Keeping cell phone cool in summer

Thanks to all who've replied - some good tips here! I think at the start of the trip (and periodically) I'll shut down any apps running in the background, keep the power saver off, and not keep it out of my bag when not in use. Oh forgot, that might be like NEVER since I have to use it for Genie+ all day
Power saver on. not off. this will force any background stuff to not work while its on. Like notifications other than texts and calls.

You could just stick it in airplane mode. That pretty much shuts down everything till you turn it off again. Easier than messing with several things

Airplane mode is great for battery saving, as long as your entire party stays together. We often split off from grandparents for faster rides, and grandparents text me with location where they find shade for a break. I once made mistake of leaving airplane mode on, and only realized when my after-ride text to them didn’t go through 🤦‍♀️

My cell phone overheated and shut down twice on my last visit to Epcot earlier this year. I kept it in the side pocket of my backpack, except for when I was taking pictures. I put it inside my bag and zipped it up. It cooled it off enough that I could take more pictures. I am thinking about keeping a few ice packs in my backpack during my next trip. I take storage containers into the park with me so I can take left overs to my hotel to eat later.

My android doesn't even overheat running WAZE, and me playing Candy Crush for 5 hours while driving to WDW and plugged in lol. is overheating an iPhone thing?
I’ve had iPhones since they first came out and never had a problem with overheating. I keep mine in my purse unless I’m using it. My texts and notifications come to my Apple Watch, so I don’t need to get the phone out for those
