We just returned from an 8 night stay at CBR...it was wonderful! We were rather nervous about our first stay at a moderate. Our last stays were Cont, WL, Poly, and Poly GVC. How would we like a moderate...everyone's least fav moderate so it seems from the various polls on this site. Well, we loved the whole place! Even things others complain about, we loved!

We did heed the advice and stay in a preferred building. We were put in Matinique 2505 and 2506 (2 parents, 4 kids, and 1 grandma). This was an ideal location...pretty garden view, very peaceful, a short pleasant walk to all amenities. Our only disappoinment was that our rooms were not connecting. I know this is only a request, but at check in we were told rooms connected, so to arrive at the room and find no connection was a bit of adisappointment, but one we quickly got over.

The rooms were clean and lovely. The bathroom set up was very nice with the two sinks and the large getting ready area, and this room had plenty of storage. Older 3 kids wanted to bunk with grandma, but I wanted all stuff with us so I could stay organized. I managed to store clothing and stuff for mom, dad, 3 kids, and an infant in that room with no problem! A pack 'n play arrived in a timely fashion to our room and it was clean and nice. I brought my own sheet, but I had no qualms placing my infant in the crib.

We took great advantage of the refillable mugs and we enjoyed our trips to Old Port Royal. We also ate several meals (breakfasts, lunches, and snacks) at the food court and had not a complaint...very nice set up, and a real improvement over this type of food service offered at any of the deluxes we have visited. I had read that some found getting drinks for a trip to the pool to be unpleasant, but we did not have this problem.

The pool was a pleasant surprise. I expected after 2 trips to the poly that my kids would dislike the CBR pool, but they really enjoyed it! We never found it overly crowded and we were always able to get chairs and in the shade for the baby when we needed it. My two boys (8 and 9) enjoyed using the free pool table two of our nights there, and my dd 5 loved the big pool and slide. The hot tub was small, but still more than is offered at the Poly so we were glad to have it! I never had a problem getting spot when I wanted to.

We walked the whole circle around the lake 2 evenings and we just found the resort to be gorgeous. My kids also liked the quiet pools and the play areas and beaches. Oh, and feeding the turtles, fish, and ducks at the bridge was a surprise treat.

We rented a van and drove to MGM, Epcot, AK, and both water parks...they were each like a 5 minute drive and very easy. We did use Disney buses for all of out trips to MK and that was fine. We made our 8:05 AM CRT reservation easily and it seemed each time we left the park we walked up to a bus. Martinque was always the first bus picked up and dropped off for our trips to MK, so that worked really well for us as well. We met really nice people everywhere at the resort...pool, foodcourt, buses.

Oh, and when we reached our $1000 credit card limit, all it took was a phone call from us to authorize that charge and begin anew...a trip to the Custum House was not necessary. We were all amazed at how much we enjoyed this resort! We did a Wishes Cruise one night and as we went past the Poly, we all said we were very happy to be at CBR. I think I mentioned everything, but I would be happy to answer any question I can :-)

Glad to hear you had a great time at CBR. Could you do me a favor and copy and paste your review into the CBR FAQ II thread listed below? That way others will be able to recent trip reports. Thank you.

We loved CBR and I loved the storage space. Out of all the resorts we've stayed this was the only one that we could completely unpack at. Your post confirms my belief that we should stick to staying at the Mods.

Glad you had such a great trip.

Yes, thank you for the review.

We are going in Oct, staying at POR. Then, last week, our neighbors decided to go with us, but POR was booked, so they ended up at CBR. I knew nothing about CBR, and was worried they may not like it. While you don't hear much about CBR, it sounds as if it has a following of faithful visitors, so it must be okay. Now I am not so worried that they will be disappointed on their first trip to WDW.

Thanks,
Andy

Thanks for your review! We are going to CBR next year for the 1st time and we are really looking forward to it! :flower:

Queen Be...
Loved to hear about your stay! In the past we have stayed at the Contemporary and the Polynesian, so I was a bit apprehensive about staying at my first Moderate...CBR. We are planning on staying at the CBR for this upcoming Christmas, so I am very happy to read your positive opinions. We also decided to pay a little extra for a Preferred Room location.
Anything else I should know????? Any room I should request???
Thanks!!!

This is great too hear! We are staying at CBR in Sep. and was curious to know if anyone really enjoyed the resort, and pool area's.

:cool1:

Were you able to see the fireworks from this resort?

Thank you for sharing your positive opinion of CBR! We are booked at CBR the last week of September and I was somewhat concerned by some of the posts about the resort. Your post has eased my fears and I am truly excited now about our visit to CBR!!!! :cool1:  :Pinkbounc

Safetymom, I went ahead and pasted the post on the FAQ thread. Thanks for maintaining these threads and for answering several questions I had priror to our trip!

As for room requests, we had two strollers so we were glad to be on the first floor since there are no elevators. The corner rooms with two windows seemed nice.

Fireworks, yep, we saw them from the Martinique beach...Epcot at 9 am. You also could hear fireworks from MGM on the clear nights, but I do not believe you could see them.

Oh, and we had twoel animals each day...how could I forget that?? LOL The kids were not overly impressed by those (they were a first for us), but dh and I thought they were pretty nifty!

Thanks for your very positive post about CBR. I am staying there the last week of August. The only other resort I have stayed at is POR. I was starting to get a little tired reading all the negative posts about CBR, so yours was a "breath of fresh air".

I am pretty easy to please, so unless the room is horrible, I can't imagine being dissatisfied. I also don't care about the resort being spread out. That sort of appeals to me.

Glad to hear you had such a great trip. I only want to hear good things about CBR from now on!

Now I am REALLY excited!! that's where we will be in just a couple of days!! Thanks for the tip on fireworks at the beach... that will be a nice treat for the days we are just "hanging" around!

Another emphatic YES vote for CBR. I stayed there in 1990 and again last month. Nothing not to like about it.

Thanks for your great post Queen Bee! We are less that three weeks away from a CBR Disney Vacation. You have boosted our already high anticipation level. :Pinkbounc  :cool1:

We are staying at CBR in December and are really looking forward to it. The tropical theme is what attracted me to it.... I can't wait!

Glad to hear you liked it. I can't wait to stay in Dec. I know that there are many people that don't like it, but I thought it sounded like a fun place with the kids. It makes me even more excited when I read positive posts about it!!

Add me to the list of December CBR Dis'er. :)

I also booked a preferred room. I want to know what size is the coffee pot in the room? Is it a regular sized one, or one that only holds 2 cups? And are refridgerators in the room, or do you have to request one?

Mary

I'm glad you had such a great time! We loved our stay at CBR and I'm always surprised that it has such a bad reputation on the boards.
