Keeping an eye on Tropical Weather 2024

I also live along the Gulf Coast, and every year we prepare a whole Hurricane kit-food that doesn't need refrigeration, extra meds, etc. The other day my coworker was eating her "Hurricane tuna", because she said she figured hurricane season was about over. Apparently Rafael didn't get that memo. He's been everywhere!
Maybe he’s looking for the best hurricane party . . .

Here we go again . . . Local news says a hurricane is definitely forming, to be named Sara. Current prediction looks like a Cat 2 at landfall. Track is uncertain as it will depend on when high pressure shifts and when a front comes through, but likely to be south or central Florida. Anyone planning to be at Disney midweek next week should be keeping an eye on this in case it poses a threat to Orlando.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’ve been so busy packing for our trip next week I didn’t consider checking on this. Would be a big bummer…maybe it’ll steer off somewhere. Sigh.

Also on this note…not sure if I should move our MVMCP to Thursday now before it’s too late if this thing is supposed to hit Tues/Weds. We would lose all of the LL that we booked and dining reservations we booked 60 days out. 😭 This happened to us when we went 3 yrs ago too.

We’re almost a week out. Things can change. My trusted weather man has postponed putting out his elaborate Christmas display.

When Helene was predicted, the timeline kept getting pushed back. I left Florida and headed to my nephew’s house. Ended up staying 5 nights because of the timeline and the flooding afterwards.

Yes, it’s early days yet. I have two favorite sites I monitor, and one is showing a landfall in the panhandle between Pensacola and Tallahassee, and the other showing it going across the southern end of the peninsula, coming ashore near Ft. Myers. These are the models for the latest run on my local news, and they are still all over the place.

That’s what I’m seeing in Tampa news too. Either a south Florida or central Florida landfall. South would be stronger than central.

This is the hurricane season that doesn’t want to end this year.
What year was it that we had named storms all the way into January? Maybe 2005? I remember they had to start using the Greek alphabet for names because all the ones on the list were used. Seems like the last storm that season ended the first week of January.

I am so ready for this season to end . . . 😭

I’m there 11/16-11/22. I have a friend sending me all sorts of weather reports. It’s too early to know if I should change anything right?

I am having the same dilemma. Party on Tuesday, which may be fine. But afraid Friday will sell out before we know for sure.

My mom is on a cruise in around the Keys and Nassau. She should be back to Miami by Friday. Would this affect her any? This is her first cruise too.

Exactly. I think we’re just going to keep Tuesday and see how it plays out. It could stall etc. who knows I guess. Hopefully we’ll know more this weekend and can make better informed decisions.

If she is on the cruise now and returning this Friday, the 15th, she should be fine. I just watched my local noon news and they aren’t expecting it to move into the Gulf until early next week.

I follow him too. The consensus in the comments was that we want to see him chasing frosty down to road 😂

I've kept the NOAA page open the last few weeks to monitor developing storms, but didn't really expect anything this late in the season, even though I know it technically goes until the end of the month.

We're sort of in wait-and-see mode too. I fly in on Tuesday morning and various family members are coming in Wed and Thursday. I just let my family members know to watch banners on their apps, etc.
