Kid's 11th birthday half way through cruise. Will he be able to go to Edge?

Subject says it all. Our older boy is turning 11 about half way through the cruise. It seems like Edge is much more his gig than the Oceaneer's Club/lab (and as a bonus, he'd be able to get away from his little brother for a bit ;) ).
  • Will he be able to start going to Edge on the day he turns 11?
  • Can he go the few days before he turns 11?
  • Will there be no Edge for him as he isn't 11 when getting on the ship?
  • Should I just be calling DCL?
  • If he does start at Edge, will he ever spend time with his brother at the OClub/Lab?
  • <forky voice> What is "computer?"
Inquiring minds (i.e.- wife and I) want to know.

He definitely will be able to go after his 11th birthday, and there is a strong possibility he will be able to go at the beginning on the cruise (but never any promises). Make sure to stop by with him on embarkation day to talk to a counselor and get him registered.

DCL is strict about the maximum age for the youth clubs, but has some flexibility about the minimum age as long as the maximum number of kids onboard - not in the club itself at any given time - for the appropriate age group is not reached. If that’s not the case, they can issue a waiver for a 10yo to go to Edge. It is all handled onboard, not through shoreside services. Go there on the first day to arrange it.

At 11, he can go between Edge and the Oceaneers clubs as he pleases. He’s not limited to one or the other.

Thanks everyone. I actually pre-empted responses on this thread and called DCL this morning to inquire. They said similar to what Marc D pointed out, that we will need to check on board. However, they also pointed out that since he is turning 11 while on the cruise, there should be no issue getting him into the club (along with the fact that we are going when schools aren't out on break, limiting the number of tweens that will be on the ship).

Now I just need to find out if the kiddos will get along enough to have fun together in the Oceaneers Club.. though I doubt any of you can answer this ;)

Yes but I guarantee you he will be bored and go right back to the Oceaneers Club.

Our kid was two weeks short of 11 on our last cruise and we were able to sign a waiver easily. I believe it can depend on the population on the ship but it is highly likely that it will be fine.
