Just a heads up. If you February peeps are renting with Dollar, you might want to try running your ressie again.

I've been checking every week since I booked with zero luck. Just now I went in there and viola! $100 cheaper!!! I rebooked using the same corporate code oi1054.

WooHoo!!!

It does look like prices have been dropping over the past few days for rentals that begin next week.

I re-checked for my dates (02/18-03/01) and found that using OI1054 lowered my cost but also checked without using a code. Without a code a few City Specials come up and for my dates and size of vehicle I got a slightly lower price (about $20) than using OI1054.

So I'm at about a third of the cost of the rental that I had originally made back in November for a "savings" of just over $200 on my 11 day rental (about $18/day).

Not all vehicle sizes are available at City Specials discounts and different pricing and deals can be in effect for different dates but it's worth checking pricing in multiple ways.

Checked again this morning and it's down another $65! $165 lower than the original booking!!! Very happy about this!!!

Yes. That's why it pays off to keep checking those car rental prices!

To highlight the nature of price changes, here's this old traveler's experience for a Feb 18-Mar 1, 12-day rental...

Originally reserved through Dollar on Nov 20th using Orange County convention center code OI1054 for a mid-sized car at $640.10 with all taxes and fees.

Pricing stayed the same for a month and a half until,

Jan 11th using same code, size vehicle, price dropped to $566.58.
Feb 3rd, changed code to BJs Wholesale code at $483.65.
Feb 9th, changed code to use City Special at $436.33.
Feb 10th (10:20 am) modifying reservation changed price to $410.31.
Feb 10th (8:30 pm) modifying reservation changed price to $388.77.
Feb 11th modifying reservation changed price to $350.35.

So, in two days alone it has dropped about $86 or about 20% and about $300 - 45% - since my original reservation price.

I'll be back to see how much more I can save during the next week.

For our 11 day rental with a Full-Size using oi1054 code:

Original booking $522 including all taxes and fees
Newest boooking $357 including all taxes and fees

Since I haven't changed codes, dates, or times, I have just rebooked with the new price then cancelled the previous reservation. Have 5 more days to keep checking LOL!

Feels good to save a little money where you can!

Try the same size car at the City Special price (promo code 875) for your dates. You'll get it down almost another $16 to $341.44.

With Thrifty using Orlando Magic Code 004m001010 the total for midsize is $301.18 and it includes a free additional driver which normally runs $10/day extra.

OMG! Just checked again. I just saved another $96! Total with all taxes and fees for 11 days: 260.78!!!

Thanks, webworm, for pointing that out.

I think that I'm going to stay with the Dollar half of the Dollar/Thrifty company because of Dollar Express.

Like chrisn, I've also seen my reservation go down since I last posted. In fact it's dropped by about another $100 in the last two days.
My 12-day midsized car reservation went down by $63 from Thursday to Friday morning and by another $37 from Friday to Saturday (the 13th). The base price is now $170.95 and the grand total is now $250.89 (just under $21 a day).
