Just Saved over $400 using Disney gift cards purchased at Target!

:kicks rocks:

Another reason to hate NYS.

New York, New Jersey and Arkansas are the states that don't allow the Pharmacy rewards. Also, those on a federal insurance plan (such as Federal Employees).

For those in NY, AR and especially NJ, is it worth it to go a to Target Pharmacy in a neighboring state?

Thanks for the great tips on using the Target Red card to buy Disney gift cards! Just purchased a couple today and got the 5% off. I'm a pharmacy rewards member, but wasn't scheduled to get a 5% any time soon. BUT when I went online to check my rewards balance, there was a link that said I could get a bonus 5% coupon by signing up to managing my pharmacy rewards online. Completed the quick online set up and a window popped up saying my reward coupons would be in the mail. Fingers crossed it will come soon and I can use the 5% red card AND 5% pharmacy for more Disney gift cards! Link is at the bottom right hand box on the targetpharmacyrewardsdotcom page.
I just wanted to come back and thank you for posting this hint! I've been a Pharmacy Rewards member for a while. My Rewards Card is linked to my REDCard, so I just assumed that I was already signed up to manage my Pharmacy Rewards online through the Manage My REDCard website. Imagine my surprise when I was able to sign up! That was less than a week ago and I got my 5% Pharmacy Rewards Card today. It won't expire until 12/08/13, so it's good for Black Friday shopping!

I had no idea that you got the 5% on Disney Gift Cards at Target. Can we use Disney Gift Cards to pay for our tips on our upcoming Disney Cruise?

You can charge the tips to your stateroom and then pay your balance on your account using the GCs.

I have saved a lot of money doing this. My fiance and I are getting married in Disney World in February and since I work at Target I get my discount and the red card and the pharmacy. For this upcoming trip I think we have saved around $1500.

Wow. 10% employee discount with an added 5% off the remaining balance, that's $85.50 per $100 in Disney credit. Fantastic.

So, how much do you pay for $100 in Disney gift cards? $81.22?
Thanks!

Well you can do even better than that

Use 10% employee discount
5% pharmacy rewards
5% red card

As pharmacy rewards and red card discount a are stackable
And if your a target employee you can stack your discount with pharmacy rewards and red card..if you have them

Keep in mind the percentages will be slightly less...as one discount applies at a time..then remaining discounts are applied not to the grand total...but to the new total after first discount

I'm sure a math wizz can jump in a tell you the exact amounts...not our thing

Also keep in mind that target normally runs a promotion just before the holidays
Where if you spend $50 at target you get a $10 target gift card (which you can use that same day to buy more Disney cards at an even grafter discount)
Catch is each $50 gift card you buy must be its own transaction to get the free target gift card.
Example if you buy 2 $50 Disney card in one transaction...you only get one free target gift card
If you bought 2 Disney cards in 2 transactions..you would get 2 free target GC

This deal usually works online at target.com
But you can't use a pharmacy rewards 5% coupon online
Employee discount is good online and red card discount applies online as well. So you still save some bucks and add the value of the free gift card...this might work out as a better deal
Note that you have to act FAST if your buying the online...as they normally sell out of Disney card within minutes

But we can tell you that you will save ALLOT of money doing this!

Once we buy all of our gift cards we need...we will be saving almost $7,000
( yes that's our savings not the cost of the gift cards)
We will have a huge mountain of $50 gift cards lol. And we will be clearing the shelves at target to get the amount of GC we need. But the savings outweigh any of the hassle

So, do you get the $10 giftcard if you buy one $50 gift card and use your redcard with 5% off (since the actual price is then 47.50?) Or do you have to buy something else as well so that the final total after the redcard discount is still at least $50?

That is awesome! Once you get the gc from target do you apply it to another Disney gc transaction or do you save it for other stuff?

Edit: nevermind. I didn't read very well the first time. Thanks or the tip!

Wow, SAVING $7,000 by buying your gift cards at Target is huge!

So, can you use the Disney GCs for room charges? I seem to remember you can charge food/purchases to your room. Would I be able to go down every night and pay up those charges with the GCs? (I plan to pay it down regularly to reset our allowed charge amount.)

Am I reading this correctly that you are buying around $35,000 in cards? I dont think they will have that many. My Target stocks around $4,000 at most.

Somewhere in that price range...depending on what deal we use
And our final trip plans.

