Just say no to low cut jeans! (and muffin tops and cracks)

I have found that any jeans I really like should be hang dried. Most of the damage from washing is actually from drying. If they are a dark dye keeping the washing to a minimum or dry cleaning might get a couple of extra years out of them.

snapppyd

They are very close to the ones I love!!! I like the back flap pocket!!!!

The best thing is, they sell them at my Sam's Club for under $16!!!!!

I got my Nine West at Steinmart. Not sure if they are regulars or short. I also love my DKNY (short) and Ann Taylor Loft (petite for these). It seems they are making them LONGER this year. I like mine sitting low, but nothing shows and no muffin top.

The bootcut makes my hips look more in proportion, I think tapered legs equal Mom jeans. I'm 5'6", not a petite.

Remember that tapered jeans were popular in the 1960's and in the 1980's. I wore them in the 80's when I was a teenager and still love them. I can't stand flares (aka bell-bottoms in my book) as they get in my way when I'm walking :headache: and low-rise are just too low especially if the person has a bit of a stomach.

I do have a question. What are "skinny" jeans considered? To me, they are just tighter tapered jeans that were popular back in the 80's.

Jeans are the bane of my existence right now! I cannot find a single pair that isn't made of stretch material. I hate stretch jeans! I don't mind straight leg or boot cut -- prefer boot cut, and the waist I'd like to sit right at or slightly above the hips. But I can be flexible on that as long as they aren't stretch jeans.

I've noticed that as well. Most jeans and pants have that. When I try on a pair, they tend to be very mis-proportioned :headache:.

Jeans in the 60's??? We 'pegged' our jeans back then...they were so darn tight you had to lie on your bed in order to get them zipped up. I'm not sure how we managed to breath let alone dance in 'em.
Boot-cut are fine..not even close to bell bottoms. I was a teen in the 60's and I know what bell bottoms are. I had one pair that had to be 2' in diameter at the bottom and the 'waist' was sitting on my hips!! Hip-huggers back then not 'low rise'.

Today, this 60 y/o mom wears low-rise. I like my Gloria Vanderbilt from BJs, and my Old Navy jeans. I just need 'em to be long for my long legs. But...I hate it when the low rise jeans start to droop and the crotch ends up slipping down to my knees...I am not a 'gangsta' mom, or a teen boy who likes his boxers showing!!! So, perfect for me is a few inches below my natural waist, which puts the jeans right about at my bellybutton..not extreme low rise.
Now, my 16 y/o dd wears low-rise jeans that are way too low. I can't make her understand that they just don't look good from behind. And she's not a 'big' girl...5'9" and about 130. But man, those jeans look awful as she's walking away. They flatten out her butt and it looks nasty.

Wal Mart has jeans w/out the stretch.

Coldwater Creek has a line of knit jeans that are the most comfortable jeans I own. I love the fit so much that I bought every color. They fit at the natural waist- not mom jeans and not low cut:

I'm sorry but I agree with the PP that says they are "mom" jeans. Those most definately are mom jeans.

I LOVE those BR jeans. I'm going to have to get a pair of them now.

My current favs are the trouser fit jeans from BR. They are the most awesome jean ever. (That and the eddie bauer comfy ones).

To me mom jeans are the ones that come up over your waist, are too short and tapered at the bottom. Also, light in color.

My favorite new 'look' is the double muffin top. How in the world do you not know you have this?:confused3

The jeans create one muffin top, but then they've layered another tight shirt (barf) over the one they've got on. Thus creating 2 muffin tops.

ETA: The jeans linked in the OP are not mom jeans at all. Not even close.

I'm just glad they've started making boot-cut jeans in REGULAR rise and not low-cut anymore! I'm very unproportional...5'2", but with a long waist and 26" inseam (no joke). For years, I could only find low-rise bootcuts and the darn things didn't cover my butt when standing up. I had enough sense to not buy them...stuck with the horrid tapered-leg but regular rise jeans that were low-rise on me.

And I definitely hate tapered legs as well. I have very large calves - I cannot wear knee-high boots - and the tapered legs made them look even larger. Bootcuts are forgiving for me! :goodvibes

Exactly!!!!

I dont think the Lee jeans look like Mom jeans, they just look like someone with a bit more maturity on them. LOL I dont see a 19 yr old wearing them and I wouldnt wear them to go out with friends or hubby on date. They look like great run around town and volunteer at school jeans to me... yeah maybe that is mom jeans, but it is much more updated than what I have seen.

Ladies.. please please resist the tapering jeans, you end up looking like an ice cream cone, not a good look on anyone!!! Go for a jean that is straight from the hip on down, I dont mean skinny jeans straight, I mean just a nice loose, but not to loose cut.

Another tip, If you like to wear heels with your jeans , please make sure you jeans are long enough. My dress up jeans are always 2 inches longer than my everyday jeans.
Makes you legs look much longer and you dont look like you are wearing flood pants lol.

I totally agree! They give someone an "upside down, saggy heart, mom butt." That's what it looks like!

Briarmom- I totally KWYM with the double muffin top. I see muffin tops on young girls-ones that look painful!

I like low rise jeans. I actually have to wear them because I have a dialysis catheter. You don't have to have muffin top in them. If they fit, nothing hangs over. I may have to go up a size, but as PP said, how do you not know you have muffin top?!? No mirror, not one friend or family member that will tell you? I mean, seriously. I'm not thin, I just buy clothes that fit! I hate tapered jeans because they make my butt look HUGE!

Thanks for that link, I'll have to check those out.

I may have to go to a different Walmart. We only have a smaller one in my town, plus we have a Fashion Bug (NOT my favorite store, but it'll do in a pinch), and neither of those stores have anything that isn't stretch.

I never put any of my jeans in the dryer. I am meticulous about hang drying them. I still have a problem with the stretch jeans. Yeah, I'm just picky like that!:goodvibes

As for mom jeans, I think any brand/style of jeans that the majority of moms flock to, then become "mom" jeans. While I don't mind the cut of the Lee jeans pictured in the OP, the are most definitely MOM jeans by the new definition (not the SNL skit on mom-jeans). Just about all moms wear them and no one else will. That's a mom jean for you!;)

Well, OOOOOPPPPPSSS!!!:lmao:

Really, I'm sure if you look great in them, NO ONE will mistake you for a mom.

It's just that lots of moms wear those jeans and, in fact, Lee is marketing to women in the age group most likely to be moms with their jeans.
