Kids and Counter Service Meals - can they order adult entrees?

As of last week, all the credits are pooled. The CM's can read your key card and know if there's a child on the plan, but if you choose to order an adult meal for your child, it will still count as a general credit. Since the CM's are getting pickier about this issue, I wonder if Disney will come up with a way to deduct child credits for children's meals and adult credits for adult meals.

We have used the DDP a couple of times now. The last time being December 05. At that time, there was never a problem with the adult vs. child meals. There were a couple of occasions when we would be discussing this while trying to decide to order and the CM would say that if my 8 yr old son wanted adult, no problem. In fact, the CMs would say, "Why don't you get a side of chili with your burger and how about some cheese?" Click click click... "It comes with the dining plan so why don't you take advantage of it?" It was extremely laxed then. They were practically throwing extra food into the order. It will be interesting to see how it works this year. Of course, this is the first time we are using FREE DDP. I wonder if that makes a difference? If my DS wants an adult entree, I will order from the kids menu. No biggie. They give generous portions - or they did. Always plenty - if not too much.

I don't think cm care what you do. They all seemed very nice about the DP. We had a lot of ts and took our friends to dinner. The cast member said that it was ok to use our credits for them. We paid for the plan, so we were just giving away our credits.

I need to upgrade my 9yo as well. did they make you pay adult proce for her tickets?

I will have one grandson on the kid's plan. He does not like kid food. He does not like peanut butter and jelly and does not eat macaroni and cheese. He would much prefer a grilled chicken salad, calamari, or a steak. He is so unlike grandma who LIVES for peanut butter.

I ran into this dilemma with the card........The persons listed on the card. I had two rooms! So, two separate points pooled! (1 adult 2 kids and then 3 adults in other room)rather than have both room cards with me at every dinner, I felt it woiuld be more confusing. We decided on using one rooms points until they were used up! Then the other rooms points (credits). When I began using the key that said 1 adult 2 kids......... the problems began. NOt a big thing but this is when it all came together for me! I was buying food for six people with a card that said 1 a 2 c! and someone said something, I simply told her we had two rooms and she took my word for it. After that though, I brought the other card along with me in case, no one else caught on. Last night our bill was over 250. and I used that card that said 1 a 2 c and was fine.

Oh yeah, I imagine I will be doing that. It is still 2 adult meals and 1 child meal. Doesn't matter who ends up eating it!

Yes you can, actually I just did, we have a DS9 who is a big eater, i knew going into it he would not like the kids meals, he would be very upset eating pb&j while mom and dad eat steak. Even though we got the free DDP i personally felt it was not right to take advantage of the system (and yes i know everyone has their opinions on this) i am not taking sides, only that for my family we could not take advantage of Disney and did not want to have the possible troubles at every meal. In response to your question i called and asked if i could upgrade him so he could eat off the adult menus, i was told it was no problem but there was a small fee, basically you have to upgrade the childs park tickets to adult tickets, all in all to change 6 nights 7 days for him was less that $48. Since the DDP was already free, i dont think paying that amount for my son to enjoy steak, lobster, or whatever else he wants is asking too much.

Just my opinion, and i know everyone has one on this issue, you do what you think is right and fair in the end.

Your card will list the number of adults and children in your party. If the CM is a stickler, tehy might stop you.

I couldn't get my daughter a burger in America at Epcot. They didn't have burgers or hot dogs for kids there. Go figure.

This year our card did not list the number of kids and adults. Last year it did. There was NEVER any problem getting an adult meal for our child if that is what he preferred. Several times my DS7 and I were eating without the rest of the family and it was never questioned even with him standing there. Several CS places even suggested he get the adult portion when I ordered a kid meal.

Yes, they will add the difference between the child and adult tickets as well. I upgraded my youngest dd for our upcoming trip. They put her in the computer as a 10 year old, even though she is 8.

Yes - we upgraded her and paid a couple hundred in difference, I think, for our 6 night stay.

That kid will eat her weight in expensive food, though, so I don't mind. For me the dining plan is all about simplicity and streamlining. With five kids, we make things as easy as possible for us. Right now, that means pre-paying for all of our meals (a la DDP) and not having to deal with budgeting for the meals. Normally I sit down and figure out approximately how much we would spend at a given restaurant, what our TS budget is, yadda yadda.

This way I can leave my notes and budget at home and just enjoy the parks.
