Kennedy Space Center from BWV????

We are planning a trip next year to BWV with my parents (66 & 71years old). My dad is really interested in going to Kennedy Space Center. We were just at BWV last month and I forgot to check if there were any tours from the hotel or if they had any information to distribute.

Does anyone have any advice on getting to the space center from BWV? We may or may not have a car. I also have a 6 & 8 year old, but not sure if they would want to leave Disney to go to the space center. I think my parents would like to just drive there for the day and come back, but what do other people do?

I was supposed to check all this out while we were on vacation, but I guess I was having too much fun and forgot. Now I'm trying to plan our next vacation and need to figure out if the space center is an ok day trip from BWV or if we have to plan a separate trip before or after BWV.

We have been over to KSC several times. We always have a car/van. It takes about 1 to 1 1/4 hour to drive over. Plan on spending a whole day there to see everything.

If you do not have a rental car, several of the towncar services do runs over there. There is the sponsor here (forget the name), Tiffany Towncar and others. Do a search and check their websites. I think Mears may also have van runs over there.

Thank you so much for the information!!! It is much closer than I thought. I didn't have the space center link. My parents will like to check that out.

If we don't rent a car for the week, we may get one for the day for the space center trip. We used Tiffany Towncar on our trip last month and they were EXCELLENT! We usually drive alot at home on a daily basis, so no driving on a vacation is treat for us.

We did the space center last year - drove from Vero Beach for the day. It was worth doing, but it is a long day. Be sure to get there early. We took our children ages 7 and 9. They enjoyed it, but parts can get a bit boring. Try to pick and choose your activities. There is a long bus tour with 3 stops where you get out and see things. We only got out at 2 of those stops, with the Apollo one being the best. There are well-done IMAX movies, too.

Be sure you don't accidently pick a day that will be having a shuttle launch. On launch days, everything changes. Passes are required to get in, and traffic is horrendous.

Although, watching a launch is a spectacular experience in it's own right.

Hi Tss2. i just returned from a 2 week stay at the Dolphin, which is right next door to BWVs. We had a launch during our stay which we were able to see right from our East Wing room. It was wonderful. I've also seen launches from the observation deck of the Contemporary resort.

Anyway, the Dolphin works with a tour group that will transport you to and from the lobby of the Dolphin right to the launch area viewing site. For $45.00 pp I thought it was a great deal for such a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It's a totally different effect when you get to see and feel the launch up close. It's just mind-boggling.

If you know there will be a launch during your stay I would call or drop by the concierge desk at the Dolphin once you arrive at BWVs. They had flyers on the concierge counter advertising the launch a full week prior to the date. There's a number on there to call to secure your spot on th bus. Please do let us know how you make out whichever way you decide.

Wow! Lots of great information! We are planning our trip Nov 9-16, 2002. I suppose I should read on the Space center website about dates of future launches. I'm glad there are so many options available. Thanks again everyone!
