Just the two of us- WDW May 09 countdown on! **UPDATE Trying to change plans AGAIN!**

Poor you at theborder !!The customs people can be really evil!! But they also catch a lot of drug smugglers and terorists too So Iguess I'll forgive them!!

Dang...remind me not to drive to Canada anytime soon!!! Sorry you had a hard time with that, but at least you got across the border :)

It was ridiculous...I was so scared I wasn't going to be let through!

Sorry you had such a tough time at the border, looks like you got lucky and got the random "special treatment". I think they have to hit a quota each day of how many cars to pull over etc. We cross the border ALL the time and every time we just get waived through, except for once, we didn't do anything differently but for some reason that day they decided we needed to be grilled and the car searched. I think it is totally random or you just got a guard on a bad day.

It must be that! When Linda came down to Indiana for the first time, she drove overnight. At that time Brandon was only about 3 months old. They stopped her, searched her car, and everything. Maybe its just the traveling with a small child so I don't know. I am thinking that my first guard needed to get laid :lmao:

What a mess!! So sorry you had to deal with that. I hope the trip got better from there...

It did!

Sorry about the border problems! Did you cross in Detroit or Port Huron? It's nice to know their searching single moms, they're the most dangerous criminals out there!! :lmao:

You're not joking about the pot holes. They are HORRIBLE!! We have the worst roads ever! The local news actually has a "Pothole Patrol" segment every night. Last winter, I hit a pot hole and took out the passenger side of my car. At the time I was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala and hit a pot hole coming off of I-275 onto Michigan Ave. It was 10pm and snowing. I blew both tires on the pass. side, bent both rims, ripped the undercarriage off, needed a new rear side panel and new bumper. $4300 in damages! :scared1: WHAAA? I have a $500 deductible that I had to pay so I filled out a complaint to the state and was reimbursed my deductible. Oh, by the way, I was 1 of 6 other cars stranded on the side of the road that night. Mike was out of town and I had to call my Mom to pick me & Emily up. She was in the middle of chemo and not very strong at that point. It was H. E. double hockey sticks!!

Anyway, I can't wait to hear more about Canada! I'm also happy M is doing good! I hope you two can have dinner soon! He sounds like a nice guy!

LOL M said it was the blackberry and it made me look like a drug smuggler :lmao: The first time I crossed at Port Huron, on the way back I passed through Detroit I believe. I had to hop on 94 west as a detour. I mean...even just getting ON the interstate right after the border was ridiculous!

I know, they do it for a reason but they were just completely rude. I can understand they need to question me, but asking me how I can afford to come up there is no business of theirs and other personal personal questions they were asking me. Like how many times my friends had been to the states to visit. And if they ever come see me or do I just go see them. None of his business!

A detour. Did some shopping today. I bought a new bathing suit. I have some from last summer but they are bikinis. I LOVE them, but I am not sure my belly will fit in them this summer. I refuse to be that person walking around with my love handles hanging over my bottoms! So I bought a tankini!

We also went to the Disney Store as we do every time. Got Rylan some Pooh figurines and I ended up buying a Tink shirt. Now, I am totally not the one you will see at Disney wearing a character shirt. Its just not me. I won't be wearing the Mickey ears either. But I loved this shirt and I have always loved Tink (although I love all the princesses as well). It looked more vintage.

Here are some pictures!

Alright the next installment. So they send me into immigration. Rylan had been asleep for almost an hour at this point and they make me get him out and take him inside which ends up waking him up. I was fuming mad. Luckily, the guy inside immigration was really nice. All three people I saw at the border asked me how much I had in my bank account (I think they maybe thought I was planning to illegally move there). The guy inside said to next time have proof of my bank account. He stamped me through, I went to get in my car and I left. I was in Canada! At that point I was about 2 hours away from Hamilton, where Melissa lives.

The whole way up there it was cold but very sunny outside. It was like as soon as I got into Canada it started snowing lol. Well it wasn't really snowing, but very windy which was causing major drifting. I had crossed through into Sarnia. Shortly after the weather got better.

Sidenote: I bought a GPS around Black Friday for Disney. I figured that this drive would be prime time to use it. Well it wasn't. The stupid thing kept trying to take me from Indiana to New York and having me cross that way! It didn't matter how far north I got, everytime I tried to retry it, it would still take me back down and to NY! So once I got across the border I was able to use it.

Anyway, after a long long drive we arrived at Melissa's around 5:45pm. About a 9 hour drive (we also stopped at the drugstore).

Here are some pictures of us at Melissa's after we arrived.

Bank statements? WHAAAA? I can't believe that, we have been over the border many times and have never been asked more than our citizenship, destination and length of stay. WOW!

The kissy pics of Rylan are soooooo CUTE!!! :lovestruc

You came back through Detroit and had to go west on 94? Why didn't you stop by? I'm only about 20 min. west of Detroit. Actually, I'm closer to Ann Arbor!

Haha that's crazy! I had to take 94W to 275S to 75S I believe. I think that's right. Whichever one would take me into Ohio (Cleveland I think?). I was going to ask where you lived but I figured it would be no where on the way!

OMG! Off 275, I am 2 exits north of the 275/94 intersection!!! You were soooo close!

