This was my first true solo trip to the World. My sister and niece invaded the solo trip I had planned for August, so I was looking forward to having some time for myself down in Disney World. It was a rough few months, and I really needed the escape.
I left my house at about 12:45 to head to Logan Airport in Boston to catch my 3:05 p.m. flight to Orlando. I flew on Song Airlines, and I had my favorite seatrow 10 on the window. Its a great seat because there isnt another seat in front of you, so you have tons and tons of leg room. The flight was great, and arrived about 20 minutes early at 6:00p.m. The flight crew on Song is really fantastic. The flight attendants are very personable and helpful. They seem to be truly happy to be there.
My Tiffany Towncar driver was waiting for me when I arrived at baggage claim. After waiting about 20 minutes, with my luggage in hand, we headed to the car. I decided to skip the grocery stop (I usually forget to bring the water and snacks with me anyways), and went directly to the Caribbean Beach Resort. Although I think the Caribbean Beach Resort is beautiful, Im not really a big fan of the resort. Its really too big for my tastes, much to spread out. I prefer the Port Orleans French Quarter for a moderate hotel. I also dont like the way the reception desk and guest relations are so far away from everything else. It's just not very convienent. And getting someone to take you to your room always takes way too long.
I was in room 2156 in Martinique, a second floor corner room. The room was clean and comfortable. I really like the décor of the rooms at the Caribbean Beachthey are so bright and cheery. I never heard a neighbor or any noise outside during my stay at the CBR. Although the resort was pretty full, I really felt like I had the place to myself. I never ran into lines at the food court.
After dropping off my things and spending about two and a half minutes in my room, I jumped in a cab to head over to the Boardwalk to go to Jellyrolls (surprise, surprise). I had called and found out that my favorite piano guysScotty Kilwein and Ray McGee were going on, so I had to go see them.
I stopped and grabbed a turkey sandwich at the Boardwalk Bakery before heading into Jellyrolls. It cost about $9, and included a drink and chips. It was very tasty. The bread was awesome. I also picked up a refillable mug, as I would be staying at the Boardwalk the last three nights of my trip.
After inhaling my sandwich, I went into Jellyrolls in time to catch the last 20 minutes of Tommy and Jasons first set of the evening. Ive seen both of them many times. Tommy is always a lot of funhe is just a Jellyrolls legend. I had forgotten how fun it is to watch Jason. He is just such a fireball onstage. He is just soooooo hyper.
Finally, at 9:00, the best part of my trip began when Scotty and Ray took the stage. I immediately made my presence known by throwing a $20 on Scottys piano with a request for Buttercup, and a $10 to hear Ray do Big Yellow Taxi. My requests were played almost immediately back to back.
There were many funny moments in the evening. There was a guy who was doing some heavy Riverdancing at one point. And later in the evening, a guy mooned the audience from the stage (it wasnt a full moonhe kept his underware on). But he was quickly escorted from the bar by a bouncer.
During the last hour of their set, Scotty and Ray played a lot of great old songs, including The Way You Look Tonight and Till There Was You. I put another $20 on the piano with a note saying, Thanks for another fun night. Happy Holidays. Scotty wound up dedicated the song Beyond the Sea to our good friend Karen sitting in the back. I was surprised that Scotty remembered me by name from my August trip to Jellyrolls. I gabbed with him for a while, and promised I would come see him again on Sunday night.
I took a cab back to the Caribbean Beach, and made it to bed sometime after 2:00a.m. with the satisfaction of knowing that a trip to Jellyrolls to see Scotty and Ray was a great way to start off my trip.
