Keurig Machines - when and where to buy?

Hello All,

So I've been ogling the Keurig machines for quite a while and just couldn't justify the expense or the non-recyclable little cups, especially since DH and I like the same kind of coffee. However, DH has high blood pressure and his doctor wants him to stop the caffeine...but he still wants to have his warm beverage in the morning...so either I go decaf (the horror!) or it seems like the K cups would be a good fit. I understand that they have the My K cup things where we could each use our own coffee, which helps with the garbage aspect. DS would also love hot chocolate and decaf tea with one (not that the microwave isn't doing the trick for that...)

My question is where is the best deal, and should I wait until Black Friday?

We're BJ's members and I believe the one there is about $130 with a bunch of cups. My good friend is a Sam's member - anyone know the comparison of what they have in their pack and price? I have a BBB 20% coupon - should I compare there? How about Kohl's? I have $10 in Kohl's Cash that I need to spend by the 9th. Oh, I also have $10 off my next purchase over $100 at BJ's. Hmmm...so many options. Anyone with any good advice for me?

I have bought 3 (1 for me the rest as gifts) QVC is the way to go they ususally come with k cups and A my k cup filter which would be a $10 additional purchases. Plus it's usually on easy pay.

I saw a post on slickdeals that said Target has he Keurigs all 20% off. I got 2 last year at JCP in December for $75 so there may be better deals out there the closer it gets to Christmas.
You could also check Bed Bath & Beyond for a sale and combine with a 20% coupon.

ETA I have the My K cup and I can't stand it, it makes a mess and unless you use a very fine grind of coffee normally, it just isn't strong enough. (thats coming from someone who prefers coffee not very strong).
If you want to cut down on the garbage produced there are some single serve machines that use a pod, not a cup, Tassimo and I think there is another one too. The poods may even be bio-degradable, but I'm not positive on that.

Kohl's is having another 30% off starting 11/10 with Kohl's cash back. They have the Platinum Keurig but not the Cuisinart one online. It should bring the Platinum down to about $108 or so. I have read the T cups (Tassimo) are degradable but not the K cups. We have a Sensio and the coffee is pretty blah-week-so I was looking at Keurig and Tassimo. All our friends love their Keurigs but online most people say the Tassimo is a better cup of coffee plus makes lattes, cappuccino, etc. The cups are hard to find in stores though. With Kohl's 30% and a $50 rebate they are offering the best Tassimo would be about $70!

I love my Keurig! I bought it at Sam's Club for the same price as Target. It was a nicer unit and came with a ton of k-cups.

I would check out some of the k-cup websites before you buy. I don't think there is a ton of decaf options, but then again, I don't look for it either. I order from coffeewiz.com. If you spend $50, it is shipped for free.

Thanks for the input so far!

We have done the pods in the past and just were never that excited about the resulting coffee...plus they're harder to get now. For a time I was stuffing and folding our own pods, now that I think back. Anyway...I do see on Amazon that there is a K cup thing that will accept pods, so I might give that a shot just for the environmental aspect.

Thanks fo rthe tip on looking at decaf options before jumping in - that would be a big key to this whole idea for us!

Costco has the big one - 64 oz, 5 settings, w/60 kcups and a refillable cup for $139.

I just bought a Keurig Platinum mini at Target for $79 yesterday. It comes with 12 Kcups. I think this is a great deal. The cheapest I have seen it for was $100+ The larger models were also on sale, but I wanted the small one since it is a gift for my mom who lives alone and doesn't need a larger one or the counter space to accomodate it.

I have a big one from QVC. Love it--four years old and still going strong. I bought 2 mini ones as gifts last XMas. And the best was a big special edition at Goodwill for $25. Target sends them their salvages; I didn't really need it since my older one works fine, but it is quieter.

I love Keurig.

Despite using a filter, de-scaling regularly, and using filtered water from my refrigerator, I am in the process of having them replace a second machine under warranty. Each has lasted about one year. I am posting only to urge everyone to register with keurig.com, as I have been SUPER impressed with their customer service and readiness to replace my machine (at their shipping expense) without question after determining they were broken.

Living in LA, we have a Pur filter on our kitchen tap and will drink the water that way, but for the Keurig, I'll only use distilled water. That way I know I'm not getting any build up.

I'm not saying build up is necessarily the problem with your machine as any number of things could go wrong, but just wanted to comment on the water we use since you mentioned the filtered water. :)

QVC has had the Keurig as their today's special value on Thanksgiving or Black Friday (can't remember which but I know it's that weekend). They usually give you a bunch of cups and the extra filter that you can use with your own coffee.

I don't think the Tassimo cups are degradable (we have one and they are a very hard plastic and don't specify what number plastic they are). Tassimo also doesn't have a wide selection of coffees to choose from. If you look in BB&B there are 2 walls of coffees for the K-cup but a small counter with Tassimo.

I've been debating getting the Costco one for sometime and because of the refillable pod. My mother has a Keurig and loves it but did have a problem with the scale buildup. Customer Service talked her through the cleaning procedure and her machine is fine now.

This seems to be a widespread issue. Mine lasted 10.5 months . Just got the new one in about a week ago. I am still using the old one, just takes a little smack on the top to get it going lol. They happily replaced mine no questions asked, arrived in about 3 days. I need to go drop the little piece in the mail that they requested back in the next cpl of days.

Everything I have read on the net is that they have great customer service.

They are coming out with a line of teas in a paper cup soon if it isn't already out. I guess they will test this option before going to it on the coffee cups. Would love if they did this, I really do hate the plastic cups , not a fan of putting it back in the landfills.

Thanks for the input everyone! I've been looking at the various models and I am liking the Cuisinart one, and I do have the 20% coupon for BBB...but reading the replies here I wonder if I want to stick with the Keurig brand since their customer service sounds great (and unfortunately necessary)

Hi, I am also looking at the Cuisinart one and the Breville Gourmet with Iced Beverage Function (in warm weather I am an ICE coffe addict ;)) If anyone has either of these and would like to offer a review?? :) Thanks, Joan

I also got the TSV fro QVC last year for christmas. I also had to have it replaced but then it started working, so I have one for back up just incase. the customer service is great. and don't forget to register at www.keurig.com & you get 2 boxes of cups. Joan, I just read a thread on the Cuisinart over at singleservecoffee.com and it sounds like they had pump issues early on and pulled them from the market for a while. They're back on the market obviously, so I'd assume the issues are resolved, but I would think that if you would buy one you'd want to look at the manufacture date and make sure it is recent and not last spring.

I'm leaning toward the Special Edition pack at BJ's with my $10 off coupon at this point, which I understand is the B60 brewer.
