I just did an internet search and I can not find any photos of the kennels in Fort Wilderness. :confused3 We might be bringing our Pomeranian with us and I wanted to see the kennels before I decided for sure. I have to admit, he's our first dog and I feel GUILTY about leaving him!! :guilty: It will be nice to see him during our vacation, but I don't want him to have a rotten time and be all boxed up while we are having fun (and feeling bad about him!) in the Magic Kingdom.

Can anyone help??

I don't have any pictures, but we just returned from Disney with our dog. Most days, she just stayed in our RV, but there was one day that we were going to Animal Kingdom and leaving early and returning late, so we boarded her at the Animal Kingdom kennel. Another day, I walked down to the Fort Wilderness kennel and took a look around, for future reference.

My thoughts-the kennels were nice. There were differennt sizes. If the kennel is not crowded, your dog could have a big kennel. Both kennels were very clean, and the people were friendly and obviously liked animals. I returned at lunch to walk our dog at the Animal Kingdom kennel, and the ladies were talking to the dogs and holding a dog who had been whimpering.

Now, that said, we were at Disney eleven days, and I know that our dog would NOT have liked to be in a kennel the entire time. My guilt would have been HUGE!! Perhaps a few days, but I believe she would have been confused about why we kept coming to visit but would not take her home.

Dogs don't have feelings like people do. Once you leave the kennel, they are into all the other dogs and new smells and when you come back I think they are "Oh hi, I remember you." I've kenneled our dog lots of times and never felt guilty about it.

We have A Pomeranian he goes camping with us all the time. We just leave him in the motorhome when we leave he sleeps or throws a dogging party while we are gone but he love it wouldn't go without him. We would never kennel him he has had kennel cough it cost us $1000 in vet bills never do that again. So just leave him on your site it is nice to come home to.

This was our initial intention (to leave Tazz in the camper). However, we got an opportunity to stay in a cabin at a huge discounted rate (once in a lifetime), we couldn't pass it up.

trlrboy, dogs DO have feelings!! I have no doubt about it. :dog2:

We have walked around the kennel, it seems clean enough, and the attendants really seem to care about the dogs, but speaking as a "mom to a pom", He would be so hurt if I left him in a kennel. We keep him at the site, too many problems that come from kennels. Bordatella is the worst. My baby got it as a puppy form the groomer. If you decide to board, don't forget the shot records!!!

I actually think it would kill my dog to be left in a kennel for a week if we did not come to visit with him. I don't know how he would fare if we did visit with him in a kennel every day. I do know that my dog has terrible separation anxiety and would be physically sick (with constant diarrhea) if I put him in a kennel for a week and we could not see him.

He seems to be best off if we have a close friend pet sit for him in our home. The first time we did this, he was fine until my friend had to go to work. When she got home from work that night, he'd exploded all over the apartment, and I know it was from stress and anxiety. He thought he'd been abandoned. Ever since that time, he's fine with her, and she can go to work all day and it's no problem. In an emergency (that President's Day blizzard a couple years ago) he was left for a couple of days at another friend's apartment (thank God for friends!) because we couldn't get home to him) and was fine.

Even though we don't "need" it, we have a dog walker come walk him a couple of times a week, so that he has a relationship with that person. That way, in an emergency, even if we could not make it home for a couple of days, he would know that he was being taken care of by someone he knows. We once went away for a long weekend, and had our dog walker come in three times a day to walk him, feed him and play with him. He was just great when we got home!

We've had to come up with these alternative solutions, because it would be really difficult to travel with a Rottweiler. Just getting him on an airplane would be a feat! Plus, I'd be worried that he'd be scared on a plane. So, we came up with these ways to travel without bringing him with us, and to tell you the truth, he really enjoys hanging out with my friend.

But, every dog is different. Some dogs love the kennel, but my dog would be a wreck. If your dog is happy in a kennel, consider yourself lucky and make sure he's immunized against kennel cough (mine is because we bring him to a groomer for baths).

Good luck with your Pom! :dog2:

We have left our Yorkie in the kennel many times. They are very nice, very clean. And I think the cast members are all great there. They should be recognized more for all that they do for our 4 legged best friends. The worst part (besides the guilt we feel) of leaving our dog in the kennel is that she comes home exhausted! She gets no sleep in the kennel because of all the barking from all the dogs going on. And of course she just has to stay awake to watch everything that is going on and everyone coming and going the whole time she is there.

Tazz is a VERY social dog....hasn't met a dog, a cat, a rabbit.........he hasn't wanted to socialize with. :cool1: He also loves meeting new people. Maybe this whole kennel thing will be harder on US than it is on him. Who knows, he might view our visits with him as cramping his style!! I wondered how the CMs interacted with the dogs, whether they just totally ignored them or if they talked and petted them. Sounds like the CMs who work there are great with the animals. :dog:

That is great he likes other dogs are Pom hates little dogs loves people and big dogs. How big is Tazz? Are Pom is about 14 pounds.
