Hi

Just rented some points from a Great guy here on the DIS. Didn't want to bother him with too many of my questions.

We want to do the daily trash & towel service, so my question is: When do we ask for that service? At check in ? Also, do you leave a tip for that person ? And approximately how much?

And the big question: We will be in a 1 BR on our first night, then moving into a studio for the rest of our stay. Will we be without a room for part of that day? It's no problem , we'd just like to plan for it.

Thanks so much in advance!!

You can probably request T&T on check in.

Here's a link to a poll that was recently taken regarding tipping.

Checkout is at 11:00am check in is at 4:00, but I believe Disney will move your bags, so I would just pack my bags, call bell services, leave for a park for the day and then check back in when I returned from the park.

Also, I can't speak from experience but, from what I hear from my friends on this board, you might have a tough time staying in that studio after you've spent a night in that one bedroom!

Have a great time!

I wouldn't hesitate to e-mail the person you are renting from & ask questions. The person we rented from on the boards was more than happy to help us with any questions we had.

Also, one thing they told us was that when we checked in we should reiterate the fact that we were "guests" of the owner & not renters. This way he said we could take advantage of all DVC priveleges. We were so thankful that he told us that.

We were able to use valet parking services at other resorts & one night we rented Swiss Family Robinson at OKW & did not have to pay a fee for it.

We didn't abuse any priveleges, but it was nice to know we could use them if we needed/wanted to. :)

You mention you would like trash and towel everyday. I just wanted to make sure you knew that they will not come in and clean OR make your beds etc., when you have trash and towel service. They will basically just take out the trash and leave fresh towels.

You can get fresh towels for $6.00. Taking out the trash isn't a big deal.

FYI - we did not get trash & towel service daily & I was "worried" about not getting fresh towels daily and getting rid of the trash. Everything worked out fine & it was really not necessary anyway. Trash recepticles are conveniently located.

We either hung our towels to dry, washed them a few times, & were even told we could take some from the pool if we needed them. (although taking them from the pool is a hotly debated topic:eek:)

Anyway, for $40 a day (I thought that's what they told us - maybe it's less) I would forgo the trash & tidy & just get the fresh towels if needed.

You can get a set of towels for $6....this is 4 handtowels, bathtowels, washcloths and a bath mat.

Trash & Towel is fresh towels and removal of Trash -- $10 per day

Full cleanings are based on the size of the unit: $25 for a studio; $30 for a 1 bedroom; $40 for a 2 bedroom; $60 for a GV.

Renters are not suppose to receive Member priviledges. This is typical of the problem some DVC members have about E-Bay renters stating in their ads that a point renter will be their 'Guest'.

So just FYI, if you say you are 'guests' then that's simply telling a lie to get member priviledges. Actual members have invested anywhere from $12,000 to $20,000 or more and can extend benefits to their family members, and their friends who are truly guests of the member.

You are definetly going to have to move. A studio is either a designated studio or the lockoff of a 2 BR. It iwll make more sense once you have seen both but studio/1 BR isn't a combo. To bad it isn't the other way around, that you grow space by the end:D

Have a great trip!

Bill, I agree with you as presented. However, DVC doesn't care. If you tell them it's a rental, the card still says member. If the card says member, they can and do get the benefits. I don't begrudge that, particularly since I can't think of a single discount that would apply that would actually cost the members more money if used.

I don't feel I was lieing, as I was simply doing what the member told me to do. Actually, I feel I was a guest of the member. Even though I paid for his points, I feel he was kind enough to let me buy them at a lower rate than I would have had to pay had I gotten a reservation through Disney.

If I felt I was lieing & trying to get something for free so the cost would be passed on to members I would never post that information.

PamOKW - We rented a 2BR, so I know where I got that $40 figure from - but obviously it was for a day's housekeeping, not trash & tidy. Thanks for the clarification. :)

MELSMICE, I'm sure Bill's beef would be with the person that told you that. When I rent points I always tell them they may or may not get the discounts but that I will be honest with DVC about it being a rental and cannot guarantee any of the member discounts. After that, it's up to DVC and as I noted above, they have tended not to care.
