Kick'n It at Kidani (aka Am I Becoming a Resort Snob?)Final Update 8/20 p.54

Maybe somebody needs to come up with some special lime green DIS shower caps for certain ones of us to use on Spash Mountain.

I think Wigd or shocker need to do that. I bet shocker could find one in 5 seconds flat!

Whew, I've been reading like a crazed woman to get caught up. Loved your pics of IASW! Enjoying the trippie and waiting for the next installment!

I just came over to tell you that I am dying to read your Epcot update!!! popcorn::

However, I see that you were super busy helping DS pack and helping LJ get more thrill ride fixes!

I think that is adorable that your other nephew wants to come stay with you! You must be the cool aunt. ;)

I would love to do an update tonight, but my DS is going to ODP soccer camp tomorrow and I spent most of the evening helping him pack and running errands to get what he still needs.

LJ's mom called me tonight to ask if DS14 and I wanted to join them at Dutch Wonderland for the day. I said - "Your son is a thrill ride junkie and it's time to step it up a little". So I suggested a local theme park (Dorney Park) that has a kid's section and real roller coasters. Hopefully they will agree to this! I know LJ will love to ride some coasters with my DS.

Then she told me that LJ's brother told her, "I need some time away by myself. I want to go to Aunt Mary Ellen's house". So we are also arranging a private sleepover!

Awwwwwwwwww!

I hope your DS has a great time at camp. Or that it goes well lol, great time may not be exactly the experience but you know what I mean!

Does this mean you get a weekend off from tournaments?:lmao: Those seem to get rarer and rarer as they get older, we're starting to get scared. We've officially lost thanksgiving to soccer. Sigh.

Chillin' on the TTA is one of my favorites too! I think it will be open in Sept! :yay:

That line for Haunted Mansion is unreal! I've never seen the line that long. :scared:

Scary about the paramedics. Glad no one needed the stretcher!

I really like the heat but what you're describing sounds like too much. :sad2:

Shocker - I KNOW there is a picture here and I CAN't see it cause I can't see any photobucket pictures at work! AGGGGHHHHHHHH! I can't wait to get home to see what you came up! In the meantime I need to use my imagination so I can have a good :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thank you!

Hey Wigd:
So psyched you both stopped by tonight. It's like having Dis celebrities visiting my TR. My DS 14 took all the IASW pics and I think he did a great job. He has some photography skills that I don't posess! I'll be working on my next installment tonight!

CP - let me just say that my Epcot meltdown was similar to yours, but the events leading up to it were a tad different. It was that same feeling of.....I worked so hard to plan this trip, I am working my butt off to keep you peeps organized, and THIS happens! Plus...when I exploded I am sure I drew the attention of anyone in the immediate vicinity. But - my meltdown does not happen until day 7, so you must wait for the drama!

I have no idea why it took so long to get my chores done last night, but when I finally had time to update it was 10pm. I just couldn't bring myself to do it! With one DS away tonight, things should be quieter in my household.

Yeah - I must be the COOL aunt! I like that. :thumbsup2 I can't plan his sleepover until August, but I am going to try to plan some cool things for him to do. Little stuff like going to Friendly's , miniature golfing, and maybe taking the boat ride to Fort Delaware. It will be right after his 8th birthday, so it will be fun!

Awwwwwwwwww!

I hope he has fun at camp, too. Only one kid from Delaware usually makes it to the call back camp. We are District 1 so we are in with all of NJ, NY, PA, and all the New England states. My son was on the same team with the kid who gets called back every year and he is not that good, IMHO. He is fast, but that's about it. He is not a "smart" soccer player. My sons says, "Yeah - coaches see him and they think ....I can make something out of him.....then they realize they can't".

Next soccer tournament - Aug 1st & 2nd. Then thanksgiving, then Christmas. I even heard some mumblings of maybe Wide World of Sports! But I don't want to say anything too loud yet, cause it may be a rumor!

Chillin' on the TTA is one of my favorites too! I think it will be open in Sept! :yay:

:thumbsup2for chillin' on TTA.

I was reading a TR last night that showed a line for HM that reached the Liberty Belle boat. :scared1:

I hope no one needed that stretcher.

Heat = bad!

I'm anxiously awaiting the Epcot update as well. You know they say things happen in threes, I wonder who else had a "moment" in Epcot...:rolleyes1

OK, I am finally caught up! Your TR is really reminding me why I want to bring Patrick to gnomefest with me. He will be just about LJ's age by then and I think still young enough to enjoy the stuff for kids but old enough to want to try some of the bigger rides and such. DH isn't convinced that it would be OK to take him out of school for a week, he also doesn't think it's fair to Daniel (and he won't buy my arguement for taking him on a mom/son only trip in 4 years :sad2:) I'm going to have to work on this a little more!

I just trying to get caught up and I noticed something really neat!! We stayed in a 2BR in Kidani the same time you and your family and from the looks of our room view you guys were just a couple room down from us!! How ironic!!:)

Oh Katie - That's a tough one! :scared: As long as he is a good student I don't see the big deal with taking him out of school. I took my kids out of school every year until they hit high school. It's one week and its not going to make any difference by the time he hits HS/college. Of course, leaving your younger on behind might be tough. To me, that would be the bigger issue. But 9 is a great age for getting on all the rides and he will be able to keep up with all the activities.

Please refresh my memory - what are the exact dates of gnomefest. I want to go in early May for my BD and I would like to be able to have some of my trip cross over with gnomefest.

Hey Princess Brittany.....Welcome! :thumbsup2

Cool! Were you also in a standard villa in the Timon building? We were in Timon 4. We were very close to the Timon 4 elevator. It was almost right around the corner from us. I did take a pic of our door on the day we checked out, so I will post that soon (better late than never).

Please chime in with your impressions /experiences at Kidani. I'm anxious to hear what you thought. Do you own there and/or SSR? Do you want to go back as much as I do?

Hey....let 'em go! I really do enjoy Shocker's slightly warped and imaginative sense of humor and this way not only do I get a laugh imagining what he's posted, I get another laugh when I get home and actually get to see it! :thumbsup2

Slightly warped? :rotfl2:

I hope I never disappoint you! :lmao:

Yeah....It's time for an update. I doubt I will update tomorrow because I have to march in a parade tomorrow night (Insert picture of band geek here.....shocker????)

When I left off LJ and I were departing the hot, hot, hot MK. Did I mention it was pretty hot that day? DH and DS stayed to get FP's for BTM. LJ and I got a quick bus home and we changed into our bathing suits to go swimming. After LJ's rash he took a couple days off from chlorine, but he was ready to go again. I didn't take any pics of him swimming, but he took off to do the slide. Then he joined the games at the "pool party". He's not shy or afraid to take part in things even when he doesn't know anybody. I like that.

When DH got back from the park he joined us at the pool. It was another perfect pool day. I generally have bad luck swimming while at WDW. The scenario usually plays out like this.....Leave the park at 2:30 in the blazing sunshine, go back to resort and change, get to pool, big puffy white clouds roll in, clouds get darker, sun disappears, lightening in distance, CM closes the pool. Yeah .....that's how my afternoon pool time usually rolls. But not this trip. Nope....no clouds, no lightening, no rain, and pool open 24/7. I really needed this pool time. I cooled down in no time. Boy, I could get use to this. Sun, water, and an adult beverage.

When we got back for the pool, the older boys were back from Blizzard Beach. They said the line for Summit Plummet was fairly long, but they still managed a few rides on SP and generally has a good time! I think they were starting to realize that they needed to get out more during the day.

We all took the bus to MK. DS 14 wanted to know why we couldn't just go park at the Contemporary and walk in like we did the other night. I'm not gonna lie when I say that I actually entertained that thought for a split second, only because I saw how vacant the lot was a few nights ago. Tonight we had a 5:50 ADR at Tony's. Tony's is another restaurant which gets a bad rap here on the boards. I've eaten at Tony's twice before and my meals have always been good. I was curious to see if tonight's meal would be the same. We got to the park about 15 mins early and DS16 and I went to procure more Motrin. His leg was still bothering him and the Motrin helped.

Oh....Lookie....I found some more boats on my way back to MK:

I also found a few pics of the mini parade they do every few hours. I forget the name, but I know it has something to do with Celebrate.

