Alright its pouring down rain here...so I am not going anywhere for a while. Here is my Ontario TR!
I went to class Tuesday night and was fighting with myself on whether to stay or leave early lol. I did stay, picked up Rylan from my mom's and went home. Luckily he fell asleep on the way home. I needed to go to
Walmart to get a couple things. I went ahead and went so I could pick up a portable DVD player for the drive. Purchased that, then finished up the rest of my shopping. Got Rylan a cute Yo Gabba Gabba hoodie and new socks for both of us. Plus some snacks for the road. I went to go check out again and my freakin card was declined. I KNEW I had more than enough in my bank account so I tried to run it again. Wouldn't work. Did it again. Same result. The lady told me to try the ATM, so I did and stuck my card in. Remembering that if anything was wrong with my card it wouldn't let me take cash out and it would shred the card (its a non bank ATM for me). I quickly took it out, called the 1-800 number on the back, checked my balance. Of course, it was what I knew it was. I tried swiping it one more time and it worked. Auggh!
Anyway, I went back home to finish packing and doing laundry. I was up until 2am and had to wake up at 6:30am.
Woke up the next morning and got all of our stuff ready, took a shower, and got Rylan up and dressed. We left the house around 7:30 I believe. I had to run by the old work and drop off some movies to one of the girls. She was using them for class. Went to go back up towards home (which is on the way to the interstate) because I of course forgot all the food I had bought.
About 8:45 we were on our way to Canada!
The drive was pretty boring and sorry Wendy but Michigan's roads are so full of potholes! Especially around Detroit.
I then get a phone call while we are still in Indiana saying my debit card has been deactivated due to possible fraudulent use!! OMG I am so pissed at this point. I call and of course get the automated crap. I finally hit a button that takes me to a customer service rep. She asked me how I was doing and I told her I was actually pretty annoyed. Who knows what happened, but it had to do with Walmart the previous night. I told her to make a note on my account that I was leaving the country and there would be no fraudulant charges.
We arrived at the border around 3pm I believe. We don't have passports yet and they still aren't required so I always just take my drivers license of course and both of our birth certificates. Well this was the first time I drove across the border myself. I usually fly into Buffalo and Linda picks me up and we drive back together.
I pull up to the booth and hand him my documentation. He then proceeds to play freakin 20 questions with me. Now, I have been to Canada and back several times over the past couple of years and never have they done this to me. "Who's car is this" "I stole it on the way up here"..."Is this your child?" "No, he came with the car."...etc ya know??
He asked me what I did for a living and I was honest and told him I was fired a few days prior. He then asked me how it was that I had the money to go up there. Excuse me? Is that any of your business? The reason why, is because when I go I only pay gas. I always have a free place to stay. So bite it. Asked how long I was staying, which is pretty routine. Does the child's father know you are taking him across the border? Yes and it doesn't matter, he's not listed on the birth certificate and I have sole custody so he doesn't get a say
I mean this guy literally questioned me for 10 minutes.
He then sends me off to the side so they can frickin SEARCH MY CAR. Apparently I was suspicious. And of course my entire car looks like a bomb exploded. Aside from all the luggage and stuff in there, its been so cold that I haven't had time to clean out my trunk. There are clothes and random things in there. So they make me pop the trunk and then act all suspicious and ask once again how long I am staying. They didn't believe me. They send me to immigration!! At this point I am freaking out thinking I will have to turn around and go all the way back home.....

WHAAA? I have a $500 deductible that I had to pay so I filled out a complaint to the state and was reimbursed my deductible. Oh, by the way, I was 1 of 6 other cars stranded on the side of the road that night. Mike was out of town and I had to call my Mom to pick me & Emily up. She was in the middle of chemo and not very strong at that point. It was H. E. double hockey sticks!!