Oh, I forgot to tell you, that tankini is so cute!! Love it!! I like the Tink shirt too, but I'm like you, I don't usually wear themed clothes even at Disney. I might wear 1 t-shirt or a pair of jammies, but you won't see me walking around with Mickey shirts everyday! I don't usually dress Emily in character clothes either, but she has a couple of tees.

I also like Rylan's Yo Gabba Gabba sweatshirt! That show is so crazy, I love it! I have to admit, I have a Yo Gabba Gabba hoodie! Go Brobee, go Brobee, GO!!!

I just bought this luggage set too! I had to bite the bullet and just do it. I HATE spending money.

*thumbs up* for the bathing suit and Tink shirt..I love wearing Disney-themed shirts--and have one for each day we'll be there--might buy more too :)

And again I'm sorry you had a hard time getting across the border. Why does it matter why you're going? It's none of their business ;)

Wow, I can't believe you had to go through so much to get to Canada. I'm so unfamiliar with all that but dang! I mean proof of how much money is in the bank? well, I'm glad you made it and the pictures of Rylan are precious.

Our GPS tries to take us random routes all the time. I like to make fun of how it pronounces local streets. LOL

I love the bathing suit and the shirt!! I am one of those people that wears a disney shirt everyday. Although the June trip was the first time we did that but I loved it so much that we were completely engulfed in Disney spirit. This year I am just going to buy shirts from Disney shopping instead of making them. Brad tolerated it last year but he doesn't want to wear matching shirts. He likes Grumpy and POC shirts.

I love the luggage!!! :woohoo:

That luggage is sooooooo CUTE!! I love it! It will be so easy for ME to spot at the airport when you fly to Disney..hint, hint, hint!!!:rotfl:

Where is the Turf Club? I've never eaten there or heard about it. I think I'll head to allears to see the menu!

Ugh I know!

As for the Disney shirts, I probably won't wear them in the park, although I may wear Tink on the way down there! If I find more vintage-y shirts then I will get them. I just don't like the loud in your face ones.

LOL Melissa lives on Queen Victoria Dr. It pronounced it as Queen Vic-tur-EE-a. And I had to get off on Upper Gage Ave, it pronounced it as Upper Gayg Ave haha.

Thanks! I really like the suit :) I can suck in the tummy without showing off the weird bulge above it. Do you know what I am talking about? Its like right above your abs and right below your chest and its like two rib bumps are sticking out when I suck in my tummy. Its ODD. Anyway, I am hoping to lose some fat in my legs so the bottoms look better but I love it!

I think its at SSR? I don't remember lol.

Haha don't worry, I am still checking out flights. Its driving me crazy because the flight leaving the 8th is $69 and the next day its $89! I am almost 100% I am doing SW. Airtran and NWA have hiked up their prices SO much plus I have to pay for luggage with them. I am hoping and praying for a good DING for $59 each way! I keep running across them but they all end on April 30th!

I love the luggage and bathing suit.

The pic of Rylan in the bathtub is so cute. Looks like he had a lot of fun with his little friend. How Cute

Yum! I checked out the Turf Club menu and it looks good, drool!

I'm happy you're still looking into flights. It is so worth the extra $$ to fly. I've driven to WDW before, stopping in Tennessee or Georgia and it is so horrible and long. I've vowed to never drive again!

Okay...so I am thinking about changing my major...to paralegal studies...not sure. After this semester with anatomy I just don't know if I want to get much further into nursing.... I already have almost all the pre reqs done for the paralegal program so it wouldn't hurt me. Anyone know anyone who is in this line of work? Or even criminal justice? Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Well if you do decide on Paralegal Studies you'll have job security---people need legal advice, right? The Healthcare profession isn't in any danger too--people get sick. Criminal Justice--what do you want to do? Become a lawyer, police officer, investigator? All good fields by the way.

Hey I'm 37 years old and thinking of giong back to school for Culinary arts!! So imagine being my age and having to go back LOL.

But you've got a good range of fields--you need to decide what's best for you and Rylan!!

The law has always intrigued me. I find it interesting that there are so many loopholes and specifics when it comes to that. I don't think I would actually go into law school, I don't have the time nor the money, but I am almost positive that this program doesn't require admission into it. I believe you can just take your courses and graduate. I have to call the school tomorrow. I would probably just do the paralegal studies and work as a paralegal or legal secretary. I would love to work for the state or federal government.

I don't have any experience with nursing or paralegal studies, but you have to decide what will make you happy. What are you interested in? Both are pretty solid lines of work with sable employment histories. As a mom, I think you would have a more regular schedule as a paralegal. As a nurse, you never know what shift you'll be working. What if you were on midnights, how would that effect your time with Rylan or your social life for that matter (you can't forget yourself!!) It's so hard to choose a career while in school. I wish you could try out careers before choosing. I think there would be less disgruntled employees out there!

You really have to think about what's going to be best for you, Rylan and your life style. Don't choose a profession because the money is good, even if you have $$, if the job sucks, you wont be happy.

Oh poop, I think our cable just went out. The wind is blowing like 50mph right now. It feels like the whole hose is about to blow away!

Anyway, I know I babbled alot and didn't really give you any advice, so paralegal studies sounds great, go for it!

You could definitely do that :) Law has always intrigued me too..but like you, I don't have the money to go to Law School...besides I'm getting too old. If I was say twenty four or twenty-five it would be different.
