kids' birthdays at WDW

We will be at WDW a wk. before my son's 5th birthday. Do any restaurants offer any special perks such as free b-day cakes if you tell them? I have heard that Chef Mickey's is good for b-days.

I don't know about Chef Mickeys but I definitely do not recommend O'hanas. Ohanas is my daughter's favorite restaurant and so when we were there last Dec. we decided we would celebrate her 12th birthday there. I called in advance and asked if they did anything special for birthdays. The woman who answered said that they didn't. However, when we checked in, another parent was giving information about her son's birthday. I then told the hostess that it was my daughter's birthday too. The hostess said, that my daughter would get a special dessert.

Well, after our meal, the waitress brought over a cupcake and said, "Sorry, I don't sing." I replied, "Then we will." Also during this time there was a man playing a ukelele (sp) singing "Happy Birthday" to patrons. The waitress didn't even tell the man to come to our table. Needless to say, we weren't happy with Ohana's this time.

Anyway, the moral is --- if anyone tells you that they don't do anything for birthdays -- ask and ask again. I can't imagine any restaurant at DW not. Also, in hindsight, I wish I would of talked to the manager, the waitress really gave us a bad impression of this restaurant.

Chef Mickey's is good for birthdays especially the younger kids. We tried Whispering Canyon for our DD 8th birthday dinner and they weren't good at all, they are better with teenagers. I wonder if they do anything for birthdays at the Villians dinner at 1900 Park Fare, I would think that little boys might like villians. Hope this helps!

Besides restaurants, be sure to mention the birthday to CM's around the parks. The CM at the hat shop in MK had the whole store sing to my daughter. When she picked up her birthday badge at Town Hall in MK, the CM sang her Happy Birthday in Goofy's voice and gave my son a badge for when he has his birthday next year.
