, Saw A Nice Black Tote Bag At My Local Mart Type Store And Was Thinking How To Make It A Mickey Style Bag.....any Ideas,, Found Some Mickey Iron On Appliques At Wal-mart And Mich Use Them. Will Take Suggestions From All Of You Creative Disers Thanks

I have a 13 year old DD and we are trying to come up with some Villain type things. We have ideas but haven't really done them yet. Here is a shirt I made that is supposed to be Cruella but I have to add some final touches to it. It's WAY too big on DD yet but she picked out the pattern, so at least the style is something an older child would like. Right now we are also trying to get a High School Musical outfit together since we are going to go see that on ice in January. We have the pattern, just need to get the fabric & decide what we want to put on it.

This was posted before so it doesn't need to be added to our list of pictures :)

This is the frontside (the backside has a ribbon tie which I used pawprints for) eventually I'll finish this completely and post it but I have gotten started on other projects first. It didn't turn out correctly though so ignore the puckering in the front -- those are supposed to be VVV type bottom but I couldn't get the directions to work -- it was my first attempt. I will be re-doing it & altering to make it look better.

In addition, I know my DD would really like some sarcastic sayings for the Villains but I would have to do an iron-on for that but I'm not a fan of iron on stuff (which I've seen the stuff the design board does here! Fantastic work, just would prefer other ways if I can get it done).

I don't know if that helps but just a different twist on the outfits.

She's probably been up all night working on my Jojo set.:rotfl2:

I can't get this to work consistently....it seems that if you post a response then it considers the page where your response is to be your last page...but sheesh, I'm still READING page 338 here, and yet the response will end up on page 365 or something, so it always lost pages which I didn't discover until I realized I had no clue what ya'll are talking about and had to go back to look, lol.

It took me awhile to figure out that that's what it did too.

Ok, who else read this and immediately thought....use the pillowcase, make him a pillowcase dress?

Yep...it's official....I'm weird. :confused3

Actually, that's what I thought she was going to say!

;)DH says he doesn't like the idea of Ariel with the ric rac, but I am thinking... I might not care what he likes :lmao:

Oh, don't listen to him! What do men know about Princesses? :rotfl: I am always asking my hubby for fashion advice, but I don't know why. He grew up in the 70's for pete's sake! :lmao: Not the ever fashion forward 80's like me!!!:rotfl2: (If I could find it, I would put a copy of my 8th grade picture right here, just so you could see my lovely frizz perm, ginormous glasses and veluor shirt)

Here is some of the fabric i bought at Walmart a couple of days ago

I want to make a dress maybe out of these two fabrics. I was thinking maybe a stripwork dress, and on the front cut out the animal/letters that are my daughters initials? The stripe coordinates very well. I bought 5 yards of this. I am thinking about making her a quilt out of this as well. It's stunning in person!

I am so excited about this, bought five yards, haven't the slightest clue what to do with it!!!!

I love the stripe! Guess I'm off to Walmart today!

What about using the stripe for inspiration? Pull all the colors from it and make the skirt, then use the stripe for a ruffle at the bottom.

Okay, I'm supposed to be working..but I started searching online for patterns cause I just am NOT happy w/ anything from the main pattern companies for girls just now.. I found some European companies and am having "i need that pattern" convulsions. NOw I just have to figure out how to do the whole European pattern thing, seems like a pain in the but what with the tracing and figuring out the seem allowances and all.
Not to mention I haven't really been sewing too long.
...t.

Well I am talking more like the blue outfit on the right of the pattern/ Its a halter tie at the back of the neck, but goes all the way down to the ankles in one piece. Thanks for the pattern , at least that is a start!

I looked through my pattern stash, and found this. So, I thought I would share!

So, just enlarge these little pictures and change the top to a halter, and there you go!

I thought I'd also share this little gem!

I've seen it at the local Hancocks for a lot less a yard though, so check there if you have one nearby. If not..... do a search for Treasure Hunting & Pirate fabric....also found it under Pirate's Cove fabric though it's even more expensive, lol. I tried to look at Hancock's website, but 10 minutes later it's still not finishing opening....think they're having problems, lol.

Lordy...considering what it's going for on ebay, I'm thinking I ought to start buying this stuff by the bolt when I see it. Maybe it could at least offset my own fabric bills!

Please, please, please help me with a waistband. This is what I did. I made a skirt. I don’t know if it’s a strip skirt. I’ve seen that term on this thread. My skirt has 3 different fabrics that I sewed together side-by-side. Light pink – Pooh – dark pink – Pooh – light pink – Pooh – dark pink – Pooh – etc… So they make vertical stripes. I then made a casing for the waistband. To try & clarify, I haven’t sewed the first piece of fabric (in my example, it would be the first light pink) to the last piece (in my example, Pooh) yet. If I did, I’d have my skirt, but no elastic. I hope I’m making sense.

