starts in 10 minutes. I'm taping the whole thing. It's on PBS and runs all week, each night a new section. Family viewing at it's finest!

I watched tonight's episode this afternoon. gorgeous! and so interesting. I've been to many of our national parks and would love to take my family to them someday.

I'm going to watch it when it repeats. Amazing Race is at 7pm and the National Parks program repeats at 9pm I think. (this is all Hawaii time)

I am LOVING this!!!!! I am learning things I never knew about our National Parks. We will definitely be taping the rest of the series.

Oooo! It's showing here, too! I've been wanting to see this since they started advertising it a year and a half ago. :cool1: I've been to several national parks.

Ken Burns does great documentaries. :thumbsup2 Not the usual snoozers. :faint:

I think I'll watch it...I've got something to watch at 10 (Eastern Time) but I'm assuming this will be off by then. I took a class called Geology of the National Parks in college and it was extremely interesting. Twelve of us (all women) even went to Arizona on a "field trip."

Thanks for the heads up! I was looking forward to it, but lost track of time and would've missed it. I'm recording the series. :)

We watched it this afternoon when it was on too. Its on several times a day. Check listings. 6 episodes for 6 days this week.

We enjoyed tonights because we visited Yosemite, Mariposa Grove and Muir Woods last year. It was nice to learn more about him.

Next year, we are going to Mt Rainier.

I've always felt I live on the wrong side of the United States. I've had a fascination with pioneers, wagon trains, and gold rushes. I would love to just pack it up here and head west to just explore this country of ours. DH is ready to leave it behind too. Like they explained, the outdoors are restorative for us. I feel at peace more on a mountain top than I ever have in a church. It could be my American Indian heritage too. :goodvibes

I have a few nuggets of information for you then...
Did you know the first gold rush in this country did not take place in California but instead took place in Virginia? Gold was first discovered in 1804 with the peak of production being in 1847, the year gold was discovered in California.
Did you know that Conestoga wagons date from sometime in the late 1700s and were named for the place they were invented? (the Conestoga Valley near Lancaster, Pennsylvania)
and that some of the first wagon trains in this country traveled the routes of Braddock's Road and The National Pike (still in existence today and known as "Old Route 40"), going from the settled East into the Wild West beyond the mountains?
Did you know that 'the West' used to be considered any land west of the Appalachians, and that Western Pennsylvania and Ohio and Kentucky were considered to be 'the frontier' as late as the American Revolution and into the late 1700s/early 1800s?

And I do have to say, I looooooove your taste in travel - I've never been to Yosemite. I think if anyone is even thinking of going to any National Park sometime in the coming year, they should make their reservations *now*. This series is probably going to make the Parks even more popular and crowded.

agnes!
PS - And I kind of think a mountain top is God's church :-).

I've always said I feel closer to God when I'm out in the nature that He created (whether that be on a mountain top or by the ocean) than I do in a manmade church. That's as religious as I'll get on these boards but I have always felt that way.

Thanks for posting this, shortbun! I heard friends talking about this last night at my DD's volleyball game, but wasn't sure what exactly they were talking about, now it all clicks! We missed last night, but I will record the rest of the week, my kids will be excited! They love the National Parks!

A beautiful and interesting series by a wonderful director... :goodvibes

I watched it Sunday afternoon and loved it, especially since I had been to both Yosemite & Yellowstone. I plan to watch it every night this week.

I've been to Acadia National Park in Maine also. Your location says "south of Old Town". As in Maine? I'm going to be south of Old Town, ME on Columbus Day weekend.