It will take a number of target stores...but lucky we have about 6 super target all within 20 mins or so of one another
Though we don't mind driving any distance to get the amount we need.

One super target might have enough. Each check out lane has two pegs filled with Disney cards. There is a number of check out lanes. And they stock the GC in the electronics dep.

Though I'm talking with target to see if I can special order the amount of cards we need.

We have also successfully in the past call the stores ahead of time and reserve the items we want to buy. They hold them at customer service...and it's a great way to know that you can get the amount of items you need.

Will also have to do so this over a couple days..due to daily limits set by bank

That's another good tip for those looking to buy a larger amount in CG.
Check your banks policy on debit card daily transaction limits. Also some credit cards also have a daily limit.
If you have more than one card (both red debit and red credit) you can do 2. Bulk transactions In one day meeting each card daily limit.

Another tip call your bank or credit card company and see if they can wave the daily limit for one time use
Also it's a good idea when doing any large amount...to call ahead and let them know...which will help the purchase not get declined or raise any fraud already freezing your account.
Luckily our bank will allow us to purchase any amount without a limit..as long as we set it up ahead of time.

Also keep in mind pharmacy reward 5% is good for one full day....not just one purchase
You can do multiple purchases in one day...and use the pharmacy reward coupon each time.

Do you know what the daily limit is on a Red debit card? I have a pharmacy coupon I want to use. I envision going to a few stores to get the gift cards I want.

According to red card and target...there is no daily limit

Now if you have the red card debit..which is linked to a checking account
You will need to check with that bank to see what daily limits your bank has on debit cards

Side note
We have read and heard that target red card can/will decline your transaction. Even though their official, policy is no daily limit.
If you are new red card account holder...this appears to be when majority of people have issues with their red card Being declined.
Which is just crazy...since it's linked to your checking account...if you have the funds...they should not be able to decline you...but it happens
We think it's due to the fact the red card does not withdraw the purchased amount immediately. The funds can/will take a couple of days to be taken out of your account
Sort of like using a debit card at the gas pump. Though gas stations place a hold amount (as they don't know how much you will spend)

While we have no personal experience with a declined red card transaction. A number of people here on the forums -said it's happened to them
Again it appears that if you have a New red card account...everyone suggest making different purchases with red on different days for different amounts. To build a history with red card and it's usage.

If you doing a large amount - it's a good idea to let your bank know
Then ask about your daily limit.

If only the target red credit card acted like a black American Express with no limit
We would have unlimited savings potential...oh well....we will take the red card 5% savings over convenience factor

Two questions:

1) Would I actually be able to stack the Red Card and the Pharmacy so that each card is just $50x.95x.95 = $45.13 and THEN get a $10 Target gift card?! That sounds amazing, if that's how it works. If need be, I could buy groceries to make it up to the $50 each time, but I'd rather not.

2) When might this be?! PLEASE say before Thanksgiving.....please!

If this works, I could buy 45 cards worth $2250 for $2030.63.....one at a time. Then I could use the $450 in Target gift cards just given to me to get the remaining $350 in cards I need with $134 left over for grocery money after the trip!

I was hoping this special added ten dollar bonus would start before my extra 5% pharmacy rewards coupon expires...any idea when that special will start ?!!

To answer your questions:

1) I can't say for sure on the Pharmacy rewards because I have never used that, but yes - you buy a $50 gift card, use a coupon that says "$10 gift card with every $50 purchase," get your gift card, use the gift card from your last transaction which brings the price down to $40 and then use your Red Card which brings the price down another $2 - paying $38 for a $50 gift card :thumbsup2 I guess you could save up all your $10 cards and use them to get free cards, but I always just roll those gift cards immediately to pay less per card up front.

2) Now the bad news - historically, this coupon has been offered for the first 2 weekends in December (so December 6-8 and 13-15). Not before Thanksgiving. Anything can happen, but I seriously doubt it will be offered any earlier - the coupon is intended to get people to do their Christmas shopping at Target.

And one more point:

The coupon is generally "1 coupon per transaction per guest". It is usually an internet coupon from the Target website and you can print it twice from any computer. In order to "roll" the deal several times, you will need multiple computers and will need to check out once per coupon. Some stores will permit you to get in line and do multiple transactions at the register. Others will require you to get back in line for each transaction. And other stores will actually require you to leave and come back to make another transaction. YMMV.

The coupon also has a short lifespan. Usually, it's about a week.

Target has offered this deal 2-3 times during the month of December in the past couple of years.
