~ Kate Plus Eight ~

Isn't that what they used to do in the olden days when someone was hysterical? She certainly was hysterical. I hope she remembers this the next time they want her to do something like that.

The trouble with meltdowns is I'm not sure how you stop them. If you yell at someone having one, don't they just get worse?

I was wondering if she had an accident on the way down, if you get my drift. I know some people do when they have a car accident, from the fright of it.

That episode is currently running right now (I can hear it in the background) and my 9 year old DD is watching and after Kate's ridiculous meltdown at the bottom, she said "someone needs to slap that woman."

That's my girl!!

Dear Lord. Kate really did jump the shark on this one.

I had some Kate empathy in the build-up to this show. I was (note past tense) phobic about heights and still don't like them. Phobic = irrationally fearful. As a result I've undergone behavior modification to get above the 5th floor in any building. At no time did I ever risk instilling that irrational fear in my kids -- by exposing myself as a trembling fool in front of them during the desensitization process. I know from panic attacks. Been there done that.

Is Kate really phobic about heights? Possibly, but I'm now sceptical. IMO, she's just acting and egregiously over-acting. Remember, she managed a hot air balloon and apparently gets in an airplane on a regular basis. She volunteered to go up on that building. A true phobic would not do that. A true phobic would also not allowed her children to do the "jump" before her, because that irrational fear would have extended to the "potential" danger to her kids.

I mean, seriously. Cara and Mady did the jump, but then Kate has a total fit and wants the whole thing explained to her again before she does it? Poor Brad. Didn't she just see the twins land safely? Did she not just trust the equipment with her darling little twins -- but can't for herself? And then she lands and has a meltdown? Oh, spare me. Suck it up Kate, for the sake of the little kids. Don't instill your irrational fears in them. And don't worry them and traumatize them while you act out your "fears" just for the cameras.:sad2:

And the country is spelled New Zealand. An exquisitely beautiful country with a wonderfully rich heritage. I preferred it to Australia, although I liked Australia too. And if someone introduces himself to you as Paul, please remember his name. He is not "Mr Kiwi House Man."

Kate is twittering? Really? Truly? I'm so out of touch. Too funny! ::runs off to look at twitter::

It's not worth it..points and all that.

I will say I am not geographically challenged. I know where it is. I just didn't spell it right..shame on me...last I knew typo's or a word spelled wrong on the Dis weren't a sin.

By the way sceptical is usually spelled skeptical. People should be careful when they criticize someone's spelling here..it usually comes back to bite them :rotfl:.

Nope. Check a dictionary, honey. Sceptical is excellent British spelling, and is also quite acceptable in the US as a variant.

You are right..just not how I usually spell it.

And the country is spelled New Zealand for those spelling and geographically challenged.

But I still don't get why you have to name call. Calling someone geographically challenged is insulting..especially when I am not. Spelling a word wrong, does not mean someone doesn't know where it is. Why start that once again?:confused3 You want this thread closed too? It's been going so nicely. People disagreeing but getting along, with no name calling.
Hope you enjoy Kate's twitters. I find it interesting that people who care nothing about her follow her anywhere.
And I am not your honey.

The show may not be on much longer. The ratings have been slipping steadily downwards and are now under a million. Ouch!

Perhaps the Gosselin children will get a real vacation without cameras in their faces sometime soon.

On another but related topic. I wonder whether the proposed new legislation amending the PA Child Labor Laws will pass?

I missed the first 30 minutes-did they visit Steve's parents and family. I did glimpse Steve on the cat walk. But he didn't do the walk-a-round with them. Still think Steve and Kate are an item.

Thought I would come back to your question, since I just watched it again. In the very begining, she mentioned that they visited Steve and his family.

We just watched it again, because I still couldn't believe she jumped (and my DH hadn't seen it yet). I could never do that. My stomach is still in knots and I wish I hadn't watched that part again. DH thought that they sent her down a lot faster than the others, and I didn't notice the others stopping for pictures. Oh dear God, why would anyone jump? I don't think she was the first one to not want to do it..that guy that helped her had amazing patience..I think he's had practice.

