.......yes it is up for grabs ,its no different from moving a parked car, someone will take that spot
I hope you never have a disability where you have to use the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes or that you have any number of disabilities where you cannot sit for any longer than 10-15 minutes, If you want a spot up front for the parade then go find one earlier you will find one. or are you scared you will be the one that will need to get up to go use the bathroom

And for the record, you want someone at the pool to sit there all day and not go in the water? As soon as they leave the chair to get a drink or take a dip, you think that chair is open?
of course not , as long as there is flip flops or something other than a white towel of course they will be in and out the water but if they just leave a towel and go off for lunch then no not acceptable if other people have no chair..

.....Sorry i dont agree with that statement .there is no saving,if you want a place you should sit in it!...I know that sounds harsh for people with toddlers that find it hard to sit and equally for older people like myself that has cramp after about 15 minutes but that is how it has to be to be fair..

My avatar is our picture sitting in our spots for the Halloween Party. Met families around us we didn't know, but chatted with for the while we waited and we all took turns saving spots when others had to use the washroom.

I would never think to sit in someone's spot just because they had to get up to use the washroom, ridiculous.

That is ignorant statement which i will ignore!!

But you responded to it...

OP, I'm sorry you had a tough time, but it's clear many people here don't agree with your hardline stance on this. That doesn't mean you're wrong, just that different people have different opinions. I hope you were still able to have fun on your trip regardless.

I don’t usually hold spots for the entire family. It’s more like someone said that I’ll save a spot for one person to go run to the bathroom. So, when I do it, I just sit in the middle of the space so that it’s not enough room to fit anyone else. So I won’t tell anyone they can’t sit somewhere, but I will not move over to make room until my party comes back b/c that is my spot. If someone wants the spot, they shoulda got there when I did. I don’t have any sympathy for “everyone desperately trying to find a space”. I would love to do whatever it is ppl are doing up to that last minute before they look for the “perfect” space, but I sacrifice my time to get the spot.

You could “save” a parking space too. Doesn’t happen at WDW but happens here with football games for tailgating spots. Ppl put chairs or items in spots & it’s respected that the spot it saved. The common understanding is that if you wanted that spot, you should gotten have gotten there earlier or got someone to save you a spot. Someone could move the chairs & park there, but ppl don’t.

We ALL sat in our spot for over an hour for HEA last week. Didn't make any difference. When the show started, people crowded into the "walking only aisle" and proceeded to put their kids on their shoulders right in front of us. These people didn't wait for any amount of time and CMs did nothing to make them move.

We will probably never wait again and just catch it from wherever we are, but we had one member who could not stand for very long, so we had found spots to sit and wait.

We usually lay out a small blanket in the hub on our way to our BOG PPO ADR. It's the best way to save that perfect spot for the parade later that day! The way I see it, if someone else wanted that spot they should have started saving it the night before.

Once, we forgot our blanket in our resort room though so we had to employ Plan B: sidewalk chalk!

The fact that people tend to avoid moving the chairs doesn't mean that they "respect" the practice or that there's a "common understanding". It's just as likely due to them worrying that the unreasonable space saver will get enraged upon the chair being moved, and key that person's car.

People usually avoid calling out strangers on bad behavior. This is not usually due to approval of the bad behavior, but rather due to a desire to avoid conflict.

While I do agree that spreading out a bunch of towels or ponchos to save a spot for someone who hasn't even arrived yet and may not arrive for who knows how long is a bit of a stretch, I will NEVER agree that someone going to the bathroom is giving up their spot if they have otherwise been there the whole time. That's just silly. I am glad most people are reasonable about that sort of thing since going to the bathroom is a natural body function that not everyone has control over.

I echo another poster OP... be glad you don't have a disability that impacts your bladder or bowels. Maybe some compassion is in order.

I’m assuming you’re mocking ppl, but if WDW allowed it, ppl would do it & I don’t have a problem with that either. In New Orleans, for many spots on the parade route during Mardi Gras, many ppl stake out spots days in advance. Same thing with tailgating at the university campus (but just the night before). And, it’s all allowed. You want that spot, you get there as early as it takes. But, I get that wouldn’t work nor should it at WDW. But, I guess I don’t have a problem with ppl saving spots like has been mentioned b/c I come from an area where this is the norm. I’ve grown up knowing, you want a spot, you gotta get there to save it.

.......Sorry i do not agree with this, once you leave your spot is gone!!
Everyone is desperately looking for a spot and its not fair that you should not endure the heat and the cramped legs like others and still sit at the front!
So I guess they should just pee in the sidewalk?

Perhaps in some cases b/c I can’t know how everyone feels, but everyone I know or have heard comment on it respects it as that is a saved spot & that’s ok.

Nope. The spot is openly available to all and they fairly got there before you and saved the spot. You had equal access and chose not to sacrifice that time.

I don't mind if one person saves a spot for a few people. It bugs me when people show up at the last minute and try to squeeze me out of my spot. Get there earlier people!

This. THIS. So much this. A measly 1.2% might have legitimate reasons for showing up late and not being able to stake out a spot earlier. The rest are an entitled rude bunch of jerks who have no respect for others, subscribe to the "me and only me" theory, and think nothing of infringing upon other people's enjoyment if it benefits their own agenda.
