Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

How did water enter your room? Patio door? Did they look at it? Can't imagine they'd refuse to move you...There had to be another room for you SOMEWHERE?

CBR does not have Patio doors. 99.99% chance it entered under the door. It is due to how the buildings are laid out at CBR. If your door sits on the wrong angle Rain will be driven under the doors during TS or Hurricanes.

Not sure they wanted to be moved vs reporting multiple issues to the Front Desk as we often encourage here on the DIS. They also had issues receiving any communications about the preparations for the Hurricane. As International Guests it appeared they did not get some of the limited MDE Push notifications.

An Information Sheet used to be placed in each room in the old days followed by a mas phone message to the in-room phones. That did not happen at CBR this time or multiple resorts based in posts here on DIS.

As to TV, in a "catastrophic disaster" impacting almost the entire state, there needs to be a realization that some expectations may not be met.

Well it can be catastrophic to the Guests if you are traveling internationally with small children and in 2024 your resort room TV can't Cast content from your smartphone, Stream, or even have OnDemand programming to keep children occupied while being asked to remain in their rooms for 12 hours.

Understood. Didn't realize it was CBR. I've stayed often.
I agree-under the door paper notification was almost foolproof back in the day & I prefer it too.
I used the term "catastrophic disaster" to illustrate that in hurricane & tornado circumstances, the loss of cable, internet or phone is often unavoidable. (Those who've survived a hurricane will understand) Such weather events are under no one's control. I've stayed at Poly when there was a gas issue yrs ago & some restaurants served only cold food & during a hurricane where MANY out of state 1st responders were being sheltered, some lounging on the floor in the POP Lobby (no more rooms available), eating sandwiches. I was grateful they were there to help FLA recover, tho the "Disney Theming" atmosphere wasn't the same. My family counted our blessings.
As to TV & water in the room & any of the other inconveniences and disappointments, I completely understand. Moving to a different room (IF available) would have been reasonable. Being restricted to your room with your own children for 12 hours with no TV is NOT "catastrophic."
Sometimes, even the most magical place can be thwarted. We are ALL fortunate WDW did not incur serious damage while guests (& the CMs trying to help them) were there.
Finally, I hope all guests there will be patient for the next few days with CMs who are cleaning up, repairing & helping neighbors and family recover.

One of the wall panelling peeled off and the water seeped through the walls under the aircon. The TV was not working even BEFORE the hurricane and it's still not fixed.

After seeing sandbags being placed at public balcony doors at AKV the last storm we rode out there...

Helped ourselves to many pool towels & fashioned our own rolls.

That sort of AC unit likely not water tight for those high winds

Do u mean no satellite signal on the tv? Happens often here in PA with DTV even if it's just raining

Being stuck in small hotel room for hours with kids is admittedly no picnic. Still, sounds as though you made it thru without experiencing serious damages. Hopefully, you are able to enjoy the remainder of your trip

We did get in a little early on 2606 today. Honestly we had such good luck I couldn’t believe after a 2 day delay from Milton. Our luggage came down the conveyor belt as we walked up, our rental car was waiting for us before we even got our luggage, and traffic was super light from the airport to BWV. We landed at 11:35 and were at MK by 1:35. Probably the best afternoon at MK. Between the light crowd from it being a party day and trips delayed/cut short by the hurricane we did SO much before the park closed to day guests at 6. We rode Buzz, Haunted Mansion (twice), Barnstormer, Under the Sea, Winnie the Pooh, Big Thunder, Tiana, Space Mountain, and Tron (twice).

When we were there a couple of weeks ago we saw a VIP tour being escorted out a door right beside the restrooms by Soarin' and I could see a vehicle waiting so that makes sense if it flooded there since it is directly beside a driveway/parking area.

I'm very sorry your visit was plagued with issues. You definitely deserved a better room!
I've stayed at most Resorts over the decades, including during hurricanes. Sometimes a different room is not available, but I've usually been accommodated. I always ask if it is a normal situation but the room is in disrepair.
Maybe w/o TV you haven't seen the extent of damage & disruption to some areas nearby, especially cable. I attribute any extended issues (TV) to that.

Before Poly refurb when hallway carpets were replaced, many complained...My now grown son misses it though...

Great. Now there are two potential storms in the next two weeks. We felt for all those who endured Helene and Milton. My brother and SIL and family in western NC and family in Orlando. Now we may have to make a decision as perhaps a Nicole and/or Oscar may be causing trouble.

I will take our ears and aloha Disney shirts out of our bags and we will head anywhere SWA flies if either looks like it will hit. I'd go back to Grand Canyon again in a hot second, but getting a room at El Tovar is tough any time of year. Haven't looked into it yet, but we will go somewhere!

Before Poly refurb when hallway carpets were replaced, many complained...My now grown son misses it though...

I'm curious too. I've heard the same info from my daughter but I believe she gets her "news" from ticTok. I believe the National Hurricane Center info is accurate. It also doesn't sensationalize the weather in order to get more clicks.

I was watching Brian Shields, meteorologist aka Mr Weatherman on YouTube. There is an area in the Yucatan Peninsula is apparently causing a huge amount of rain and he says it is "tricky" if it will end up a tropical storm or higher. There is another disturbance off the coast of Africa which he is watching. Potentially Nicole and Oscar. Time will tell. Glad we bought travel insurance through DVC!
