Just returned from our first trip home to SSR

We love SSR and can't wait to get back. We are going to have dinner at the Turf Club one night, and glad to hear you enjoyed it! We are staying at OKW next week as we needed a 2 Bedroom because we have family coming down. Next trip is definitely back to SSR - I love it!

and have a few thoughts to share...

My wife and I had a studio in the Grandstand area of the resort. We were in one of the buildings accross the parking lot from the Back Stretch pool. A little inconvienent but we got used to it. Our balcony overlooked the golf course and afforded us a view of the workers constucting the Tree House Villas. This was cool, I took some pictures and I'll try to put them up later.

The room was perfectly clean and ready for us. I've read many complaints regarding Mousekeeping in general at DVC resorts but our experiance was top notch cleaning service!

The Artist Pallette offered good food that seemed more healthy than the typical Disney offerings. Flat bread pizza, salads, veggie wraps etc. were very good.

We ate at The Turf Club for one of our table service meals and were very impressed. The best food item we had was the Ceasar Salad. They cut a head of Romane lettace in half lightly grilled it to give it a smoky flavor then refridgerated it. The ceasar dressing was out of this world garlicly with chunks of cheese, delicious! We both got the NY stip steak mine was a little fatty but my wife's was perfect. Would definitly go back again.

The cast at check in and through out our stay was very freindly and helpful, really made us feel welcome.

We were also surprized at the amount of DVC merchandise availible at the store. Aside from the travel mugs, licence plates, window decals etc. they had SSR specific tee shirts for men and women, hooded sweat shirts, bathrobes, pullover wind breakers etc. Perhaps Disney is listening and expanding the DVC merchandise selection.

Some things that disappointed us:

Everything closed at 11:00. Being adults with no kids on this trip it would have been nice to get a few more drinks from the bar next to the Turf Club after 11:00. Also it would be nice if they had some sort of entertainment a piano player, comedian or something JMHO.

Bus service was outstanding. Never more than a 10 minute wait. After reading alot of negative trip reports about SSR we were very impressed and satisfied with our stay. Can't wait to go back in April and try out a 1 bedroom!

I'm getting so excited and now I can almost taste the caesar salad after reading these posts (even though I've never had it at the turf club). I've had it at Olivia's Cafe at OKW and thought it was fantastic. So, I'm excited to see how it compares to turf club. It's our first trip to SSR and first trip as DVC owners (8 days to go!) I can't wait!

Glad to hear you had a great trip! Wait until you get that 1BR! I cannot live without my jacuzzi tub now! I went home for the first time in Aug and it was wonderful with great bus service! Heading home again in 58 days and can't wait!

Thank you for the pleasant trip report! We agree with you totally on all your points - good bus service, healthy food options, cleanliness.

We too stayed in Grandstand this year and loved it. The counter service food at SSR's AP really impressed us with their healthy choices (which are very important to us and hard to find in general at WDW resorts) - and I think that was one of the reasons we ended up adding on again at SSR this year. That and 4 lovely pools - the best of which was Grandstand's.

I wanted to chime in on the great food at AP and Turf Club. I stayed at BCV last week for food and wine fest. I was solo.

I went over to SSR to view the BLT models and stopped in AP. It was early but I saw the Dinner special was the Chicken Penne Alfredo! We had this in June and it was awesome. So I went shopping at the outlet and went back to SSR for dinner around 8pm.

I would never go back to any resort to eat their counter service, but I went back to SSR and I did not have a car! They don't serve the pasta everyday and I did not want to miss it this trip, so I had dinner for $10 that night and the bus driver gave me a ride back to BCV!

I thought it funny that here I was staying at one of the most coveted DVC resorts at the most coveted time (with concierge access) and I was hanging out at SSR! I really do miss it when we are not staying there. Everyone is so at ease and having a great time, it is a great environment.

Your report and all the wonderful comments has made me home sick. So glad you had a great stay. We stayed in the Grandstand section with a view of the pool. We loved this area. I ran back and forth to the carriage house. We were so close to it. It was easy to walk to HRS pool (kids favorite) and community center and also to the DTD boat dock. We will request the building we were in again. The location was perfect!