Now I don’t know how to proceed. If I thread the elastic thru the waistband, I’ll then sew the skirt together. But the ends of the elastic will stick out a little because I need to “catch” the elastic in the stitch. This is what I actually did, but it looks dumb.

I thought about sewing the skirt completely together first and having a bit of the casing unsewn and threading the elastic thru that. Then stitching it up when I’m finished. Maybe this is how it’s supposed to be done?

Anyone know what I’m asking?

Yet another vote for keeping it longer. The twirlier the better for a 3 year old, in my opinion!

This turned out great. It looks professional! I would love to see it on her!

You rock, Teresa!!! It amazes me that you always come up with a pattern when people ask!

I love the way the skirt turned out. It looks like you put a lot of effort into it, too. Your daughter is too cute! I love girls with a "stinker twinkle" in their eyes!

Your pictures are making me Long for Disney. *sigh*
Your daughters are beautiful!!

Just thought I'd butt in with my opinion, too. I like the idea of the red ruffle at the bottom. But, only if you can find a red that matches Ariels hair exactly! If it was the same shade, it seems like it would bring out the Ariel fabric more.

Ok, who else read this and immediately thought....use the pillowcase, make him a pillowcase dress?

Yep...it's official....I'm weird. :confused3

:rotfl: Oh my gosh, I thought the same thing for a split second. I can't look at a pillowcase without thinking, hmmm.......
Oh...I love it!!! That's different than the one I have! The one I have is red with squares with the characters in it but I like this one better!!! Was this at Wal-Mart? I really don't need to spend more $$ on this but of course, the picture is going to force me too. :lmao:
Yup, I saw that Rudolph fabric at WalMart yesterday.

(If I could find it, I would put a copy of my 8th grade picture right here, just so you could see my lovely frizz perm, ginormous glasses and veluor shirt)

Oh Teresa, please don't!!! Shield your eyes, everyone! ;)

I thought I'd also share this little gem!

Why, why, why, why, why do you have this pattern!?!? :scared1: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Yes, this is the way to do it.

Make sure you overlap your elastic onto itself about a half inch or so, then sew it twice, once near the beginning of the overlap, and once at the end. This helps the elastic to lay better in the casing, and there won't be a bump as you would if you just sewed the ends together like a regular seam.

I went to Disney World every year as a child, and I don't remember seeing many of the characters then. They have a lot more now. Although, I think we do have a picture of me with Mickey Mouse when I was about 7. Anyway, I like the organization of Disney World. I had no idea DL didn't do it the same way. It seems like it would be more dangerous for everyone. Those guys can't really see in those costumes, and could easily knock someone over without knowing it. And, it just opens them up to all sorts of accusation and trouble.
It's definately organized for the most part at DisneyLand. A few of them go off on their own w/o bouncers. Mainly Alice, Mad Hatter, Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins. Pretty much everybody else has the CM bouncers. The problem is, the "bouncers" don't really moderate the lines, they just stand by the character 'til it's time to go. Hence the ADULT butting in line in front of my three year olds just before they ushered Minnie out. I was a bit heartbroken for my little boys. I couldn't believe the CM didn't point out the line of children waiting to that overbearing, inconsiderate adult.

I am clueless how to multi quote, I did read how but haven't tried it yet. Anyways, skirt elastic, when I do shorts, I sew the casing down, leaving about 2 inches to thread through the elastic, then thread through, pull and stitch the ends of elastic only together, then I sew up the casing after the little part I sewed is back in. Did that make sense?

*MickeyFan* - I say ariel with rickrack right at the ruffle edge with the skirt edge. It will draw the attentioin back to Ariel I think.

I too have looked for Dena's outfit with no luck! WAKE UP! It is 2 here on the east coast so atleast 11 on the west!

I had alot more to say, but don't remember now after reading so many pages. I loved the care bears dress, buzz outfit and I know there were more!

And a big thank you to theresa for always finding what we need and adding it to her bookmarks!

Ok Ladies~ before I get caught up I need your help!! But first I wanted to show you the shorts I made the other day and said I would post. Just a note, my daughter is wearing the short, but they are for her slightly bigger cousin.
aaPicture159.jpg

I think If I would have made them four panels like all other shorts are they wouldn't have wings...lol
aaPicture162.jpg

OK! Now here is my problem. Normally I can get an outfit made in a day. I am just not feeling this one, I think because I am making it for a friends DD. Anyway, I am at a lost what I should use for the bottom ruffle. When I got the fabric at WM the only other fabrics that matched the Ariel was the purple and blue, now that I look back I wish I would have waited and at least found one more color.. So I can't make up my mind what color the bottom ruffle should be: blue, purple, or the Ariel print. I need to get this thing done. please help! :goodvibes jen

aaPicture182.jpg

My votes for the Ariel print. I think it'll look great because you have Ariel for the bodice on the very top and it'd look nice as the ruffle on the very bottom.

