Key West Question

Does anyone know if there is someplace in Key West that we could buy soda, beer, or wine. I don't want to have to carry it in our luggage and we have Disney transfers so there won't be any place to stop before boarding the boat. Any ideas?

Yes, there are several small liquor stores around within walking distance of the ship, if I remember correctly. Hopefully someone else can give you specifics.

Hi this is Shirley, born and raised in Key West, so I do know my hometown very well - Now first as I have mentioned many many times over, you are most welcomed to send for the packages I give away at NO COST TO YOU except for a self address envelope with about $3.50 worth of stamps on the envelope - that is it and the imformation I send is very useful filled with very interesting stuff on Key West, coupons and discounts -
Anyhow to answer your question - you have Faustos Market on the corner of Fleming and Bahama which Fleming Street is right off Duval Street - it is maybe about 1/2 mile from Mallory Square -
They have everything you could want -

Thank you Shirley for chiming in. I was trying to do a search yesterday for the market (since you had told us about it for our May cruise) and couldn't find it.

Faustos Market was a great stop for pop and water for us. Even got a couple of bags of what was called Key West Crunch (dried fuits, nuts etc.) that my DH loved.

BTW - Shirleys Key West packets are great. We had not heard about the Butterfly Conservatory without it and got a 10% off coupon too. Definately one of the highlights of our trip to Key West.

I try often to mention about these Key West packages and I also always try to add something from Orlando and Brevard County - this way at least you will know something about these areas before coming here especially if you are a first timer coming here - it is good to know that someone is around that can be kinda of a safe haven - I know all about going into a strange town and know nothing and noone so Norm and I do try to kinda be your safe zone - best part of it all there are no strings attached to it -
Faustos at one time was just a very small grocery store that most all the locals brought their groceries at - I remember when all local families would go in, get their groceries and if there wasn't enough monies to pay, their names would go on a slip and held until it could be paid - couldn't run too far in Key West since everybody knew everybody -------Faustos there on Fleming Street was once an old chinese laundry and I will never forget the couple that ran it - my parents lived just right next door and I was always over to their shop and was treated as if I was theirs - they spoke no English or spanish and I didn't speak their language, but what a bond built for so long - lanuage wasn't needed - what a town Key West was at one time.
Anyhow another tidbit about "home".

Saw a lot of folks boarding at Key West with 12-packs of soft drinks and beer bought at K-Mart too.

You can not walk to K-Mart - believe me unless you are very brave - BUT the trolley does go by there and you can get off -as for the time and trouble and for what little is saved -I myself wouldn't do it - to get there You have to walk from the ship to Truman - to White Street, turn left and start walking on Truman Ave on to North Roosevelt and just keep walking - it will seem like 10 miles by the time you get there and traffic, scooters, bikes and confusion would drive you nutso - as for the savings - forget it - it is not worth the extra efforts to save cents - Me I take the simple way out I would go Faustos - NOW REMEMBER this ok - I do NOT endorse ANYONE or receive any "favors" for giving the information I do about different things and places - I do this just because -- One thing I will tell you about K-Mart- lots of the locals go there and they are colorful - I go when I am down there to pick up flowers for the cementery - and do enjoy visiting with friends that I run into there.

Can I have your address and I will send you an envelope. That is exactly what I was looking for. I just can't see packing items like that. They weight too much and take up too much room.
Also, I am interested in getting a few gift baskets for our cruise. What is the best way to contact you about this. Is e-mail the best? I would be looking for one for my parents aniversary and one for my sister-in-law and fiance for their engagement.

But I will be more than happy to make your family a baskets - that is your choice ok.
Glad I was able to help ---believe me ---you wouldn't want to go all the way out on Roosevelt just to save a few dollars -- Now if you had transportation, for heaven's sake go for it - the shops are neat on Roosevelt Blvd.

Thanks for your offer of info on Key West, we are stoping there in October when we sail on the Rhapsody of the Seas. I would like to send for the info. What size envelope should I send?
We will want to stock up on Pepsi and some 'local' goodies, so this local market sounds like it will fit the bill.
Will your info packet include a map?

First good morning to all -
I love talking about Key West especially way back when lobsters, stone crab, turtle steak, fish was our main food and all we had to do was go to the end of almost any street and get supper and have a great time doing so - I have had numberous question asked of me about Key West but since it has become so commericalized, most of all the ol' locals are either gone or just moved out or do not go past White Street toward town -
The information I have does include several maps - I meant to get one of the cementery while I was down there and forgot - anyhow it makes it super great when the envelopes are about 9 to 10 inches - this makes it nice because then all I have to do is drop all the stuff in the envelope, close it and off it goes - lots of times I get a letter envelope and I have to take the time to revamp it to hold all the stuff I have - anyhow if you want it - just mail the information to me.
ps - I have always offered to help anyone how I could with no strings attached - not my nature.

I'm sure Shirley or someone else out there can give you the exact distance but I walked it and it made for a lovely stroll. We did stop for an "adult beverage to go" about halfway to assist us on our journey and another for the return to the ship.

Be sure and get the map on the way down so you don't find out you were just a block away from the Hemingway House and a couple blocks away from the Truman Summer White House later that night.

Don't forget a hat and sunscreen.

I think all of Key West is pretty much within walking distance! It seems to be the transportation mode of choice. Well, that and scooters!