I read too, if viewer ship goes under a million, the show is pulled. I think Kate Tweeted that America is suppose to vote where her and the kids should go next. The show isn't about their home lives anymore, it is just about traveling. If the show stops, those kids won't be going anywhere, except in their own backyard.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll check a rerun.
Why is the show on so late on TLC.
It is on 9:00 p.m. CST, which is 10:00 p.m. EST.

Is that something you read recently? I've just been reading about another show that I like that is lower and the commentaries on that show is that these ratings are still decent for a cable show in that time slot (it's also on late at night). Also, there are a lot more cable shows versus regular TV stations that are only a half hour and that is supposed to have something to do with lower ratings. Plus, we are talking TLC (as opposed to USA, HBO, Bravo, TNT)..at the end of last summer, not one show of theirs made the top 40. The show isn't as popular as it once was, the kids aren't cute babies where Kate and Jon have to do a lot of figuring out how to do things, there is no dad in the show, so it's no longer about the family making it. I've actually been surprised that it's still on, but I know just from the other threads I'm on, there are a lot of faithful viewers. And I do like to see the kids have such wonderful experiences. They really seem happy this past few shows.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll check a rerun.

A lot of people on the boards are complaining about that. Many are tivoing it so their kids can see it..it's way too late IMO for this type of show. The tivoing is only counted if it's watched the same day, which obviously wouldn't be counting kids watching the next day.

Trying to remember why I dug up the thread.

Anyone watch the Philly episode?
Few observations.

Kara-did not say a word on the couch. Pulled her knees up and looked at her Sister Mady talk.

Mady-hates any kind of Fast Food-"You go Girl".

Steve-Gave Kate $100 for holding a spider-(just seemed like a really personal moment, between him and Kate.)

Kate-Commented how the Hockey Players were to young for her to date, perfers older men. Commented how she won't do online dating because she doesn't know how to use a computer-(I think she forgot about the episode, where her and Jon were on their computers in their rooms answering e-mail.)

Aiden-Talks very well.
Joel-Doesn't talk as well as Aiden.
Collin-Has him paired up with Aiden a lot. I wonder if Aiden keeps him more calm.
Hannah-her hair is short.
Alexis-Leah-just their normal yelling and screaming.

I watched it. I just enjoyed the show and the kids enjoying themselves. I liked hearing them tell about their experience. Kids seem to suck in knowledge.
Wasn't it Hannah that donated her hair to Locks of Love? Just looked it up, yes she did.
Good for Kate for removing the kids when the fans started moving in too close,

What was different with Kate's look during the interviews. I couldn't quite place my finger on it, but she looked different.

I think it's her hair, extensions gone maybe? I saw the one where they went to New Zealand, why would you jump off a building if you're afraid of height? I thought she was going to be hospitalized.

Yes, she did look very different during the interviews. I also noticed Cara, with her body language and not saying anything during the interview. At first, I was thinking that it may be a sign she's not doing so great, but then I started thinking about my own son who's 9, and well, wow, sometimes you would think the world was ending watching him for a few hours, so it really could be anything. I also noticed Maddie, and thought she's really seemed to have matured a lot, and seems to have a much better attitude than in her younger days.

Aren't the twins 10?

Kate's look? I thought too her extensions were gone and it is now her own hair. She did pretty good too with running in heals. She also had boot heals on. I wonder if she ever gets a back ache wearing shoes with heals on all the time. I know when I even wear them for a few hours my back is out.

I have also noticed the same thing during the recent specials. I guess it may just be what they decide to show, but Mady definitely seems to have a better attitude lately. Now Cara, on the other hand, like you mentioned, seems to be going in the opposite direction. She was always kind of quiet, even when she was younger, but she at least seemed to be in a good mood most of the time. But now lately, she always looks sad and upset - you rarely see her with a smile on her face. I think she's the one who has been affected the most by all that has happened. :sad1:

Maybe to overcome the fear? Haven't you ever done something you were afraid of just to conquer that fear? I try to do it as much as possible!!

I do rollercoasters to combat my fear of heights, I don't think I'd ever jump off a building, I felt bad for her, she was really freaked out.

Reports that Kate and Steve are in Louisville this weekend for the Derby- here she is in her hat:
