mods - this may not be the right place to post this. if not, please feel free to move it.

DH mentioned to me that he'd love to spend a day at kennedy space center after our WDW vacation in may. since this is a trip that's admittedly more for me than him, it's the least i can do. can anyone recommend a hotel in the cape canaveral area? i went to kennedy space center when i was 11, but obviously i don't remember much about it and don't know much about the area. any hotel/restaurant recommendations would be appreciated! thanks!

It's only an hour's drive....you can easily drive over there in the morning..spend the day doing stuff..and still go back to WDW in the evening, that's what I would probably do, it's a daytime thing (it's an all day thing though), but not a day and evening activity, a good day there will cover the whole thing.

I wouldn't get a 2nd hotel, just go there and back for the day.

what we thought about doing is just checking out of the hotel at WDW on thursday morning, then driving to cape canaveral and spending the day, getting a hotel around there and driving home (to atlanta) friday. all our days at WDW are planned out and i'm not changing those (because i've already done it so many times already). so i think driving there and getting a hotel around there is a better option for us. but thanks for the suggestion!

I don't know what your price range is, but I would highly recommend the Country Inn and Suites. There is one in the Cocoa Beach area. We have never stayed in that particular hotel, but we have stayed at several Country Inn and Suites in different states. We have never had a bad stay with them. Each time the employees have gone above and beyond. Plus, in our experience, they are always clean and very comfortable.

BTW - my DH is a huge KSC nut. He has to go there every time he goes to FL. We were just there the end of January. That was my second time and it was very interesting. I love looking for alligators and the eagle's nest while on the bus tour. I have a little written about it in my trip report (link in sig), if you're interested. Also, the base ticket now includes a second day for free. It's a good deal!!

HTH!!

There are nice places like Ron Jon's Resort,The Resort on Cocoa Beach in the area but if you would like something a bit different than your "normal" resorts and hotels, I recommend checking out this B&B near the KSC:

Here is also a Q&A section to the KSC that may help answer some of your questions and further links to area hotels. Please fell free to PM with any others.

Imho make a day of it and enjoy the many exhibits. Hope you enjoy your visit.

have you stayed at casa coquina before? i looked at the website and it looks like a very unique place. i'm just wondering if it's clean and if the breakfast is any good?

I don't know about hotels, but Kennedy is a great place. We had a great time there, and got to see Discovery sitting on the launch pad. It really takes a FULL day to see everything, though. Our tickets included IMAX movies that we didn't have time to see, several exhibits we missed, talks with astronauts, etc. My advice is to get there first thing in the morning and stay as late as you feel comfortable. Your ticket is actually good for 2 consecutive days if you wanted to break it up. :) The ticket lines were long when we were there so you might want to look into getting your tickets online ahead of time. Definitely check out the KSC webpage, too. There's some good info there.
