Weather. Warm rain.

Well, we pulled back the curtains and it was raining. Just like they had forecast........I had hoped they were as good as our forecasters but unfortunately not!

We had breakfast at the hotel and then legged it to the car. We drove to and parked at the Animal Kingdom and were one of the first. It was still tipping it down. We put on our cagoules and ponchos before we left the car but were soaked by the turnstile so, as far as we were concerned, we couldn’t get any wetter.

So, singing in the rain it was and a day of no queues……………(Also few photographs!) My Nike triax watch was ruined in the humidity within the hour so I thought I ought to be careful.

We went straight to Kilimanjaro safaris where the wait said 15 minutes but we got straight on and our half full jeep left without waiting to fill. We saw a lot of animals elephants, cheetahs, Thompson gazelles, hippos, rhinos, giraffes, zebra to name but a few and I expect the lack of strong sun helped a bit.

We followed this with a train ride to Rafikis planet watch to dry out a bit. It was very quiet there and we had the full run of the computers and all of the sound rooms so spent a long time playing. Tom was working one of the computers which enabled him to follow web cams around the park. He was playing with the camera in an empty pen in the vet centre when he suddenly saw a vet who was moving boxes from one pen to the next. ‘Quick’ he shouted across the room ‘I’ve found a robber!’

We met Pocahontas and Rafiki here and, with no queues, it was good to get a chance to speak with her.

There was a routine operation going on with a skunk in the theatre which we could watch from behind a glass window. All in all this area is very interesting.

After returning to the main park on the train it was still hammering with rain so we took off to a half empty Lion King show. This was the very best show we saw all holiday. Characters and music from the film, singers, dancers, acrobats and fireaters. Just wonderful.

We then moved on to a three quarters empty Tarzan rocks show. Bit loud for the kids but pretty good (difficult to assess after the Lion King) and then it was onto ‘Its tough to be a bug.’ Aghhhhhhhhh. Yuk!

Tom decided he wanted to give Kali River Rapids a go but Kate wasn’t so sure. So, off he went with Andy and laughed all the way. Having got double soaked he got off one boat and straight off another…calling me from the bridge to join him! Yes, it really was that quiet! So, I got double wet and Tom drenched.

We visited the Dinorama area and Tom dragged Andy onto Triceratop spin, while Kate and I waited in the covered walkway laughing at them as it poured down.

We watched the parade which, luckily, the rain stayed off for. I really enjoyed this. The ‘floats’ of animals pushed by CMs and made of wood were so clever. To see a favourite of mine Rafiki again, and the lovely Timon and Pumbaa too….

And who could forget explorer Minnie.......

We picked up some lunch after the parade using the children’s $6 meal, drink and snack vouchers which were very good value. You buy them now from restaurants by the way not guest relations (wasn’t I kind finding that out for you all here on the Dish by walking back to the entrance in the pouring rain from Dinorama to be told they didn’t sell them anymore). Andy had a smoked turkey leg and I grazed from the rucksack.

We saw a few other areas of the park and then went back for a bath. A bath? Go figure.

We decided to eat without driving tonight so a look at the list showed us Bahama Breeze it would be. So, arriving at 6.20 to a full car park we wondered quite what we had let ourselves in for! We checked into the podium and the wait was 45-60. We did fancy a beer or two so decided to wait, took the pager and sat on the decking listening to the live Caribbean music. They also serve the (huge) appetisers here so really a wait doesn’t matter too much. A beer, fresh squeezed orange, and two sodas were $13 with tip. Quite expensive but I’m not sure why as the everything else we had there was exceptionally reasonable. (including the aruba red beer we had indoors at $2.95)

The pager went off when expected and we were shown inside. Its well themed. I really would highly recommend it, the servers were excellent. I had cuban roasted bread to start (delicious…so I shared a little bit but not much!). The children had crispy chicken and mac and cheese. Andy had shrimp linguine. I had a crispy chicken salad. Cannot describe how lovely it was. I could only eat half and they offered me a take out box for the rest! $37 plus tip $8. We took a walk back to the hotel (the restaurant was literally a walk in between two of our complex hotels) picking up an ice cream at the food court for the kids, but they didn’t want it really they were actually very tired.

Tomorrow is the rescheduled Blizzard beach for a couple of hours as we are going to MK late to catch Spectromagic (which wasn’t on last time) and Wishes……..

We did. because my husband works outside and I run a lot we are very used to being out in the rain. It was quite a treat for it to be warm rain not bitter cold!

Glad to hear the rain didn't spoil your day.

I'm enjoying the reports & looking forward to the rest.
