Kate's Back on Track Journal - comments welcome

Kate, way to go with the weigh in. I'm glad your weather is good and you'll be able to get outside. I love my outdoor walk/jogs more than any other workout.

Another crazy busy week here!

I have been able to do pretty good food wise and getting the exercise.

Today we have a Derby party to go to, it is also a surprise 50th Bday party for the host, his wife has done a lot to make this fun! It looks like the weather will cooperate for a beautiful day.

There will be lots of (not diet-friendly) food - BBQ, Ky Burgoo, Derby pie and of course mint juleps.

I'm bringing a veggie/dip tray and cookies. Should be fun, but it's going to take some willpower to have tiny portions of all the yummies!

Hi Jane, Amy. Julie, Hoot was good, the girls said, I'm sure I would like the music, by Jimmy Buffett. I guess I'll have to wait until it comes out on video to see it!

ok off to do a million things before going to the party. :sunny:

How was the party? OK, you must explain - what is Ky Burgoo and Derby pie? Sounds fattening...

How were the mint juleps? I've never had one but they sound so good. Dh is from southern IL and they talk about eating burgoo but I can't remember what in the heck it was. I'll have to ask dh what his burgoo was & see if its similiar to KY burgoo. Did you wear a hat to the party?

I just talked to dh - he said their burgoo was a big chicken stew. It was cooked in a huge pot all night and used for their church's fundraiser the next day.

Day one of getting this body ready for summer! :sunny:

I stuck with my 20 pts, 5 f/v, 3 dairy, and just minimal exercise (25 min. walking) but it was my long day at work, then I came home and had an event to go to at the kids school. Just got home a few minutes ago, so it was a LONG day.

The party was great, Bob was very surprised, and of course we all put in bets on the race. My daughter picked the winner, and even after splitting the money with 4 other people who also won, she got $18, a lot to a 13 yr old!

Burgoo is a stew, cooked a long time, usually made with lamb, beef and chicken, lots of veggies, and who knows what, depending on who makes it!

Derby Pie is soooo yummy, but about a million calories. Basically sugar, chocolate, pecans and bourbon. :teeth: I had a tiny tiny slice.... and I'm up two pounds from last week!

Mint juleps are, well, I never did like them much. It's a sugary syrup with a bit of mint, crushed ice, and lots of bourbon. VERY strong. I didn't have any Saturday since I don't drink anymore, stopped that about 10 years ago, but they would never be my 1st choice, like, say, margaritas!

I didn't wear a hat, but some people did, my youngest daughter wore hers, I should post some pics on here, about time to change my siggy!

OK, I've got the burgoo and Derby pie down - now what the heck is a haystack?

You are like me - I can gain a pound just thinking of cheesecake...

I hope all went well with your ultrasound. :wizard:

Sounds like derby day was a blast. Hats, money & mint juleps - whats not to like?! Its even better when the money stays in the family - great job for your daughter winning!

Thanks Julie. Actually, my doctor called and the ultrasound was not helpful at all. I had some pain in my back, kidney area, and thought I had an infection. Also some pain in my side and lower front, he thought possibly gallbladder. Results didn't show anything, and as the pain has gotten much better, we're just going to watch and wait for a while. I hate that though, when you really don't know what is causing symptoms!!

Jane, the Derby party was lots of fun. Too bad its only once a year!

Amy, you've never had a haystack!??! They are great little snacks when you HAVE to have chocolate, but the trick is to only eat one or two.

I'll look up the recipe and post it. Hershey bar, peanut butter and Fiber One cereal. One WW pt. each. YUM. :sunny:

Ok, well, I can't find the recipe on my computer, but you take one regular (1.55 oz.)hershey bar in a bowl, melt it in the microwave, add 1/4 c. peanut butter, mix that real well, stir in 1 cup Fiber One (or All-Bran) cereal. Spoon onto waxed paper by TBSP. makes 9. I line a cookie sheet with waxed paper, and keep them in the freezer, and TRY to eat only one now and then for a snack. :sunny:

OK, I've had those before! I made them for Halloween once, but with chocolate chips, pb and Chinese noodles. Your version is much healthier, however I have no willpower and "eating just one" is not in my vocabulary...

You are doing great with your eating and getting those workouts in! :cheer2:  :cool1:

I'm glad you are feeling better. I had the same thing happen a couple months ago and they never found anything except a kidney stone which must have just disappeared on its own...

Thanks Amy, and Jane, I wish I had the eating under control. I have done better the past week or so than I had been, but I'm waiting for a bad binge day to come along. I hope that doesn't happen - but I know myself from past experience!

Now I have a definite temporary goal. Of course I want to look good for swimsuit season, and I'm going on a short weekend trip with my WW friends in July, but now we're going on our family vacation at the end of June. Gotta look good and only about 5 1/2 weeks to go!!

This was a last minute decision. We had thought about Washington DC, or camping in the lakes region of Minnesota in conjunction with a trip to Minneapolis DD and DH are taking.

In the end, DH said he's been working so hard he just wants a relaxing do- nothing vacation. No sight-seeing etc. So he suggested the beach, and I'll NEVER argue with that. We're staying in Panama City Beach, and were lucky enough to find a condo we liked, and was affordable, the week we wanted. We've stayed in this same condo complex a few times before in the past, and really like the area. I don't think my youngest DD really remembers it because she was only about Kindergarten age last time we were there, so I'm looking forward to it!!
