This is so bizarre! Why make something like this up? The mayor here says he never even spoke with her (could be covering his tracks too who knows).

Washington, August 4 - Republican Representative Katherine Harris says she regrets making the claim that a plot existed to blow up the power grid in Carmel, a notion city officials disputed. Harris, a Florida lawmaker, made the comments about terrorism and the Carmel plot on Monday at a rally for President Bush in
Florida and in a subsequent interview with the Sarasota Herald-Tribune newspaper.

She told the audience that while in the Midwest recently, the mayor of Carmel told her how a man of Middle Eastern heritage had been arrested and hundreds of pounds of explosives were found in his home.

City officials in Carmel say they know of no such plot. A spokeswoman for the Carmel mayor says the mayor never talked to Harris.

Here is another longer article...

Is this the same woman who made a stupid statement regarding an incident involving a principal and a student??

Kim:sunny:

My guess is she is vying for Annie Jacobsen's freelance job writing fictional terrorist accounts for the Women's Wall Street Journal web site.

That name sounds familiar. Was she in charge of elections in FL last go round? Or maybe Attorney General or something?

my3kids...you've got it!

Used to be FL SecState in 2000 -- then when she decided to run for Congress, she "forgot" to resign her post as SecState as required by the FL state constitution -- it was a "procedural error" on her part.

She's nothing if not colorful ... or is that controversial?

How strange. Carmel is actually a suburb if Indy that is just over the line to the north (rather than 10 miles away). It is 3 miles or so from my house. Nothing like this has been reported in the press here at all.

Remember the N.E. blackout a few months back? The company that monitors the grid that has taken on some of the blame for missing things that lead to the balckout is in Carmel. I'm wondering weather she's getting events jumbled together.

Galahad,

I also live here and it sure has been reported in local press. That first article was straight from wthr.com and it was on local news last night. I can't comment on newspapers as I haven't looked in the last few days.

Ah, well I stand corrected. I Don't watch TV much. What I meant though is not that the Katherine Harris story hadn't been reported, but that a thwarted terrorist plot....that would suposedly have happened some time ago...was never reported.

I'm thinking we need to cut Ms. Harris some slack. After all, she does come from and represent a state where hundreds and maybe thousands of people are unable to figure out how to read or cast a ballot properly. Compared to that, Ms. Harris is practically a candidate for Mensa!
