Posted this question on the resorts board, but it was suggested I try here instead. Does anyone know if kettles are available by request at the Poly? My little one wakes up very early and I want to avoid leaving the room to get hot water for baby cereal. What have others done? Are kettles actually available to those who are travelling with little ones? We're at capacity with what we're bringing in our luggage (we're flying internationally) so I can't bring a kettle in our luggage.

I just run water throught the coffee pot without the coffee. It will warm it right up. I usually use it to make tea, but I would think it would work for baby cereal as well.

how about just a mug in the microwave? you can request one for your room in a deluxe. moderates? I'm not sure? but for a baby they may. also the coffee pot does work very well. I would suggest running a pot though first to toss and then you should be fine. If you are planning an offsite run for snacks etc. Walmart sells a cheapy hotpot electric kettle sort of thing for around $10. or if you are getting a grocery order sent in go with www.wegoshop.com and Marge will pick one up along with your groceries probably. no need to pack more stuff. where there is a will there is a way!

When I first read the title to the post...I'm like...What's a kettle?:confused3
I get it now...:rotfl:

Microwaves are not available for use in guest rooms.

I would just run the water through the coffee maker. Clean it out first and then do several extra runs to flush it out first.

You can purchase an electric kettle and bring it along, I found these with a quick search but I have seen smaller ones for aroudn $10.00 at target or wallmart.

Otherwise you couuld try making it with warm/room temp water and see if baby likes that. Perhaps just for the trip you could buy it premade or substitute a fruit and do the cereal later??

Have fun

I've never made baby cereal, so I'm not sure how hot of water is required... but the hot water straight out of the sinks in the rooms (at least at Poly and WL - the two places I remember) is very, very hot. If you let it run, it gets hot enough that it steams and burns your hands (found this out the hard way). My guess is that you might be able to just use the hot water straight from the tap. When I rinse my mugs out with that water, I feel like I'm practically sterilizing them because the water is so hot, LOL.

Although, also take this as a warning for those of you with kids who might try to turn on the bath water/sink water themselves.

Is it possible to get your little one used to baby cereal made w/room temp water? We always used room temperature water to make his bottles and cereal, and then later he ate his baby food at room temp too. We could also use bottled water this way, which meant I didn't have to stress about the quality of the water (like out of the spring at my grandparent's farm). It really makes mealtimes a lot easier when you don't have to look for a heat source. Just a thought.

OP where are you staying? Deluxes do have microwaves available for guest rooms. We just had one brought to our room upon request at checkin (it made it to the room before we did) I can also second the hot hot tap water but I used bottled water for formula. you can just sit bottle into very hot cup of water to heat that way too. (old fashioned but it works!)

remember for later in day too, most CS or FS restaurants on site are happy to heat up a mug of water for you or they have micros in baby stations as well. I know we have never been refused either a cup of cold water or a teacup of hot water upon request. ( I would just take my botled water up to counter and ask for a mug of heated up water to heat it up in for baby. )

Good luck and have a magical stay! babies rock at Disney.

Wow, sorry for the error - what deluxe were you able to get a microwave?

I was at the Polynesian in December 07 and I was told that only the DVC properties had microwaves because the electrical currents in the rooms wouldn't support a microwave. They told me they don't stock them for guest requests. We were told it was fine to use the food court area microwave instead.

As for restaurants or food courts heating food they will serve you hot water so you can head the babyfood but "in my experience" they will not heat up your food due to health codes. Unfortunately this includes babyfood. So they will serve you a mug of hot water to warm a bottle/jar but they won't heat it for you.

I think Kileybeth's idea of ordering groceries from wegoshop as well as an electric kettle is a great idea. You will save enough on babyfood and diapers vs if purchased on property to make the kettle free !