I saw a Mom and her son try this on our last trip to DW, and the bouncer quickly directed them to the back of the line. They had some sort of protest, such as they had been in line earlier, but they needed to leave for awhile. The handler told her everyone else had been waiting too, and to get to the back of the line.

It's horrible that someone cut in front of you and your children, especially since they had allready met her! People are so self centered sometimes!

And a big thank you to theresa for always finding what we need and adding it to her bookmarks!

And, a big thank you to everyone who has thanked me! Or, should I say a big Your welcome?? Anyway, it really makes my day to know that people enjoy what I find.

Now, if I could ever get off this board and actually sew some of the things I've found!!!:rotfl:

Thanks for all the compliments on DD and the Twirly skirt.. It really isn;t that hard.. It just took me a long time since Ihave never attempted anything like it! It has an insane amount of squares it took - I think 159 4 inch squares.. There are some mistakes but all in all for a first attempt I am excited... Now I am going to pick your brains.. What should I do for a shirt?

:laundy: :laundy: (This is from the Stinker!)

I think one of the ribbon t-shirts with the Minie applique would look cute with it.

I just got back from Disneyland 3 weeks ago and I was extremely disapointed in the way they handle the characters there. It is a free for all. I was with my sister and niece and her friend for a HS graduation trip, so I didn't have any little ones with me, but we did want to get a few silly pics of them with the characters. We ended up giving up because the only way to do it was to get in a shoving match with the other "guests". I actually mentioned it at City Hall when we were there about another issue and the lady said "I hear that all the time from people who have been to DW." I used to get annoyed with the handlers, but I will never again. I saw how it would be withouth the "bouncers".

Obviously the whole character handler thing was an invention of necessity. Regardless of regulating crowd control the character HAVE to get back inside in a timely manner. Imagine being inside those suits on a 98 degree day (this morning at 8:00am it was 91 here) and they obviously can't just walk past kids or push through a crowd they have to BE that character and what the kids expect at all times. So to have a handler that says, "Oh, it's time for Mickey to go..." is a bit political as well.
I think it is a commentary on our social decline. That we would be so careless, thoughtless and/or selfish that we need someone to step in so that these characters are able to do their job well. Like mytwotinks said at DL w/ no handlers people were pushing and shoving. What??? I know you've spent a lot of money, time etc... for this trip to see the mouse and maybe it's the only trip you'll ever take but still you can't see past yourself to see the danger you put others in by pushing shoving and demanding the attention of this character who needs to get into the air conditioning. I get the "but we were next in line..." thing but someone has to be last. There will always be someone in the line and I don't know how many of you have suffered from heat stroke, but you can die from it. It's no fun. I've seen, pre handler days, characters trying to get inside when they were just mobbed w/ people and you could see the character practically begging to be let go of.
While I miss running into the characters at the parks I do understand the neccessity for this system.
We are going to go the magical beginnings thing w/ DD this year and hope that she has a chance to mingle w/ the characters a little more. We don't really ever stand in line to see them DS9 doesn't care and she was too little before now to. But now she's 2 and totally knows Mickey Mouse and Jasmine so I hope that this is a remedy for us, at least for now.
I definately agree. The CM bouncers are a necessity on the character's part. It would be nice if the CM also helped regulate the line a little so the kiddos didn't get trampled and the line runs orderly as it should.

Here's my latest creation. It's another "homemade" as opposed to "custom", but my girls love them. DS wanted in the picture, even though he doesn't have a "custom" on. Sorry for the picture quality. I don't know what happened.

A close up of the applique that I did on the sewing machine. It's my first try at appliqueing.
MinnieApplique.jpg

As I said, I sewed the big Minnie applique on the machine. The little Mickey heads around the bottom were another story. It was too hard on the machine, so I hand stitched some of them. Neither way turned out that great. I wished the Minnie applique stitch was closer together, but I couldn't get it to work. I stitched around it twice. I didn't know if that would work, but it looked better. I was too scared to go around a third time. Has anyone done it like that?

Very cute! From the first photo, far away, I thought the Mickey Head was lace....the close up of course shows it's not, but does it give that illusion in person like it does in the photo. Very cool!

THANK YOU both for the instructions (and so quickly, too!). I thought that was how I should've done it, but I didn't want to try that way only to dig out my trusty seam ripper yet once again.

I didn't realize it looked like lace until you pointed it out. Now I see that it does, at least in the photo. I'll have to look at the dresses again, but I don't think they look like lace IRL. The dresses are in the washing machine. My girls have worn them 3 times since I made them (and I only finished them last week!).
