Kate's Back on Track Journal - comments welcome

Yum, that shrimp sounds great! I'll have to try it, thanks for sharing the recipe!

Kate, thanks for the recipe. I've printed it up. It looks like an easy recipe for when I'm in a hurry. Dh hates rice but I think I'll just have the shrimp with veggies instead. Great job on losing .2! :cool1:

Ran 5 miles this morning, felt good, but need to get here more regularly and post my food, etc.

Too much stuff to do and too little time! :sunny:

Hope you all enjoy the shrimp.

We had a fun weekend here, celebrating our Art Museum's 125th anniversary, all sorts of activities going on.
Also by the river there was GoettaFest. Goetta - a Cincinnati oddity. Very yummy, but sooooo bad. It's basically pork mixed with fine oatmeal, and usually cooked by frying it. Loads of fat, etc. I've heard it compared to scrapple, if you know what that is, but I think it tastes better. :teeth:

Anyway, they had booths with local restaurants who made things using goetta. pizza, tacos, eggrolls, grilled cheese, even fudge and donuts! Of course, we had to try bites of this and that, but didn't do too bad overall.

Went to a cookout at my SIL's on Sunday, they have a huge house and yard, very nice inground pool, my girls were in the pool the entire time, they love it.

ok, gotta get to work. :sunny:

Wow, 5 miler!!!!! Thats amazing! Great job!
No wonder your weigh 20 less than me! Glad you had a great time at your sils! No matter how you post it - I don't think that Goetta stuff would tempt me - you must have to be raised on it! Sounds like you had a fun weekend!

That Goetta sounds pretty gross, but I thought chocolate oatmeal sounded gross and now I'm an addict!

You are doing great with your running. I need to try my Kashi-n-yogurt with pineapple, I bet that is delicious!

More running today, in the drizzle, but that was nice as it was still high 70's already at 6:30 am.

Jane, the goetta is definitely a taste you probably need to grow up with.

Amy, I like the coconut creme pie flavor of yogurt with the pineapples, or there's another one that's pina colada, I think, love all those tropical flavors!

I'm with you on the tropical things. Anything pineapple, mango, papaya or guava, I'm all over it! I always tell DH that if something happens and I lose my job I am moving to Fiji and opening a tropical fruit stand.

Great job getting that run in even with the drizzle. :cheer2:

Wow Kate, incredible job with the running. I guess you really do learn something new every day, today for me its all about Goetta! Sort of sounds like chicharrones which is a Mexican specialty here of fried pork bits. The oatmeal helps provide some needed fiber with your local pork thing however! I love reading your journal, you motivate me!

Yah!! My official WI day is Friday, but I weighed this morning and it said 134.4!! First time I've been under 135 since before summer!

Now, to not go up anymore, and make it come down steadily, bit by bit.

Fractions of a pound per week are ok by me. I've done this long enough to know that at this point, it will take a while, and not to get discouraged (easier said than done!!) I'd love to be back at 125 by Christmas, but that might be a little optimistic. Staying motivated is hard at times, but being here with the WISH friends makes it easier!! :goodvibes

Amy, I'll help you run the tropical fruit stand! I have one daughter who doesn't like 'normal' fruit, she only likes pineapple, melon, kiwi, etc. One of my other DD's doesn't like pineapple at all - not sure how she's my kid!! LOL

Amy, now I have to look for chicharrones if I ever get out west. Always want to try new things, even if they aren't very healthy!

Had a good run this morning, and a nice day with my DH and kids.

Not sure what dinner will be tonight, something easy.

We bought the last of the school supplies today, DS goes back (high school) on Thursday, the younger girls on the 22nd, and DD college starts on 8-28. She did find a new (used) car yesterday, which has been a concern, but now that's one more thing taken care of. :sunny:

Wow Kate, congratulations on being under 135! That must feel so great, it sounds like all your running and good food choices have paid off, good for you :thumbsup2 ! Thats also good news you found your daughter a car before she starts college. I am so not ready for that kind of thing with my kids but with the way time is going it will be here soon enough. Keep up all your good work, you are really an inspiration!

wow 5 miles, well done!
Congratualtions on getting under 135, wish i was there with you.....one day :)

Yay on the weigh-in! All that running is really paying off for you! :thumbsup2

My kids are opposites when it comes to fruit. DS will eat cherries, apples, pears and grapes. DD won't touch any of those except grapes, but she will eat strawberries, pineapple, bananas and cantaloupe. It makes it pretty hard to shop at the produce section!

You are doing awesome, keep it up! :cheer2:

sounds like you had a fabulous trip, Kate! & below 135 .....WOW!!!! Congrats!!

Have a great week!!

Well, once again, I had a good week exercise wise, pretty good with the food, but the scale yesterday for WI was back up to 135.2. Not a huge increase, but darn it!! I want it to go down, not up!! :rotfl:

DH and DD21 are in Minneapolis for the weekend to see a special art exhibit. It was DD's first time flying, and of course they hit delays, due to a back up in Chicago they didn't leave from here until 2 hours later than originally scheduled, sat in the plane the whole time! Anyhow, they were gone last night, youngest DD had a girl scout sleepover, DS was working, so it was just me and DD13 here.

We had a girls night, we watched movies and really pigged out on ice cream! :confused3 Haven't done that in a long time, but I had ice cream with banana, hot fudge, and marshmallow creme. It tasted great, but I ate all that, and afterwards felt almost sick. :guilty: Today its back to health food!!

Isn't it amazing how your body reacts to sweet stuff after you've been eating healthy for so long? I guess that is our hint that it likes the healthy stuff better...

Wow, your DD hasn't flown before? I think my kids have logged more frequent flier miles than some adults I know! And what a rotten first experience for her, I hope it didn't turn her off flying for good...

You are still doing great, don't let that little gain get you down!

The girls night sounds like lots of fun, you have to treat yourself once in a while :)

Sounds like my kind of dessert! :thumbsup2 Glad you had a great time with your daughter. She'll probably never forget it. Believe me, hot fudge is the stuff memories are made of.
