Kids clothing...I may have gone overboard

I went on a little binge this morning at the mall. I spent more than I should have on the kids. Do you think 976.00 is unreasonable for 2 kids for the spring & summer? I shopped the Gap and Gymboree. Now what to tell DH.

The funny thing is I would never just go out and make a thousand dollar purchase without discussing it.

Wish me luck. Holly
WOW....that is a lot. It would be overboard in my eyes.

You know, my girls are "fashion plates", too. "Juicy", "Abercrombie" and even "Dolce & Gabbana" are names well known in my daughters' closets.

but I doubt I ever bought 30 outfits for either one of them, with matching purses, at one time. especially when they were preschoolers and they'd be outgrowing the clothes within a season or two. I didn't mind buying things for the older one because I knew I'd be passing them down to the younger one.

If you dress her like this now, by the time she's 12 she'll bankrupt you.

Well when you break it down I don't find it to be unreasonable. Lets face it kids clothes are expensive. When my 2 were little I always spent a fortune on them. And similar to you, I always spent more on my daughter. Don't feel guilty.

me again:wave2: I just wanted to clarify that the "30" outfits include a coat and bathing suits as well, not a total of 30 outfits plus the extras. wow maybe I should return some:confused:

Holly

1 coat, four bathing suits and 26 outfits, then. well, unless your daughter wears more than one outfit a day, you won't have to do laundry for ... almost four weeks. at four they still tend to ge messy, but still...

I don't think anyone can decide whether it was excessive or not but you. We all have different financial situations here on the DIS and one persons idea of how much to spend on kids clothes can be much different from someone else's. Gymboree and Gap wouldn't exist if people didn't find it reasonable to buy their clothes there. I know a gal who shops at Gymboree and spends $900 nearly every month depending on when the lines come out and doesn't think twice.

Only you and your DH can decide what your clothing budget is. I wouldn't return it based on anonymous opinions on a message board. JMHO ;) I love Gymboree clothes though so maybe I shouldn't be able to voice my opinion. ;)

Out of curiosity...did you get anything from the Sunshine Daydream line? The 60'sish line? It is all soooo cute!!!!! The boys surf stuff is super cute as well. The strawberries stuff was cute too but our store is almost out so I don't know how much of that your store had left. ;)

Edited to finish as my 20 month old hit submit on me.

I honestly couldn't imagine getting my kids to agree to stay in a clothing store long enough to buy 30 outfits. :p

something else to think about -- if you bought her all that stuff now, what will you do when you see other cute summer things in the next two months? are you going to be able to buy those things for her? or did you spend your entire clothing budget for her now?

I loved the Sunshine line, got the flowery mod dress and skirt and tee and the color block purse.

But I did the most damage in Sweet as Sugar. Too cute. I bought the white pleated dress!

And I really liked the tulip collection, but vey little left.

Do you know what lines are going on sale tommorow?

Thanks

Holly

Just make sure to watch for price adjustments.

You can look at www.gap.com If something is on sale on the website then it should be on sale in the store. I purchased a bunch of items for my DS and DD around Christmas and got a price adjustment about a week later for a ton of money. That same day I received price adjustments from Banana Republic and J. Crew. I was a pretty happy camper!

I always look at the sale racks at Gap. I bought a pair of pants for DD the other day for $4.97. :D

Oh, if you bought a dress in the Easter line there is a big chunk of money! :p I don't think anything is going on sale tomorrow but people can start redeeming Gymbucks.

Gymbucks can be earned during certain periods of time (For every $50 you spend you earn one) and then during redemption, for every $50 you spend you get $25 off. So you get half off for every Gymbuck you have earned. It is a great deal if you catch them during earnings period (you can sign up for emails at Gymboree.com and they will tell you when you can earn/spend them).

Keep an eye out for Sweet as Sugar to go on sale...you will probably be able to get a price adjustment for it. You probably won't be able to get one on Sunshine Daydream as it just came out but 20% off your Sweet as Sugar purchases could save you a few dollars. ;)

Just curious--

You have refered to having two boys on more than one occasion. It just seems strange.

Are you playing a trick on us?

I was thinking the same thing....when the teen years hit she will be so accustomed to having a large expensive wardrobe that she'll need an extension added on to her room for the walk-in closet. looks like hubby better get a second job...LOL

I agree with Soccer Princess. If you have the money and is able to use it on whatever you would like, then that would be a good choice cause your kids will need those clothes and kids always outgrow clothes fast.

wouldn't the fact that they outgrow clothes so fast, make it a bad idea to buy so much at once...???

Hey, if ya got the money to spend, why not?

I bought a few things for my boys at the department store today..I am lucky to have boys as I don't find as many things to be irresistable in the boy's dept. I love love LOVED baby Gap for both of them when they were newborns until about 18 months...then their stuff just doesn't seem to be as cute anymore...When my older DS was young (he's now 6) I could find adorable stuff at Gap all the time! Now it seems they have changed their focus and don't have as much "cute" patterned prints and such for toddlers and preschoolers. I'd spend more $$ there if they went back to the "cute" little boy stuff instead of just standard polos, t's, basic shorts, etc. I can get those at Target or Old Navy for a lot cheaper!

Wow...I was always lucky if my mom spent $200 on me for clothing at one time...and being in juniors clothing...that was enough for like a pair of jeans and a couple tops!

That is a bit much for the clothing. Just wait until they're teens and $30 will only cover one shirt.

You got good advice on getting a price adjustment when the items go on sale. Just don't be like my DH. I sent him in to get an adjustment once and he spent the difference and some more on our DD!!!!! He can be worse than me!

Hey MosMom
Lucky you working there and getting that great discount! Question, do you know the time period for redeeming the gymbucks? I know it starts tommorrow, but when does it end? I don't want to wait for the email, hee, hee!!:teeth:
