I was invited to join an aerobic kickboxing class at my gym tonight. I'm a little worried though. I've only been exercising for a few weeks and coordination is high on my list of strengths. Has anyone taken a class like this? I'm afraid I'll be in over my head. The instructor (who invited me) assures me everyone is at different levels, but I hate looking like an idiot. Also, do I have to wear something special on my feet or hands?

Thanks!

The YMCA has a few kickboxing classes that I have been wanting to try but like you, i'm a little nervous. It sounds like the same type of class as the one you might attend. It's not just for beginners or advanced..it's a mix of all levels. I'm nervous but i'm going to give it a try this Friday. I say go for it.....if you don't like, then you just don't go again. You'll never know unless you give it a try.

I took aerobic kickboxing last spring. We had wraps and boxing gloves for our hands. We did not hit each other (no sparring) but we did hit large stationary targets.

It was a good workout and I was always sweating like crazy but I was never bored! The time seemed to fly by. I think you should go for it. We had all kinds of people in our classes and we all helped each other and were very supportive. Each person did what they could do.

Hopefully they'll let you try one class to see if you like it. There are only so many moves (3 or 4 kicks and 3 or 4 punches) and once you learn them it's easy.

Hello! Personally, I LOVE kickboxing. And with most "Classes" you can work to your own level. Even if you have advanced members in the class, you can kick lower, or hold back how ever you need to in order to keep moving and do the best you can. I loved it, it's a really good work-out and just like most things in life, you have to be responsible for your own level of inspiration! If you are like me, holding back enthusiasum might be the HARDEST thing! LOL

Give it a go! If you don't like it, no sweat... (no pun intended!)

Have a great time! Please report back, would love to hear from you!

Peggy - Thanks for responding, but see my "Total Failure" thread -- it didn't go so well.

But, I'll train a bit more, get some tapes and work out on my own. In a few months, I'll get back in there and hold my own with the hardbodies - I'm sure of it.!
