Keeping cell phone cool in summer

We're heading to WDW on July 21st. How do I keep my cell phone from overheating? I think I've seen the cell phone cool bags on Amazon. Do those work, has anyone used them before?
Thanks!

We visit WDW every summer and never have to worry about a phone overheating. It's not a good idea to leave it in the hot sun at the pool for hours or anything like that, but even in that scenario all it takes is a towel on top to keep it out of the sun. No special contraptions required.

Hmm, it seems my phone is temperamental then. Our temps get to 110 here at home and if I'm outside for long, the phone gets very warm.

What kind of phone? Just curious. I have an IPhone XS and it’ll over heat in sunlight but like others have said if it’s in your pocket or bag it should be fine.

Samsung Galaxy 10. I'm noticing that even when the air temp gets really, really hot here, it will start having overheating fits o_O

If you’re eating outside, don’t leave it out on the table in the sun. I made this mistake a few weeks ago and my IPhone XR entered an overheat shutdown mode. I’m lucky it wasn’t permanently damaged.

As several of the PP's have said, there is no worry about the phone overheating in normal use. Just don't leave it out exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.

Cell phones shouldn't overheat in normal use. If yours does, I would take it back to the phone store where you got it and have them determine what is wrong. Could be a defective battery or some other type of electronic issue. Lithium ion batteries can overheat or even catch fire if dropped/damaged or has some sort of manufacturing defect.

This...
Battery issues could be the culprit. Do you keep it plugged into a charging block? That could do it also. Sometimes if the apps aren't releasing and as previously said they are running in the background it can overheat. I live in Florida, not far from the parks (same geographic area for a weather comparison) and don't have an overheating issue normally. I have an older Samsung (2014) and have replaced the battery once and again, no problem normally. The only time I have had it overheat was on a long trip using Google Maps with it plugged in the entire trip.
Bottom line, you should have it checked as overheating on a regular basis isn't normal.

I had an iphone overheat only once when it was in direct sun for a few hours. I'd think it is going to be fine as long as it's in a pocket or bag. as for android phones, I know nothing

It depends on the age of the phone if it will overheat or not, especially if you're running an intensive app*. The best thing is to put it away whenever you can, turn off background apps, and not to put it on a metal table in direct sunlight.

*I have no idea how intensive Disney apps are, but I don't have high hopes for their efficiency.

That's a thing that happens?? I was on my phone all day long and never once had it overheat.

My iPhone 11 pro overheats all the time. I use a case so not sure if that affects it negatively or not. I would assume so. It lowers the screen brightness super low so thats its impossible to see in bright light.

My iPhone 11 gets quite warm in the summer too - in Florida and in Pennsylvania.
A couple times I would put it against the cup of ice water to cool it off.

My android doesn't even overheat running WAZE, and me playing Candy Crush for 5 hours while driving to WDW and plugged in lol. is overheating an iPhone thing?

My Android doesn't overheat to the point that it shuts down, but there are a couple things that make it get pretty hot: using it in direct sunlight, and using a slow charger (the built in USB port in my car charges really slowly).

I mean it doesn't do it inside, in the shade, in moderate temps. But in sunlight, with my warm hand holding it, and multi tasking it will.

Fascinating. Have still never had it happen. I wouldn't leave my phone out on a table in the sun in Florida but have walked the parks holding it and using it.

Thanks to all who've replied - some good tips here! I think at the start of the trip (and periodically) I'll shut down any apps running in the background, keep the power saver off, and not keep it out of my bag when not in use. Oh forgot, that might be like NEVER since I have to use it for Genie+ all day
