Just touring via Monorail

Just looking for some advice...personal car and this Monday we plan to do a Monorail tour in the early afternoon...ride it, tour some resorts, etc..We are coming from Four Points-Sheraton. Where is the most convenient place to park and jump on the monorail???

Late afternoon we will be going to Downtown Disney if that factors in to best location to park for monorail! Thanks

The Ticket and Tranportation Center, which is the MK parking lot as well. Parking is $15.

Driving to downtown Disney would be easiest later. (Although parking is a challenge).

Really, this is not allowed. You can park temporarily at the resort you are visiting or dining at, but you are expected to move your car once your business is finished at that resort. The MK resorts are particularly sensitive to the parking issue since many people try to beat the parking fee at the TTC by trying to park at those resorts and heading off to MK for the day. If you really prefer to park at one of the resorts, you can valet park (and pay for it).

The monorail is under refurbishment and is closed midday - I think from 11am - 7pm.

The announced planned downtimes ended last week.

I can't say for sure that there won't be more in the future, but none have been announced at this time.

I also thought I read that they were extending the monorail closure - glad to hear it was up & running this week. Anyway, with the history of that darn monorail - I'd have a Plan B in place!

Right now parking at Poly is limited to Resort Guests - they have a sign up at the entrance. (Because they have the main parking lot closed for construction).

If you want to add some fun to a monorail ride start at DTD and take the bus to Fort Wilderness then jump on the internal bus to the marina. From there you can take a boat ride to Wilderness Lodge then over to the Contemporary and catch the monorail. Then reverse your steps back to DTD.

If you want to park at a resort and hop on the monorail, you have two choices: be back and move your car in 3 hours or pay $15 for valet parking for the day.

Last time we did the monorail tour... Parked at DTD... bus to Wilderness Lodge... boat to CR... Monorail to TTC... Monorail to Epcot and back to TTC... walk to Poly for Dole Whip... Boat to MK... bus to POR... boat to DTD.

The toughest part of doing this is getting back to DTD. The buses from the various resorts (or the boats from PO) probably have the longest waits if you just miss one.

Walt Disney World plans to close both monorail lines to the Magic Kingdom for maintenance starting in January during non-peak hours on weekdays, between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The work, set to begin Jan. 21, 2014 and continue through the end of March, only impacts the Magic Kingdom Express and Resort lines. The monorail to Epcot will operate as normal.

We like to do the tour as well if we aren't staying on property. We park at Downtown Disney and ride the boat to Port Orleans--spend some time either at the fishing hole or eating beignets in the French Quarter. Then we head back to DTD and take a bus to the Polynesian where we board the monorail and do the whole tour-in the past we got off at the Grand Floridian and did activities like the Pirate Cruise with the kids. When we get back to Poly we have dinner and drinks or a Dole Whip. Sometimes we drive over to the Boardwalk and have dinner,shop and people watch. Last year we ate dinner at the Wilderness Lodge and watched the electrical water pagent from the dock and then boarded the ferry to the Contemporary and were lucky enough to see the EWP floats up close and were on the water for the fireworks. Always a fun time when you're at WDW!
