Kevin please, your killing me. They're pronounced puh cons not pea cans

Another back up for pee kans in the UK.
Although I've noticed a lot of Americans pronounce what we would say as an 'a' as an 'o' - Tupac becomes 'Tupoc' and Nissan (all short vowells in the UK) becomes 'nee son'.

All differences are things I love tho, makes travelling all the more fun :)

:goodvibes

I say Peh Kahn, DH says Pee Can.......we both grew up in Kansas but my family is from Missoura, his from Kansas.
Yes, we say Missoura not Missouree.

I also say I'm going to do the warsh, which drives DH nuts.

I'm in NC and it's always been pea cans for me! We even have a pea can tree back at the farm that we get fresh ones from every fall. I have a huge bag of frozen ones at home now!

Pee-kan, puh-kahn......I pronounce it De-Lish!! (especially in pie or tarts)

Here in Ontario, I say PEE CANs.:rotfl:

Now if you want to get picky, ask the Brits how there is an extra i in Aluminum. They say is Alumi ni um. Though I have to say I still can listen to them talk for hours and hours. :goodvibes So I forgive them for that.

:lmao:
With Bob being from NY and myself from South TX we have this "argument" all the time.
He says pee-cans and I say puh-kahns. :confused3
It always ends the same way. He tells me.."spell it then, smart*#%". :rotfl:

To be fair, it's British spelling is aluminium, hence we all think the same about the US pronunciation.

I think we just like to have extra vowells, see 'colour' for example :lmao:

Being from Alabama, I'm definitely a "puh kahn" girl. Mostly because saying "pee can" doesn't feel right to me, regardless of how correct it might be. It takes too much effort to form the word when you say it like that.

My mother, however, does say "pee cans."

Just outside of Toronto, Canada its Pee-kan.

Now for useless info on Pee-kans. Did you know that 50% of cashews canned for eating are sold to Costco?

I bet y'all would love to have some of dem Pray leens just filled with dem Pee cans. Yum, Yum. I bet y'all can even get'em down at the Wal-MartS.

If this was Star Trek II, i would say

Peh-Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, Peh-Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

We say Peh-kahn down here in South Texas.

I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.

"Stop namin' nuts!" ;)

The two are interchangeable here. Pee-cans, pe-kahns. Either way.

I've heard a lot of you talk before. Any time you want to learn the right way to speak, just come visit us in Iowa. We say it all right :)

As a New Englander living in the UK, I have to say the funniest thing people who live here do differently language wise is how they pronounce the letters "DU" together -like "JU". So Duracell becomes Juracell.

As far as Pecans go, my mom is from Maine, my dad from Georgia so we say it both ways in my house. :)

every place has their own ways of prouncoucing or calling things..
Like up north in NY, we say SODA..here in Indiana they call it POP.. its just a regional thing..get over it