When we got back, I decided to check in a few minutes early. Here are the boys sitting on the porch getting very hungry:

DisneyJune2009813.jpg

DisneyJune2009811.jpg

Poor LJ....Was he going to make it?

DisneyJune2009818.jpg

This was the FRIST time all week (except for that brief moment on the Safari) when I saw LJ look worn out.

We were seated within minutes of checking in. This was good because LJ was starting to get hungry! I wasn't sure if he was really tired or really hungry, cause he got dangerously quiet. But once he got a few pieces of bread and some lemonade in him, he started to perk up.

Here we are waiting in the lobby to get seated:

DisneyJune2009823.jpg

As for dinner, I didn't take pictures and I can't remember what everyone had. I had the pasta with marina and seafood, LJ had the ever dependable chicken nuggets, DS 16 had the chicken parm. DS's friend probably had the same. I have no idea what DS 14 had. I told my DH I was working on my TR tonight and asked him what he had to eat at Tony's . He started to answer me and then suddenly said, "Tony's? Where's Tonys?" See what I mean CP - Directionally Deprived Denny strikes again. The response I was really expecting was, "IDK", not "Where's Tony's?". How can you eat at Tony's three times and NOT KNOW WHERE IT IS????? So, his best guess is fish. Trust me - he has no idea whether he liked it or not.

I DID NOT like my pasta. The marina sauce was pretty tasteless, except that it was spicy. How a sauce can be spicy and tasteless is beyond me. It was just very blah and the seafood was sort of overcooked and not overly abundant. This takes the prize for the worst meal of the trip. Everything else had been really good up to this point. I didn't really care that much because I was actually getting tired of eating big meals, so I only ate about 1/2 of it. This is unusual for me. I usually clean my plate. Something about the starving children in Africa line that my mom gave me as a child. It stuck. LJ DID NOT like his chicken nuggets. He said they "tasted wierd". He did love his 'make your own' sundae. I can't remember what everyone else had, but I do know someone had a yummy looking piece of cheese cake.

So you are probably wondering why I picked Tony's. I guess because I wanted to eat IN the park and DH and I had eaten at CP and the Plaza last trip and I really don't care for the LTT food in the summer. It's too much like Thanksgiving to be eating it in 90 degree weather. Furthermore, CRT is definately off the radar for teenage boys!

And this leads me to an observation I have made about dining in MK versus HS. I think MK has some really good CS places and there are quite a few CS places to choose from. In fact, I still have never eaten at Casey's. I guess I'm never near there at lunch time. However, the TS places at MK are really not my favorite. (Well, except I do like the CP breakfast). There is no place where you can just sit down and order a good meal that isn't a buffet, crappy Italian, or thanksgiving. On the other hand, HS has the worst CS places (IMHO) and a great variety of TS restaurants. I have now eaten at all the TS in HS. I pretty much like them all. My least favorite was Sci-fi dine in because my food was undercooked. But that was awhile ago. I understand they have the best hamburgers and shakes. So good, in fact, that I keep thinking about changing my Brown Derby Sept lunch ADR to a Sci-Fi lunch ADR. Trust me when I say that I have spent way too much time debating this. All opinions welcome!

But I digress. I am supposed to be talking about our evening at MK and, instead I am comparing CS and TS restaurants. After dinner we all headed over to ride Buzz. I did not take any pictures of our ride photos, which surprises me. I think I actually was starting to get tired of taking the camera out every two seconds. Here are some pics I took on the way to Buzz:

After Toy Story I made a grand offering. I offered to give DS16 and his friend my and DH's FP's for splash mountain. I know this was an extremely generous move for me, because it meant I would not be able to ride. But, I thought it was more important for LJ to get to ride with both his cousins. While the boys got in line I took countless picture of SpM.

First I started by trying to capture the boys as their log went around the little circle in front of the mountain:

DisneyJune2009835.jpg

Look....There they are....can you see them?

DisneyJune2009839.jpg

Then I tried taking pictures of the boats as they were going down the mountain. I was hoping to have the timing perfectly so I could capture the boys. Well....some of my pictures came out like this.....
