Just returned from 10 days at the Poly - just not worth it!

When we got the 45% off the GV room was a little under $200 per night. there was no seperate weekend rate. they hadn't instituted that with the mods or deluxe yet.
We loved The Poly, but just don't think the pricing is very realistic.

Under $200 a night would be amazing!!!! However, I look at it this way...DH and I are not extravagant people. Rarely do we go all out (even in cases when we are able to) for ANYTHING. We have a nice house (not McMansion)...and did I mention no double sinks, and in fact all 4 of us are forced to split 1.5 bathrooms. :scared1: (note sarcasm), we drive newer cars (a nissan altima and honda pilot - NOT a MERCEDES or LEXUS)...the point is, we ALWAYS live w/in our means...even on all of our previous Disney trips...staying mostly at values for 6 or 7 nights (except for CBR one time). We even stayed at values for our Disneymoon!!! This 40% discount gives us the opportunity to try something that we normally wouldn't opt to pay for, because we are...well...cheap! :cutie: It's exciting to us and the value is truly in the experience for us. We were talking about it last night, and I said to DH "but the Poly doesn't have double sinks" he said "so". I said but the monorail doesn't operate during EMH, he said "so we take the bus" (we are very used to Disney busses). What we are paying for is the experience, and doing something special for a few special occasions. We are paying for the location (more importantly during the day) since our touring plans this time involve going to park early, and coming back to the Poly for swimming until nighttime when we'll hit the parks again (when its not so darn HOT). We get to try CL at AKL, even for just 2 nights, and to our family its a special experience. That's where the value lies, but...the full rack rate prices are crazy!!!! We would NEVER pay that for ANY hotel!!! I guess my point is, one person cannot say whether an experience is worth it or not for everyone, because not everyone has cookie cutter needs. The OP is entitled to his/her opinion, but I am really looking forward to experiencing it myself and forming my own opinion about it!!! :) AND, we are only paying the price of a moderate during peak season...and that's ok with me!

I have to agree. We tried the Poly after years of wanting to stay there. We had a wonderful convention rate of $149 and couldn't pass it up. The resort was beautiful and we did enjoy our stay, but we would not go back at the current prices, even with a 40% discount. We'll stick to CSR or another moderate, but we're really glad we tried it. :)

I disagree that a deluxe room and a moderate room is the same. #1, the deluxe rooms can easily fit two queen beds in the room and still have lots of room left over. Plus those couches will fold out for two smaller people. #2, the king bed rooms that we had this past trip at POR were much smaller than the two doubles room that we had last year. I don't know how in the world they think that they're going to fit two queens in those rooms. #3, the bathrooms at the deluxe are a little more modern and nicer. Our bathroom at POR looked very dated and had a little bit of a smell.

As a PP said, the bathrooms at POR are being renovated along with the rest of the room. We just stayed in a renovated POR room last week of September and it was nice. I prefer the double vanity outside of the bathroom. I'm not sure if any deluxe resorts have this but I know OP said they did not have this in their Poly room.

As a PP also said, the POR King rooms are the same size as the 2 Queen rooms. Our room had a King and there was ample room on either side of the bed. We laid both of our suitcases down side by side between the nightstand and the wall next to the door and there was still room. But Poly rooms are definitely bigger square footage wise, if that is a concern.

I was actually referring to the transportation at the Poly when we're there at a month. And, POR has lots of bumps IMHO. A 30 minute wait for a bus back from DTD? A 30-45 minute wait for a bus back from TL? A 45 minute wait at midday for a bus to MK? We also had some issues with check-in the last time at POR (we paid for a king bed and she wanted to argue with me until I pulled out my reservation and payment confirmation and then still wanted to give me a double). I'm just giving them a break as I'm sure we'll be back. They may say their the same size but I don't see how because our room was wider and longer at Poly and CR compared to POR. :confused3

Sorry you had all the bus issues. I have to agree we had bus issues too, but not as severe as what you described. The bus back from TL was the worst - a good 30 min wait. I wonder if bus service between the Port Orleans resort and DTD is maybe limited since they offer the boat? Just speculation.

I tend to agree with Mousemommy1 .We have all our favorite memories from the Poly and honestly our kids love to go back everytime they are 19 and 22!But the prices are skyrocketing and this might be our last trip staying there. .This will be our 8th visit and never thought I'd have to pay 425 a night ! :rolleyes1 I do love the place and it feels like we are home there:cloud9: Ahh can't wait till January!

That's what makes the world go 'round. Thankfully Disney has many different resorts to choose from to suit everyone's taste and price range.

We LOVE Poly, and will continue to stay there for many years to come. Do we like the price? Not really, but for us, it's worth it. So with all due respect, your lack of love for my fav might just make it a little easier for me to get that room I want, in that longhouse I want, with that view I want, with that discount I want! If everyone loved Poly, the rest of us Poly lovers would have a much harder time getting a ressie! :goodvibes

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. :thumbsup2

Thanks to people like the OP, who don't care for the Poly, my family and I just stayed there for $267/night!

It was worth every penny and then some!

I found out this trip that the rooms don't matter to me. What matters to me is the CS food. We were moved from Pop to BC and I was not happy with the food choices at BC for CS. BC actually had better CS food than Boardwalk and YC.

I could care less that the room had a double sink, larger room, a patio (which I never used or even opened as it was right by the DSA), a great swimming pool, etc. Maybe if there were more than one adult and one child, it might have made a difference.

I did love that the rooms were inside so I wasn't exposed to smokers trying to get to and from my room. Maybe most of the people that stay at the BC just don't smoke. I never had any problems with smokers after being moved from Pop.

We have always stayed deluxe with a 40% discount. I feel its worth it. Disney does not keep up the rooms and hallways the way it should, but other than that I have never been disappointed in any of our stays. Location is very important to us. I hate the buses and I hate driving I try to avoid both as much as possible.

I think it goes without saying that for some people, the $$ is worth it. I don't mind the buses, don't mind having a door that opens outside, and don't care about double sinks or park views or anything like that, so value means something different to me.

We stayed at the Grand Californian at Disneyland (California Adventure) one Christmas. It is similar to the Wilderness Lodge. We were "upgraded" to a theme park view, but that meant our room didn't have bunk beds or a day bed, so my son got stuck on a roll away or the floor. lol. He didn't think a lot about our upgrade. It was a beautiful hotel and we enjoyed it, but got a great discount on it to begin with. We loved the park entrance specifically for hotel guests, and that really made the money worth it at the time.

I have friends that stay at the Poly all the time and they love it and have never had a complaint.

I never stay at the deluxes anymore except for DVC resorts on points.

You just do not get a whole lot more for the price you are paying to go deluxe. If I have to pay OOP for a Disney resort I usually choose Pop Century.

The monorail will now stop running an hour after official park closing time. There are buses available back to the MK resorts after that.

Is this just a temporary suspension of service? Or permanent?

OP, sorry your trip was not so magical. I'll have to agree that the Poly is not worth it. We had an awesome pin and booked two weeks there. We made it four nights before requesting a resort switch. Our room was dirty and run-down. There were other issues, but that was the biggest thing. We are happy to have that opportunity because it is the Poly, but we didn't enjoy our stay.
