~ Kate Plus Eight ~

True Blood, Wonderful show. Think Twilight for grownups.

it's on HBO. very popular show! And honestly, I think HBO has owned the 9pm Sunday time slot for a while -- Sex & the City, The Sopranos, Big Love, and now True Blood (I'm sure there have been other shows, too) have all done VERY well at that time!

So ratings dropped more than a third for the second special? Interesting.

More legal stuff for anyone interested. Rep. Murt doesn't think the brand new work permits for the tups comply with existing legislation and is asking the state Attorney General to issue an opinion.

"Rep. Thomas P. Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) has asked Attorney General Tom Corbett to examine the special permits issued for six children under the age of 7 involved in the television production “Kate Plus 8” to determine if the permits comply with Pennsylvania’s child labor law.

In his letter to Corbett, Murt noted Pennsylvania’s Child Labor Law authorizes the Department of Labor and Industry to issue special permits for the employment of minors between 7 and 18 years of age in theatrical productions, musical recitals or concerts, entertainment acts, modeling, radio, television, motion picture making, or in other similar forms or media. The law also authorizes the department to issue special permits for the temporary employment of minors as part of the performing cast in the production of a motion picture, but it does not specifically mention television productions.

“As I read the law, permits for children under age 7 are available for performing in a movie, but permits are not available for children under age 7 to participate in a television show,” Murt said. “I have asked the attorney general to examine the law and clarify whether the permit process provides for such performances.”

Murt added that although the law does not appear to allow for special permits for children under age 7 to appear in television productions, the Department of Labor and Industry has issued special permits for six children under age 7 involved in the production “Kate Plus 8.”

“It appears those permits were granted even though the law does not provide for them,” Murt said. “Under the Commonwealth Attorneys Act, the attorney general is authorized to furnish legal advice to agency heads concerning the interpretation of state laws and regulations. I have asked him to look into this case to determine whether these permits are legal.”

Murt also sent a letter to Labor and Industry Secretary Sandi Vito asking her to seek the Attorney general’s guidance on the issue.

“We can all agree that as the number of film and television productions in Pennsylvania increases, the protection of children involved in those productions should be of paramount importance,” Murt said. “If there is a desire to create a permit process for younger children to participate in television shows in Pennsylvania, I would be interested in working with the department and all interested parties to discuss how we can amend the law.”

Good thing I'm not a household they follow..not a one of those shows would interest me. Prob why I don't have HBO LOL.
What type of ratings do these shows get Madge? I wonder if they are considered cable channels or main stream. I've been reading that it wasn't until K + that these kinds of ratings came into play on the cable channels, so if what I'm reading is true, they are very happy with even the latest ratings. We'll see if they hold onto the ratings, with people wondering when the shows are going to be on, and no idea if they can find the time slot. I think the food channel shows must be pulling some in as well, as other channels are starting to have their versions of the same shows.

I know that the finale of The Sopranos was huge, as far as numbers? I don't know. I'll check and report back.

edited to add: the series finale of The Sopranos had 11.9 million viewers. Some speculated that number might/should have been higher. Sex & the City had a viewership of nearly 11 million for it's finale. It averaged 8 million viewers/week.

I think HBO is considered cable for the Emmy awards, so I would think it would be considered cable, although there may be separate classification for pay channels.

I just read Kate met with Donald Trump in July & the rumor is she is going to do Celebrity Apprentice

I thought they weren't going to do another celebrity one. I like the regular ones better in any case. Oh my word. I don't know what to think about that LOL.

I think Kate would be perfect for the show. There'd be a lot of drama, meltdowns, smiles...
She's pretty to look at, she's someone people can't seem to help but watch, she likes to plan, control--I think she'd do great on a show like this. Donald loves anything controversial. If he didn't, he'd fix that darned hair.:rotfl:

I think she's the perfect fit for something like this.

Okay....now tha I would watch. If she is as bad as everyone who dislike her says she is....we will so see it there. Talk about an environment where you have to get along with others. Omarosa might not be so bad after all.

It would be great TV & the ratings would make Donald very happy.

But I thought they all played for a charity... do you think they get paid too?
I'm not sure Kate would do it without a paycheck.

I doubt she will. A lot of celebs don't *need* the money and afford to give it away. Kate Gosselin isn't at the place. She'd need the $$, I think, and wouldn't be away from her kids for that long to just donate it. Maybe he'll get a group together who need the money and they won't be donating. Or maybe they will get paid. I certainly don't know the ins and outs of shows like this. My guess would be that if Donald Trump wants her, he'll get her on there.

I think it would be interesting TV, but I don't think Kate woud do particularly well. A lot of the Celebrity Apprentice is about knowing people with money to come donate to your causes - and Kate isn't the kind of celebrity with a lot of other celebrities on her speed dial. Not to mention, she believes the Gosselins are a charity case - but maybe she could work it out that all of her money goes to them somehow. I wouldn't put it past her.

Maybe he'll just talk to her about a different type of show. He prob recognizes that right now, she is a property that may bring in ratings.

I found out they all do get paid. They get $16,000 for 3 weeks work.

She could reach out to all the executives at TLC for donations on tasks, she certainly helped them earn big bucks, plus she knows the celebrities from other shows on TLC and of course all the celebs she met on DWTS. She should have a pretty good amount of celebrities and executives that she could reach out to for cash on the Celebrity Apprentice.

I also read that Tiger Woods mistress #1 Rachel Uchitel, is going to be on the Celebrity Apprentice which adds a whole new meaning to celebrity, IMHO.

I think she would be ok not all the celebrities have the contacts for a lot of donations. Holly's side kick did not... I forget her name.

I agree that she could do OK but the ones who outlast the rest are generally the contestants that can raise big bucks. She should have a lot more people to call on than the Olympic swimmer, Summer Sanders (Holly's side kick as you called her) had on the last season of the show.

I could not remember her name. Kate would not win but it would be good TV for a few weeks:happytv:

With all this info, esp. the getting paid 16,000 for a few weeks, I think she's a possibility. (I know, I know, who cares what I think? lol, I'm just sayin'. )

As far as Tiger's mistress? Well, that doesn't sit well with me personally but I'll tell you, for the most part, I lump most celebs and their lifestyles in the not-so-great category. Kinda like I feel about politics.

I was thinking Donald Trump must have an ax to grind with Tiger Woods to do that. Maybe he would not do Donald Trumps World of Golf.
