Keep Mama Melrose Package or 50's

Hi!
My family and I are going to Disney in September. We will be at MGM on Sunday Sept. 16. We have never seen Fantasmic, or even gone to MGM.
We are on the dining plan and we have 2 children who will be 10 and 12 at the time of travel. I currently have a 5:30pm ADR for Fantamic package at Mama Melrose. My children will be splitting adult meals at most of the places we're eating. I understand they'll both need to use a ddp credit for the package at MM though.
Since we've never been to either restaurant, I'm torn. I think the idea of a almost guaranteed seat at Fantasmic sounds great! But I also love the idea of the theming at 50's.
Should we keep our Fantasmic Package at Mama Melrose or go for 50's Primetime and just get in line an hour before Fantasmic?
Will we need to get in line an hour early on Sunday Sept.16?
Will we need the Fantasmic Package to get decent seats?

You only need the package when the park is very very busy (to insure you get a seat).

I would go with the Prime time, and still atttend Fantasmic. That time of year getting a seat will be very very easy (unless the show was rained out the prior night)

I was there last year the third week of september and did the Melrose dinner package I was not impressed I would have had a better seat if I walked in and we ended up going about 45 minutes early right from the restaurant anyway. I would say choose the place you think your family would like I can't see you not getting into Fantasmic.

I would have to say stay with Mama melrose. 50's is ok, but to me its more of a place to have lunch. Mama's was pretty good..good food, nice place to eat and it is nice to have the pass for the seating for fantasmic. you wont have to worry about not having a seat or having a bad seat if you get there when they tell you to arrive for the show.

i would go for mama melrose.

I have to agree w/ the pp... dont subject yourself to MM, imo: the food was awful... they need to update thier menu and clean up the place...

I would definately go with 50's Prime Time...It is much much better than MM.

I would steer clear of Mama Melrose's. It was the most disappointing meal of our trip. And like most have said, it will probably be much easier to get a seat without the Fantasmic package at the time of year you are going.

I'm surprised to hear the bad reviews on Mama Melrose's....I've eaten there twice, in November 2005 and September 2006 (and had the Fantasmic package) and enjoyed it both times...I got the Chicken Parmesean.....I've been to 50's too but I enjoyed Mama's more.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great meal!!!!

I can't suggest which restaurant, but I will say that the "reserved" section for fantasmic is nothing special. If you have any concern about getting a seat, do the package because fantasmic is super awesome--not to be missed!!

We have eaten at 50s a few times and love it, the food and atmosphere is always the best..the cocktails are killer too

We ate at MM this past Dec, tried many times to get in s we were excited to finally try the place. Not impressed at all, the food was served room temp and there wasnt any flavor at all. I liked Olive Garden better than this place.

Avoid MM and go with 50's. You can get a good seat at Fantasmic if you arrive about an hour early. Enjoy!
